Out of curiosity I did just check Nate Downes' profile here, and he hasn't even logged onto the Titan network in 3 1/2 months, since December 31, 2014.  I would think that if things were moving along, he'd be at least keeping an eye on these forums and morale, if nothing else but to gauge how many potential paying customers he'd have for launch at least.

Often the red names on the original game forums would not log into the forums for months at a time.  Just because you're working on it, doesn't mean you want to read everyone else's opinion on what you're working on every single day.  In fact, its usually the reverse.

This game should be the LAST thing on Nate Downes mind since he should be focused on City of Titans.

Personally, I'm more interested in getting CoH back.

Well you know what they say about opinions ;)
Thankfully Nate does not agree with yours.

Me too.

At this point, while it is possible that negotiations are still ongoing, it is also possible that for all we know the ink is drying on the contracts while they work to get the servers and game back up and running.  Then of course comes things like the AE, the Market, making sure holiday events can be cycled properly, making sure all special events like Nemeiss or Rikti invasions are operational, the Paragon store and all super packs and costume/emote sets are back and available, the character creator is working as it should be,  global chat with all its features is working, that channels can be created, and so on.

They aren't going to tell us either way due to NDA's and also IF, and I do stress IF my scenario above of them working to get the game back online is true and they did release that information, they would likely be under siege of posts and PM's begging for people to beta test, requesting status updates, demanding to know the relaunch date, etc etc etc etc etc.

Speaking of things being gone, I am now going to bed.  I have to sleep so I can go to work on my birthday, which is also tax day in the U.S.  :(  Yuck all around.

Have you ever thought of how beneficial licensing the IP could be to City of Titans? It means you could make reference to City of Heroes without issues..

It also means you wont have an issue if you call something in a Superhero game.. A Scrapper, Stalker or Brute. It also means you wont have an issue if you call a powerset Illusion Control.. or Energy Melee..

SO there is some benefit to CoT being able to get access to the IP if they chose to do it.

I don't think they'd need to license the IP just to use AT names.  "Scrapper" and "Mastermind" are not CoH-specific words, just as the words "Warrior" and "Rogue" weren't invented for WoW.  (In fact, Marvel Avengers Alliance has classes specifically called Scrapper and Blaster, and they're about what you'd imagine from CoH)

Actually, it kinda annoys me that CoT and VO are trying to reinvent the wheel as far as AT names go, rather than using straightforward and familiar ones.  A WoW clone that called its Warrior class "Armored Weaponeer" or its Mage class "Magical Utilizer" rather than simply "Warrior" and "Mage" would bug me the same way.

Scrapper and mastermind were not created as words for CoX in specific, but when combined together they become a unique set, it's this concept of a unique set that NCSoft owns, so if someone makes a game with : tanker, blaster, controller, dominator, mastermind, scrapper, defender, stalker, brute ETC. then they would have to change the kinda thing the archetypes do natively in order to avoid lawsuit. alone they are just words, together they are an intellectual property.

just like the parts of an iPhone alone are just parts or bits of metal, plastic, and silicon ETC. But together they are an iphone.
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

I'm more concerned with the progress of APR, which is totally dependent on gaining the IP, rather than CoT.  CoT can progress with or without  the IP.

From what I'm seeing so far,  CoT is aiming to go in a totally different direction than CoH, which is their prerogative, but I'd rather just have a straight port of CoH with better graphics.

I'm with you 100% on that score!  What I want, is to play CoX, and, if it comes in a new new wrapper, so be it!  Geaux APR!! ;D

Just my $1.98 (inflation you know).

I'm new to these forums so I suppose I don't know if there are specific kinds of rules to follow, but seriously, is there a reason why my post got deleted?

Are you sure it originally posted and that something didn't go wrong?  Did you ever see the post in this thread, or did you just come back hours later or something and find it wasn't here?

Probably you forgot to hit post and it never got deleted. Looking at how many post you have, you only have two (both on this page). Of course, it may be if your post did get deleted, it would subtract that last post. I don't know how the forum actually works in post counts.

That makes no sense to me, unless NCSoft specifically trademarked those words for that purpose (which, from the lack of a "™" after every class name, doesn't appear to be what they did).  It's like saying, if I were to make a fantasy game, I couldn't call a class a Mage, call its resource Mana, and have it cast fire and ice spells, because WoW already has a Mage class with Mana points and fire and ice spells.

Why does this class name limitation only apply to CoH?  (Especially since, as I said, another superhero game already has Scrapper and Blaster classes, which are pretty much the same in concept as CoH Scrapper and Blaster classes)

sometimes whole groups of related posts are deleted if some of them are off-topic or potentially inflammatory. Otherwise, possibly the spaghetti monster.
