If CoX comes back, my first toon will be a Mastermind who was imprisoned at Nexon, planned his revenge, broke out and got the game back with all the ill-gotten stock cash loot in tow!

And just cause:

when I was a kid my best friend kept getting scolded for calling his little brother a dum a$$, so then we just turned it from D.A. into District Attorney, and shortened it all to just "district". So my friend would look at his brother, shake his head and say "district...." I would get the message, he would not get scolded, and his little brother would be confused (as usual).

So, THAT's what happened when I was growing up!

Thank you downix  "....and the dozen folk here who have been in talks with are important here, but all of you. Those who said what you wanted, what you'd hoped for, who did not give up. We're still not there, may never make it there, but we are not even close to giving up. And whatever happens, we can do it together. ."   I and many others have always had hope and will NOT give up. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us updated!   8)

Nyghtshade

Sounded positive to me.  :-)

Hope is, generally, viewed as positive.

What is difficult for many to accept is that the Loss of the game was much like a hostage situation.

The people that played the game for years developed a relationship with there Characters and the community.

When the game stopped it was like someone took what we had worked on for years.

Anyone that understands how the information that made up the game works knows that it could be restored.

The question is will the let the hostages free

The team that is working on the release is doing there best to get them back to us

Lets just hold in there and hope for the best

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I checked in. About a hundred pages has passed since the last time I read this thread. LOL! So I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but I just read this and thought I'd share it. To see what everyone else thought about it.

Here are the first three paragraphs.....

"Thanks to a new ruling from the U.S. Library of Congress, preserving and archiving some abandoned video games just got a little easier.

In a document published by the Library's Registrar, new exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act have been announced that will allow players and preservationists to alter games with defunct online servers in order to make them playable once again.

"Many modern video games — which may be played on a personal computer or a dedicated gaming console — require a network connection to a remote server operated by the game's developer to enable core functionalities," the document explains. Thus, when developers are no longer able or willing to maintain these servers, games — and gamers — suffer the consequences.

The Registrar concluded that "the record supported granting an exemption for video games that require communication with an authentication server to allow gameplay when the requisite server is taken offline." This means that, despite the DMCA's language blocking this kind of activity, fans, museums and libraries can now take necessary action to continue playing server-based games."

what does everyone think about this? Do you think it'll benefit us in some way and if so how do you think it'll benefit us?

I myself am hoping that if a certain group of geniuses do find away to make the game play-able again. That this ruling will keep NCSoft from sending any letters from their legal department.

I wonder though, since NCSoft is in Korea would this law even pertain to them?

Games with defunct online servers. . . .

This feels MORE like, say, the Resident Evil Outbreak games than closed MMOs, especially closed MMOs based in other countries.

I've seen stuff like this already raised on here, but I can't recall what people have been saying about it thus far.

CoH however was only OWNED overseas, it was developed in the USA and mostly functioned in the USA. IT operated primarily in united states jurisdiction.

Battlestations Midway might get help from this :D

I cannot see how CoX is an abandoned property when it is in closed negotiation for transfer of ownership

I cannot see that argument as having much sway in a court. If it weren't for the MMORPG exemption, it certainly would fall under the court's decision of being abandoned. Otherwise a company could just start closed negotiations to sell a product upon closing it, and never complete negotiations for any period of time, in order to maintain that any game is "not abandoned".

Ah... I read that wrong. :(

Well, maybe it's a step in the right direction anyways.

True but say if I had read the article correctly. Then the negotiations fell threw (which I don't believe they will. I don't see something taking this long falling apart). Then maybe it would of been a good back up plan.

I think that if that were ever to happen, then a case could be made that they were not negotiating in good faith.
