Spikes

You are not the only Guardianite here!

Spent my last twelve hours, on Guardian, taking screenshots of everyone that came into Atlas Park! :)

It sounds like everybody is planning to do TF's, Trials, Raids, etc, to celebrate our return to City of Heroes. We've got to make a new Youtube video for our BIG comeback. I don't know how I'm going to celebrate once the game comes back. Any suggestions what I should do? I'm curious.  ???

Thanks everyone. Nice to know that somebody gets it and doesn't think I'm insane.

I look forward to seeing you all in game. I purpose that we create a channel when we get back in game, something like "Iron Titans" Where the people who posted and dreamed on this and other threads, who launched effort after effort to save our game and failing that to bring it back, who kept the torches burning while our home was away can all still stay in touch.

This might help with all those Task Forces we need to run

Can I get an invite to that channel?

Solo Hamidon?

In all seriousness, I just want to play. I'll happily do anything--team, solo, street-sweep, task force, strike force, trial, run story arcs--because it will all feel like a celebration to me. Even if it's making a new character and going back through the tutorial arcs, it will be awesome because it's doing it on my favorite game all over again.

When CoH comes back all of my future vacation time will be planed around Double XP weekends, Issue releases and events.

It just dawned upon me the three things I'd like to see the new Dev's do at some point.

1. Rebuild Galaxy City.

2. Revive Statesmen (as a Hero in all of his glory.)

3. Revive Sister Psyche (as above)

Give both of them New Task Forces.

Ok so technically thats four or five things.

Perhaps the buyers of them game will come up with some type of lore as to why the city has been "dormant"...and somehow involve the resurrection of Statesman and Sister. I would imagine that they would not waste time with new content though and focus on getting the game back into the hands of the community as fast as possible. I thought it could've been a good idea though.

It will immediately go from happy to have the game back to second guessing what decisions the new team make. That is exactly why I am the middleman - to delay that until we actually have the game. Then - they get the onslaught.

All they'll get from me is my profound gratitude, and my money!

So funny thing I took inventory of all my costumes across all my 30-40 characters with screen shots so I can recreate the look of any of them if I need to. But when I fire up Icon and mess around, I find I've never needed to look at those screens to recreate most of my costumes, I can still do it just from memory in under 5 minutes and have my heroes and villains looking exactly right.

I don't relish the idea of starting over, but I could do it, and it'd probably be a quicker road this time since I know what the hell I'm doing, as opposed to before where it took me a long time to learn.  Also the XP curve is a lot nicer than it was back in I5 when I started.

Why didn't you just save the costume files? :p

Agreed on all 3 points but I would just give them their own TF's back ......

It never sat right with me that they were permanently taken out of the game.

Rebuilding Galaxy would be ok, as long as it was as a higher level zone - returning it to a starter zone would be pointless, and go against the pre-shutdown plans of Paragon Studios.
The same goes for Statesman and Sister Psyche - reviving them would be a clear sign that the restarted game was being hijacked by a group of fans, and not following the pre-shutdown plans - I'd much prefer to see the devs' idea of Tyrant being redeemed and taking up Statesman's mantle - that's got a lot of scope for interesting story development, as has Recluse refocusing Arachnos with the help of Red Widow after the loss of his arch-enemy. Plus, Positron's leadership problems, Penny Yin's continuing development in the Freedom Phalanx, and her potential conflict of loyalties with the Clockwork King, along with Manticore seemingly heading towards full on vigilante status are all very interesting story hooks that rely on Statesman and Sister Psyche being gone.
the revived game needs to be a proper continuation, not a disguised retcon.

I didn't like the way Statesman was taken out of the game, and the timeline mess it created.  In terms of the game's internal level-based timeline, he dies sometime between the tutorial and your character first arriving in Atlas Park (or the Rogue Isles), but you couldn't actually start the story where he died until you were level 10 or 20 (I forget which).  Meanwhile, Wade continued to sit in his regular spot in Sharkhead, even though he should have been removed with Statesman and Sister Psyche.

It was just a timey-wimey mess of a retcon.

Golden Girl

Like all conventional MMOs that have added content for years, the CoH timeline is inconsistent in several places - but that's not really a reason to try turning the clock back to try and make it fit one section of the community's vision of how the game should be. CoH was what it was, which was where the appeal lay - and if we get it back, then it should continue to be what it was.

Absolutely! Everyone who posts here is welcome on Iron Titans!

Frankly, if you just ask I would say welcome! I certainly don't want to waste time vetting people when I could be bopping bad guys in the head!

I didn't really like it either, but I have to agree with Golden Girl on this one. I want it back, warts and all. So what happened, happened.

However, if they could be restored story wise in some fashion, I wouldn't mind. This is a comic book superhero game after all and death is...flexible. Just look at freakin' Hal Jordon!

Failing that, they should add a statue to the fallen as they have for so many other heroes. Independence Port seems like it could be a good place.

There was a Statesman one being worked on for the central park area in Kallisti Wharf - they had a placeholder there at the time of the shutdown - http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=756328wVTCR.jpg

I wasn't happy with losing Statesman or Sister Psyche, either, but I'd still be happy with Issue 23, as was.

Let that stay up while they work on COH2.

I see two problems here.  While I agree we don't want to see fanboy hijack problems, I mean any mary sue story can be proof enough as to a reason not to have that, but at the same time, even the people who were writing those stories they'd be likely wanting to change it at this point.  Writers like to surprise people.  If a story is predictable due to say, spoilers due to the shutdown and whatnot, then the writers would feel bad about it.  I wouldn't be surprised seeing some things develop that we saw in the lore pages the devs released, but I'd also actually expect them to change things.  One dev already changed his mind about resurrecting sister psyche, he said "it'd make for good drama to keep her dead" in a way.  He said the same thing about statesman, effectively.

At the same time if he was writing again he may even turn around and do another unexpected thing.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

You know there is one question that I don't believe has been asked in our little love fest.

If we do get the game back, what happens to the spiritual inheritor projects?

Back when the game was closing the though was that these were last resorts and would only go forward if the game closed. Well, it did and they did.

Many, I believe, they have said they would play them all. It's fine sentiment. One I kinda share. After all, I did work on one for a while.

Still, I know that despite my desire, I know I won't have time to play, master and enjoy 4 potential Superhero MMO's. I'm highly predisposed to stick with CoH. It has given me so much and I know I love it. Also all my forays into other games have left me cold and jaded.

That said, I'll certainly try them IF they come out. Also, they seem to rely on volunteer efforts to a large degree. Will that pool be as committed when they can log into CoH?

I just don't know.

(I am not fishing for trouble or trying to cause static. I'm genuinely curious as to what the community thinks and also anyone who is involved if they would care to comment)

Has anyone given thought to this?
