This, this, and this. I was talking to someone from CO on a chat channel the other night - nothing confrontational or argumentative, just idle chat - and they said that one of the reasons why they preferred CO over COH was because in CO, if they wanted to create a gun-slinging blaster type WITH sorcery/magic attacks WITH a damage-deadling fire sword, they could do that; but in COH, such character ideas/concepts weren't all that easily accessible. Lmfao. My feelings towards this opinion actually very much mirrored my feeling towards CO in general...very confused by a lot of things that are in theory SUPPOSED to be good things, but just come off as random and difficult. But, granted, each player has a right to like or not like certain things about a game. So to each his own! C'est la vie.

YEah, alot of people mistake the freedom to make a mary sue with real freedom, although admittedly npc's treat you like a sue(even the enemies being weak gives me that feeling from time to time).  You'll have so many random characters running around.  But just about everything is kind of random and incompleted.  But see that was due to a lack of any scope that CoX had.  I often felt I could make anything in CoX alot more-so than in CO cause I could easily take a powerset or two that could reflect more than one thing, while CO sometimes just tells you "Here, take what you want, we'll also let you get a power as the plot demands to every time, afterall, we want you to feel special and super powerful.  Remember you should never be losing, your always winner!".
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

We cant discuss CoX in the CoX chat channel? Harsh :p That's the only place I have seen it mentioned so far, its not like its being discussed in Zone chat. maybe it is and Im not seeing it.

This happened in a SG global chat channel that I had one of my alts in (not the regular SG channel, but a global chat channel that all of the SG members were invited to). It wasn't via broadcast in Millenium or anything, nor was it in the COH chat channel.

But still. Yikes.
Viva la Virtue!

The CoX channel is safe, it was made for that.  But zone?  Trolls will home in on you with nuclear missiles.

I was in a nice bit of nostalgia walking down memory lane in /CoX this evening.

Some of us chose CO over CoH while it CoH was still going strong, and are still very proud of the game we have. I hope the rest of you find peace somehow, whether your game comes back or not. I played CoH for many years. I started in Virtue and got to know some great people, but I saw a superior choice in my eyes and took the chance. I don't regret a single bit of it, and am very excited about where the game is going.

One of my CO characters is Brass Man, a steampunk Iron Man. In civilian life, he's Professor Artemus Stark, Tony's great-great-great-great grandfather. It's won a few costume-contest prizes.
Nice!

I would guess they used some kind of converter that took the steam power and changed into electricity since Tesla best work was with electrical energy. Maybe heating water until it is plasma hot, bursting the weak atomic forces and freeing up huge amounts of energy, not unlike a small fission reactor to power the suit.

Perhaps he even helped improve it after the armistice. He lived until 1943 so he was around for sometime after 1917. Of course, he wasn't quite right in some ways, but a genius none the less.
Actually the premise was that it was a secret project so he never discussed it with others after it was mothballed. Also as far as the tech goes the primary power source was inspired by a sort of laminar flow turbine that Tesla designed but was never built (partially because materials science at the time did not have strong enough materials to build a functional version) which was used to convert the steam to mechanical power. Although the suit did use a dynamo to generate electrical power for the weapon suite as well as Tesla's electrical control system. (Fire/Elec Tanker.) Still, Tesla had quite a few designs and concepts that did not directly relate to electricity, so part of Retrofuturist's background was inspired by the urge to reference lesser appreciated aspects of Tesla's life and career. Getting Tesla directly involved in the suit's design sort of went counter to the idea that it was something of an obscure incomplete prototype that was used out of desperation and then refurbished with later advances to build off of the original brilliant but flawed design.

FWIW, Castle often takes the blame for that because he was in charge of the powers team at the time. However, from post-mortem discussions with him and some other folks I'm pretty certain that he didn't actually want those PVP "fixes" in I13, but the order came from above him.
i recall reading some posts to that effect as well. i just wish i could remember more of the details and where i read it.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

I'm not denying some of the early arcs could use work, or that they could have been more explicitly tied to later content. But the fact of the matter is variety is needed. When CoV came out, it had ONE starting contact, and was eventually upgraded to TWO. That was a HUGE part of why I didn't get in to being a villain, and I think a large part of why I didn't have that many later-level toons - the overwhelming repetitiveness. Having one tutorial is fine, since it's designed for a specific purpose - but being forced to do the exact same mission right out of the tutorial over and over again is a terrible idea, IMO.

I certainly have no problem with choice!

But even if Hashaby is the same story, it's a good story that leaves you feeling like a hero. You get to kick Arachnos ass, save a man's wife and make a real choice about a villain. heck, you get to fight a super villain! It ties directly to the tutorial you just finished. You get to be a superhero and that's something that the contact origin stories really lacked.

There are even different contacts in the arc so it doesn't have to be the same every time. Heck, you might not even save his wife. (but you should, cause you're a hero after all)

With origin contacts, essentially, you are fighting the same guys in the warehouse that you could fight on the streets (except for the Council) If they reworked them, made them different so you feel like your're really participating in something heroic and told a complete story, then they might be fun. Of course, they would be doing almost the same thing Hashaby is doing now.

Let me put it this way. I did the origin stories multiple time. There was just no reason to repeat them as they gave me nothing but XP. Until Hashaby came along I had quit doing them altogether and just street swept until they start saying I need to go to the Hollows.  At the end I always did the arc for the same reason I did Crotoa, Faultline, The Hollows and Striga. Because it makes you feel like a hero in a comic book.

But like I said, just have whoever call you when you finish the tutorial and you can decide which to do.

I alone have discarded enough lockboxes to serve as material to rebuild a good portion of Atlas Park. :/

I stopped opening those things a long time ago :).  Can't get anything on auction without being a gold so.... :).

It'll be fun curb stomping enemies capable of curb stomping me to should I mess up again :).  But then thats not a curb stomp battle.

Whoever invented lockboxes needs to be forced to play the Keyes Reactor Trial with a league of hyperactive 5 year olds until they get the "Avoids the Green Stuff" badge - only then will they be allowed to stop.

Hmmm, whoever invented lockboxes needs to be forced to play the hero side respec trial on +4 with nothing but attackless buffless empaths untill they succeed.  They will not be allowed to stop untill they finally save the reactor.

See I was a die-hard Liberty denizen... to the point that I had my 3 accounts just to stay on Liberty :)  But yes... consolidating down would not be bad at all... I always thought one of the charms of CoH was the fact that different servers developed very distinct "personalities".
I was on Liberty from Day 1.  My mains where there, my friends were there.  And the one "true" Prime Knight was there as that was my main and my global:
@Prime Knight

I liked how quiet it was, but for raids, everyone seemed to come together and it was a party, it was a blast!

Also, geek fact:  I started on Liberty because "Liberty" was the name of the first Rebel Alliance Mon Calamari Star Cruiser to be destroyed by the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.  If you can follow all that that:  we're friends already :)

I think to pass the time i'll be rewatching angry video game nerd episodes.

You know we need real news if people are talking about CO. The mere look of the game was an instant turn off for me. Somehow the "outdated" CoH looked better. While we are at it, DCUO could have been amazing if not for that annoying as hell combo system.
