I know if the deal were 100% dead we would have heard, but I gave up hope months ago.  My only hope now is that some day SCoRE will anonymously drop the "home version" out there as a torrent.  The ability to play single player on a standalone was something we should have had from the beginning.  I would cheerfully drop a couple thousand for that.

I apologize for being negative, but that is how I feel about it.  And don't get me wrong, if the game reappears I will sign up and play enthusiastically.  I will promote it and invite friends.  But I will never trust it to be there tomorrow ever again.  The only way I would trust it to be there is if I had the software in my possession and were running my own servers.

Truly, this is a test for the faithful.  I plan to hang as long as it takes to hear something, one way or the other, but it ain't easy.

As always, I look at it as a "well, we're no worse off than we ever were" scenario, besides the "it's also been nice to have the biggest tiny shred of hope we've had since the closing" situation.   :D

I'll admit that while I'm not 100% sure one way or another what's happening, it seems to be getting clearer that A.) NCSoft could care less and B.) TFHM may be afraid to say out loud with any sort of finality that they've been given the brush off when they can just sort of pretend that the endless silence is merely a very long pause in the negotiations.   ;)

I dunno.  It's been fun hoping though, and as we can't do anything about the situation either way, we'll just have to wait it out even longer.  I signed up for Codewalker's "ZOMG something finally really truly happened" email list, so even if I don't stop by quite so persistently here looking for news, there's still that in case something big ever does happen.

I would hope SCoRE lets everybody here know at least via PMs and such if they get to the playable client stage as well.

Go ahead and lose faith. Walk away. When the game comes back you'll be even happier and not driven crazy by staring at the calendar.

As for now, let's socialize with the crazy bastards that make up our community :3

I bought myself a PS4 for Bloodborne, its a hell of a game with great atmosphere. Kept me from thinking about CoH :)
But if you ask me if I think CoH will come back, then my answer is NO. But I am still checking this forum daily for any news though.

As an individual I could be far far worse of than not getting my fav. game back.

Me too. It is taking way to long now. getting concerned.

I was getting concerned a few weeks back but I remembered that they definitely would have to reconfigure the server, that includes the update server and the shop server. this could take a lot of work, money and time.

And that is assuming that is all that needs to be done. Maybe there was some profit breaking glitch/bug?, maybe all those bugs the paragon staff said were in the game at it's core level were the cause. If that's the case NCSoft might have said "ok, we'll tell you what we told paragon, if you want the game back and running, we'll sell it for a nominal price cause we aren't bad and actually want to see the game running, the catch? we need to set-up a transition company to fix all the server bugs and that will need to be paid for and will take a long time."

ok, there was a profit breaking glitch/bug, several actually that we/I know of here (possibly more than I know of). they may have been caused by something at the core level of the code (hence why they weren't being fixed and need to be for a self-run server). As far as I remember they were;

1: the permanent VIP bug, you buy VIP once and for some reason the timer on the server-side keeps refilling itself to 30 days on a per tick basis. (kinda like the holiday jet-pack glitch, that too kept refilling to 30 days on a per tick basis, I had one for 3 months using it all the time lol, my character had perma fly with the holiday jetpack).

With the jetpack they caught it and eventually reset it and it ran out, but something like a permanent VIP situation might not be caught without the user saying something, and we all know half the time we are too busy having fun and working to pay attention to weather we paid for that month or not.

2: The store points glitch (offshoot of the Permanent VIP glitch) so you get permanent vip, and every month you get more store points, but, store points are awarded in relation to the day that you purchased the VIP subscription, so if the server is constantly renewing your subscription on a per tick basis then once a day you will receive a whole month's store points.

these are 2 glitches I encountered personally. And I'm not that lucky, so if I observed this, I'm sure others did too, lots of others.

lastly, I'm certain the bugs /WILL/ be a necessary part of the negotiations for these reasons;

1: a game 5 years old having serious game breaking bugs like it's still in beta? yeah, no.

2: For the game to be left in stand-alone mode without staff for the majority of the year, means no updates, no Game Mods and with no GMs means there can't be a possibility to get stuck in walls or any of the other known glitches like the team leader glitch ETC.. this also means they might seal up that spot players have been using to get into the matrix zone, or they might remove the matrix zone completely.

3: stand-alone means that the server automatically cycles the holiday events and their updates without fail and without human input. Can't have bugs cause you might come to work one day a year later and find 7 months of messages from players complaining that it's been the Christmas event all year and all other events were skipped, or that there's a million lord frosts in atlas park and it's overloading peoples computers if they visit atlas.

It'll need to be bug free, and code will have to be added to cycle the seasonal content.

I forget how long the paragon crew said that would take, but obviously it was too long and too much effort for them to consider it while the game was live. I think I remember someone saying they'd have to rebuild the whole game just about.

So please be patient, and keep your hopes up, they aren't taking a long time because of negotiation problems (or we would have heard something), I suspect they are hard at work patching bugs and testing it.

Person 1: "hey, [president of NCSoft] we need you in the board room"
president of NCsoft: "can't now, busy testing CoX"
Person 1: "you can 'Test' that later, right now we need to go over the problems with guildwars and guildwars 2's declining fan base"
president: "just 5 more minutes! sheesh! we've almost got Reichsman down and there's no pause button!"
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

welcome to the speed of business, if you want to see something slower we can witness the speed of government.

Had a bit of a system shock when I moved from a dot-com startup to a state government job.  First meeting at the new place:

Boss - "how long until you could get this project up and running?"
Me - "could probably have it going by EoB Friday, maybe late Thursday with some midnight oil"
Boss - "... how about you give us a status report in three months"

Things aren't quite that glacial these days but back then it was a jarring experience.  A very slow-motion jarring experience, I guess the pitch drop experiment is momentarily exciting when the event finally occurs.

Every now and then I have a dream about the game, every now and then I am disappointed about the status of CoH. In my opinion though the people who were connected to the devs back in the day are still kicking around, except a couple. That's really all they would need to get the game back up as well, a former dev who started with the game to say "This is what's causing x problem." Who knows what will happen though, i was slightly excited at first but that has faded.

I too bought a ps4 and can't get enough Bloodborne/DarkSouls 2:SotFS. There's loads of games coming out for the new consoles this year so I'm not exactly worried either way. However that CoH gap is having a hard time closing, and right now this community is like an old dog. Either take us out back and put us out of our misery, or throw us a bone and let us ride it out till the very end.

Constantly loading up Icon and sitting there with my main characters empty shell feeling exactly like an empty shell myself.
There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of the amazing friends I made playing CoX and the attachment I had with not only my characters but all my acquaintances and friends characters too. Wow what a game. Loved it dearly. You really don't know what you have till its gone. Despite these rather heavy feelings of grief and longing, there's always a small part of me that tells me we will all play it again. Hope.
