Odd... the fastest ITFs I had been on were all melee.  I remember one all-shield ITF, now that one was epic. :)

Pull Rommy away from Nictus. Incarnate buff/debuff?
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

If I could go back and still play I24 CoH as is, I would gladly fork over two grand. In a heartbeat.

I'm not saying the devs need or want my money, I'm saying this is how very badly I need this game back. No other MMO - and I've tried just about every AAA title out there - does what CoH did.

I'm trying to be realistic about this. I'm trying NOT to get my hopes up. I know that 9 times out of 10 - or more - this stuff doesn't go the distance. But I badly need this to work out.

And I don't think at all I'm the only one.

Wow, as an 8.5 year CoH player who has been on CO since its untimely demise, you really nailed it. For goodness sake, please please PLEASE have interesting content in whatever game we end up in (Valiance Online, CoT, a reborn CoH).  CoH to me, by having both incarnate trials while still continuing to add zones, new storylines at different levels set the standard for what an MMO should be. Now contrast that with a game that while it has a fantastic character creator, is the epitome, as LaughingAlex said, of what not to do.  No endgame, no new content outside of instanced alerts,...my god.. I log in, and now have 9 alts..and they all do the same thing over..and over..and over..and over..and over.. again. Its frustrating as when I get that CoH itch, and have to log into CO, my disappointment and outright disgust continues to grow and its sad that the long term CO subscribers have been forced to accept that as a real MMO.  CoH couldn't come back soon enough!!

I agree with a number of statements here.  While I actually did enjoy the incarnate trials, especially as they became more diverse, I couldn't help but feel that elitism was being invited with them(and indeed, I ran into it a few times and I was left, to be blunt, very pissed off at the catch-22 standard elitists ALWAYS FORCE ON EVERYONE ELSE).  That said, I think overall there needs to be a variety of content besides just the raid-like incarnate trials, or just starting another alt.  I hate about CO that, well, CO takes starting another alt to an extreme and simultaniously makes it boring by forcing you to do the same repetitive content over and over again.  There are points in that game that are just unfun.  Got a char to 30 recently in CO again and once again got reminded of how overly easy monster island is(think each enemy needing a staggering 110 hits to kill you, only attacking once per second kind of easy, yeah, the damage in that part of the game is THAT low).

The key though is variety.  City of heroes was doing that, I saw, with dark astoria for example you had a whole questline added that was one of the best storylines I actually saw in the game, easily trumping Faultline and Croatoa before it.

We did also have taskforces and new mission strings introduced in the mid-level ranges to.  Lets not forget the signature story archs.  All of them were non-endgame content that could be done at almost any time.

People need to remember that this game did give us variety, it's not like CO and the "one new mission every 6-7 months" :).  Just that it needs to be made apparent and whatnot.  There was alot one could do at level 50 besides incarnate trials, just that people often mistake endgame as only one or two things and there needs to be things announced and whatnot more vocally that there is more to do then just that.

Note: If you wander why I refer to CO often, it's cause it's a good "what not to do" example.  Though I had nothing about vehicles(actually enjoyed em for more then one reason, if only enemies had more damage in that game..)

I have to admit I am becoming hopeful in spite of myself.

I still have my spreadsheet of 50+ characters, some of which I'd created, some of which I hadn't.

I wouldn't mind starting over that much, although I would definitely want to recreate my beloved Riveter (Willpower/War Mace tank, based on Rosie the Riveter, used a wrench as a weapon).

And I don't think at all I'm the only one.

I'm completely "with you" on this. There are so many things by which CoH hooked me. The fact that no formulaic combination was "the" answer was definitely part of it. Instead of attracting control-freak number-nerds, it fostered more of a "let's see what happens and adjust our strategy accordingly" approach. For me that's the definition of social animal, and exactly who I want in MY herd. Those who remained flexible and open-minded thrived. It's almost as if the unlimited possibilities made it too much the control freaks. They couldn't dominate, except in narrow niches, none of which were critical to the success of the game or the continued fun of the player base. So diversity, inclusion, and flexibility ruled, unlike any other MMO before or since.

Speaking of the Lore AMAs, is it too early to wonder if the new team will stick with the Battalion arc as described, use it as a rough guide, or chuck it altogether in favor of their own ideas? :)

Also, I guess I have to start checking on this thread every day, if you guys are going to be this active. I almost would say I miss the days (it seems like just last week...) when I only had a page or less to catch up on... *sigh*
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Here, I'll help again.

I've got to admit I'm getting a little concerned that people on Facebook are setting themselves up for major disappointment.

It's not a given that the buy will go through-- anything can happen right up until the signature is on the dotted line.

And even if it does go off without a hitch, it'll still probably take the new studio months to get the game set up and running.

Nope.  I'll make a new character and start pounding the pavement, er, I mean the mobs on the street and have a grand ole time.

I do not need my old characters and only one I would re-create.  Having Icon gave me ideas for new characters.  And by characters I mean personalities, not powerset or build  combinations.

I rarely used Mids, maybe 2-3 times.  I kept track of stuff on some scrap of paper, but otherwise could do that stuff in my head.

Wow! You could do that stuff in your head? That is really amazing to me. Based on the responses, I suppose I am definitely in the minority on this one.

Yeah, I knew it had been referenced quietly on Facebook for a while, but I really felt a sea change with the latest postings -- At this point, I'm expecting the gaming media to start sniffing around any time now.  Hopefully that won't bollix things up or trigger other buyer efforts at the worst moment.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's been working hard to, hopefully, bring COH back to life.  My husband and I met there and we miss it greatly.

Totally chucking it would be a very serious mistake - it'd make the restarted game too distant from the original intentions of Paragon Studios.

From what little I've seen (the corrupted NPCs/costume pieces seen through Icon?) or heard of the Battalion, which is very little I'll admit, I'd rather they chuck it.
Although, it would be better than space vampires of any sort.

You aren't. I try everyday to tamp down my hope for the inevitable disaster and manage my expectations. But... I just can't do it!!!

There are only a few things in life I want more than this and none of them are gaming related. i want a few more days with my parents and grandparents. I want the children I could never have. I want to have had more courage when I was younger to defend those who needed my help.

Yes, it is that level of desire. I can't explain how much this game meant to me. It may sound ridiculous to you or a casual gamer but for me it was that level of loss. I can't have most of those things I want but I can go home. I hope I get to. I really do.

They could go up to issue 24 and then change the direction, we didn't hear much about the Batalion....in the game *hint, hint* :).  Honestly i'd expect them to take a different idea on the story path as they wouldn't be able to surprise us.  Space vampires would suck imo, vampires are overdone marty stu's/mary sues anyhow these days.

Edit: Do note, though, I wouldn't want them to change and then end up copying half of my ideas.  I've my own space faction, rather, factions upon faction within factions to worry about in my own planned AE archs.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Codewalker

There's no Battalion in Issue 24 or the game files. From what I hear, the first concept art for them came back the week they found out the studio was being shut down. None of it ever made it to the stage of in-game models being created.

I think they were going to be introduced in Issue 25.

You aren't the only one. There are a lot of people to whom CoH was more than just a game. It was a home, a refuge, a sanctuary, a dear friend, comfort, and so much more. Some people can't understand that, but a lot of people I've talked to know exactly what you mean and I'm right there with them.

There were times when things were going so wrong in my life I felt like I was drowning. The only thing that helped was logging into CoH, flying to certain locations and just sitting there watching the NPCs. Other times I NEEDED to street sweep through Mercy Island with a higher level character and just kill everything I saw. CoH was better therapy than I could have gotten from a professional shrink at a minute fraction of the price. It's loss hurt almost as much as when my grandfather died.

So you aren't alone TheDevilYouKnow. I know there are more than just you and I who would give almost anything to get back into the game....even just for a few minutes.

I am with you. After like 6 months or so after I started (2004) I was able to go around the city zones like it was a second home. Knew all the ways to get around, shortcuts, etc.

Even this past weekend I was coming home from a trip and on the plane all I could of was home great it would be to get home and log into COH, but I can't.

I spent so many hours a day for 8 years in that place it really was like a home away from home.

At least there is ICON to go and visit the old places -even though you are alone. Better than not having it at all.

I have to disagree....I find that I can't log into ICON. Everytime I do and I go to AP I can almost see everyone running around, the crowd under the statue. I can't actually load a map for more than 5 minutes without my eyes tearing up. Sad and pathetic I know.

Personally, I hope your efforts to get CoX back up and running will succeed. I think that this is a very worthy goal. Even if I have to recreate all my characters from level 1, I will do so. There are a few things on my "wish list" for the return of CoX:
  • Everything is restored as it was when the servers shut down - all characters, bases, and everything else is exactly as we left it.
  • You start over as all level 1 characters, but everything you purchased (veteran rewards, costume pieces, character slots, etc.). Everything else must be rebuilt.
  • Hmm, what's worse than #2 that I can live with? Same as #2 but only 1 server (instead of the what? 11?).
  • I don't know what else to add. Money previously paid to NC Soft should be a consideration in dealing with them. People purchased game items (Veteran Rewards, Character Slots, Costume Pieces, etc.) and I believe that NC Soft should honor those agreements. Heck, I think that their shutting down CoX is in-itself a breech of contract - people purchased things (especially Characters Slots) that now they have no access to what they purchased, even if it is only a virtual item.
  • Final item - I don't want NC Soft itself to bring back CoX - I don't think I can trust them with my money. I will do the F2P if NC Soft directly brings back CoX, but doubt I will be giving them money any time soon.

I am trying to keep up with the press releases of the 3 companies trying to create a "spiritual successor" to CoX. If I knew about the kick starter project when it was active, I probably would have donated. Now, I'm too late and that's water under the bridge. I just hope that someone makes a game that is as good, if not better, than CoX was and that that project makes lots of money. That would really show NC Soft how they mess up.
My Reality:
#1 I love my wife!
#2 I miss CoX!
#3 Refer to rule #1!
#4 I seem to have an itch!
