Maybe we can get a moderator in here to point out that this post is wildly off topic at this point?

Sooo... Any more news from the front?  I know its not August yet but the waiting is killing me.

I know, hehe.  And yeah the topic is wildly off topic.  I guess I'm in a bragging mood today.  I'm just remembering how I'd curb stomp so many enemies at once, creating so many fronts on the battle at once and then maintaining them.  Or curb stomping Malta operatives just by positioning myself with a stormer correctly and keep them at bay when my health was down to 25% or so yet still managing to pull a victory off(I did it by not letting them hit me and still keeping them from doing anything).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Well I think they are being a little lenient because this is some of the best news we have heard in some time, If you want really OT stuff, look back at the "14" posts.
So, we are thinking about what we loved/hated in the game, but at least we are thinking of our times in CoH.

And for the love of God.  Can I have an offline server for the 'just in case' scenario.

I don't want to lose this game again.

Azrael.

I think people will have learned by now to play it safe and if / when the game comes back officially; emulator work will continue as a precaution

Exactly!  People complaining about "discrimination" against free players are rather missing the point.  Nothing is free.  If I'm actually putting $ in the pockets of the people making and maintaining the game, I deserve more in return than the freeloaders.

IMHO, they already gave away too much for free. Being a supporter of CoH for years, I kept seeing quite a few posts complaining about "paywalls" from people who would probably never pay for anything anyways. I'd rather efforts be made to keep the folks who did pay then chase folks who don't. If I am at the point of "why pay?" its getting close to too much.

For plenty of people, silly min/maxing WAS fun.

Yep. Why worry if someone pulled an ITF in 9 minutes? 20 minutes is more than fast enough, but sometimes there is fun in seeing just how quick you can pull it off.

I *am* a moderator. ;)

There is no news. If there was news, we would not be derailing. Any tangent would be dwarfed by news-related chatter. Therefore, "no news, no real moderation, unless things get riled up".

And I was at ED on all my abilities without any boosters AND had all the slots I needed in everything WITHOUT BOOSTERS.
I want to point out that this is demonstrably, provably false. You simply cannot, using any applicable math, ED-cap "all your abilities" - even *with* boosters and frankenslotting to great effect. You have too many abilities, and too few slots.

Not every single ability in both sets were taken, one, and two, I don't try to ED cap accuracy(why would I need to when I have tons of accuracy?) nore did I try to cap end reduction(if I have enough endurance for fights...especially since I was very efficient).  It's called playstyle.  The only powers I go for max recharge are those that I need to do so for perma-effects, and I didn't go for that every time.  I had different scopes than you it seems.  Your going by ED-cap I am guessing as in capping everything on a power at once, which wasn't necessary with my builds for the results I was aiming for.  I usually go by damage alone.  Again I am aiming for practicality for my playstyle and fine tuning around my playstyle(which is aggressive, but I always applied more then a few tricks).

I could still defend myself from multiple groups of mobs if needed, I could still hold a line from a team and keep that team from being out-flanked and whatnot.  I mean your talking to someone who has regularly eaten malta operatives and knives of artemis for breakfast and took on 2-3 groups of arachnos simultaniously by good use of crowd control, proactive play and attention to the threatening enemies(enemy fortunata's and fortunata queens were my main threats, so I'd eliminate them first very fast).

I *adored* how OP I could be!! *Adored* it! I would spend a week or two in Mids **before even creating ANYTHING in CoX** just tweaking and planning - for me, that was me playing and having fun with CoX offline before I even began, researching the AT, reading forum posts on what others had done, posting my ideas and builds, tweaking and optimizing, SO MUCH FUN.

Those first couple of weeks where I was just pre-building my MIDs character were a BLAST! And *then*, having done that, I put my plan into action, like an architect moving from design to building. I would do a LOT of soloing through newspapers/radios. (I'm a little OCD, so the repetition of those missions was actually something I quite liked.) I would jump into pickup groups when I could. (In my MMO experience, CoX was the ONLY MMO in which I could jump into a pickup group with strangers (normal missions, not TFs), and still have a blast! No team wipes, no problems if one or two people were weaker, we still kicked ass!)

And when I finally got my new character to 50 a couple of months later (I take my time), the journey was a blast, and I was ready to permanently shelve the character and begin all over again with a completely new design. When the game shut down, I had over 20 level 50 characters, and each was its own wonderful journey from concept to 50!

And not for nothing, CoX is the ONLY MMO I have EVER seen that gives you SO many diverse options in creating and building a character, that you can take 20+ journeys from 1 to 50 and have each journey feel totally different, as opposed to most of those train track levelling MMOs out there.

I mean, blasters were my favorite, and I easily levelled at least eight or ten of them alone, and each one was built on different mechanical concepts. My Archer, with his wonderfully useful nuke. My AoE Fire everyone guy. My Electric Blaster. My Max IO'ed Def blaster that herded mobs like a tank! My Energy knockdown king. And on and on and on. (And I LOVED the new Water set!!!)

And how awesome was it to have the punch of a blaster, but the versatility of a Defender? I'm talking Corruptors here! I loved pairing /kin with all kinds of attack primaries!

There's been nothing like CoX since. And even with City of Titans, there's no guarantee that there will be anything like it again.

I want my CoX BACK.

Stop it, you're making me miss CoX EVEN MORE.

I LOVED IOs too! Whether it was pursuing set bonuses (I had builds with INSANE recharge, INSANE extra damage), or turning my back on sets for some HUGE frankenslotting overcharging or powers, IOs ROCKED!!

Iron-Emerald

I felt like the boosters helped a lot when needing to take lower level powers to complete a build. Especially for something like my dark melee / invulnerable scrapper where I was chasing defence with kinetic combat and eradication. It meant that I was still able to reach 'good' numbers while tinkering with the build.

Since I wanted to support the game (and because I found it fun trying to collect the power sets) I ended up getting quite a lot of Superpacks. But it really just left me with so many things that could make my characters more powerful. I enjoyed being able to give extras from power sets away to friends, but it just seemed like I had more xp boosters, enhancement boosters, inspirations, reward merits and the like than I knew what to do with. Apart from on my two level 50's I didn't really make use of the goodies apart from the power sets, but it seemed pretty clear that I could make things quite a bit easier whenever I chose to dig into the rewards sitting there.

Also, best of luck to anyone working to get this game back. :D

Go figure, everyone had there preferences when it came to how they played there characters.  No one thing was "needed".  As for what else I'm doing besides being here while I wait for august to come, watching this in the mean times.

Hehe, I know right?  I think we should see if we can get to 150 pages before august I say :) .
That'll be a bit tricky since we're only at 46 pages by my count, so this thread will have to more than triple in posts to hit 150 before August.  :o

My primary objection to the various boosters and other items that could be bought in the store was that i always maintained that anything that could be purchased in the store should be able to be acquired by subscribers in game. Not necessarily easily, but nothing should be cash shop only. (Well, possibly some of the costume pieces and powersets as long as subscribers could eventually unlock them by, for example, receiving store credits as a perk for being a subscriber.)

Also, i am fully in favor of balancing things like IO sets and the various special inspirations to be more in line with the standard in game items. A whole team boosting inspiration should be weaker in its bonus than those that affect single players for a start.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

Yeah i understand your view there.  I'm of the mindset anything should be earn-able in game myself.  I'm just of the mindset no one thing is really required to excel at this game, it's the player that matters, not just the build.  The build usually is best suited to the player, I mean all of my characters were built for how I played them, not how someone else played them.

That's great for them, but not when I was on their team.  Usually they had their difficulty set to +4 so I was facing purples, and doing little damage if I hit at all.

I came to despise said characters when I was on a team of them.  I generally played scrappers or blasters, and was not needed on teams of 7-8.  I felt useless as the mobs died around or in front of me, so I ended up soloing nearly all the time in the last many months of the game because I wanted to actually play and contribute when on a team and not watch others play.

In short, when teaming with said characters it affected HOW I PLAY.

I hate to say this but perhaps you may have needed more accuracy?  Force multipliers are a thing to appreciate, to dis-respect them is to dis-respect me :).  I played on teams at both ranges, and I didn't get bothered by the loss of damage of fighting +4, but then I always knew how to spec like that.  Likewise I often had leadership: Tactics, unless as I said earlier I didn't need it.  Alot of my goal on alot of characters wasn't to make just myself tougher or invincible, but to really augment and multiply a teams power.  I guess if people weren't taking you it may have been there problem imo.

Please, everybody!  STOP

This post should be about their efforts to restore CoX, not about what you like/dislike about it. If you want to comment about what they have to say about getting CoX from NC Soft, great! You want to thank them for their efforts? Even better! Please, just stop putting 3-4 pages of trivial garbage here! I will even start a new post in this forum so you can do that!

You are making it very difficult to find the information I REALLY WANT TO READ with all this junk.

P.S. I realize that to you, your feeling about what was wrong with CoX should be talked about, just stop it on this post.  PLEASE!!!!!!!
My Reality:
#1 I love my wife!
#2 I miss CoX!
#3 Refer to rule #1!
#4 I seem to have an itch!
