Soon the days of having less than a tb harddrive and less than 8gb of ram will be gone. Hell I think a windows 7 system needs atleast 16gb to breathe and a 4gb graphics card minimum for most modern gaming. We're starting to see games requiring 6gb graphics cards for ultra settings. You can score an 8gb graphics card from AMD for a price much lower than nvidias current titan cards.

I'm really hoping to see AMD continuing to provide great cards for a better price because as it stands right now they aren't doing to well in the cpu market. I'm alittle annoyed there but I can't justify paying intels 500 - 1000$ i7 pricetag.

Right now I have 2, 1TB HDDs set up in mirror and they are full. . . I need to add more. I have a 3TB NAS but the backups from the other two machines have it filled up too. . . *Sigh*

I remember thinking that there was no way I could fill up a 1TB drive!

Soon as I can afford it I will go for a 3TB or 4TB internal.

As for RAM, I am running 32GB, but I have discovered that Win 10 will use as much RAM as you give it, so I really haven't gained much in the way of speed/performance improvement.
We're almost there!  ;D

I probably wouldn't use more than 2 tb normally but fraps video codec uses alot of space and I keep all of my RAW uncompressed video for backup purposes and I have a backup of a backup with two 4tb drives full now and two more to use. Also took the time to organize everything so that dvd isos and stuff are on a separate drive as well.

Soon the days of having less than a tb harddrive ...
That would depend on if you're using a Solid State drive or not, I'd think. Currently, my system has a 60 Gig SSD and a regular 1TB drive. the SSD has the operating system, and (while it was still a working thing) CoH on it. the TB drive has everything else. And I've only used about a third of the TB drive, so far.

My primary machine has a 120 gig SSD that's full and a 2TB for storage. Probably going to upgrade to something in the area of a 500 gig SSD in the near future. I also have an external 12 TB DAS in raid 10 that's full. Friday Newegg had a promo code so I ordered 5 5TB WD REDs for a Thecus 5550 I bought last year, but refused to pay over $200 each for the drives. 25 TB sounds like a lot, but I'll be running the NAS in raid 6 so it's really only 15 TB.
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

Why should I have to go looking for it?  Why should I have to watch the front page like a hawk for each new piece of information?  Poor communication.

*sigh* Again with the low reading comprehension.  I don't want the game out "nao", I want UPDATES.  I can accept that virtually all of the game is not in a showoffable state.  But TELL ME THAT.  This isn't like the NCSoft negotiations where an NDA can be broken just by acknowledging its existence.

Don't flood me with fanfic and leave me wondering what the hell is going on.  What did you work on this week, powers?  Map system & navigation?  Mission mechanics?  There is a lot of room for non-screenshot updates that have nothing to do with lore.  But then, I suppose they're probably overflowing with people writing lore, since that's what most people volunteered for...

Do they even have anybody trying to do PR?  By the time they get this done they may find there's nobody left who cares if they're just going to stay mum.

I've tried to make this point numerous times on the CoT forums and systematically get blown apart by the blind fanboys that constantly lurk around there consumed by their devotion to the *idea* of CoT.  I feel like they are still hiding behind the "we only just finished pre-production" excuse.

Man, if people are so upset with MWM over CoT's update schedule... They must *REALLY* hate me. Lol.

This is what I get for napping. I have no idea what this is in reference to. I mean, I know MWM and CoT, but I wasn't aware there was an update schedule. And, I really don't care if I ever see an update. I wish they'd stop spending that time and effort with them. Work on the game. We can worry about updates after we can log in and play.

There isn't a schedule for updates, nothing I'm aware of anyway. Impatience is making people feel like there is one, though, and that it isn't being met.

That's one downside I find about things being so quick and accessible on the internet. Major projects still take years to get done, just like they always did and always will; but nowadays, since you can find out about those projects earlier, it *feels like* it takes a lot longer between newsworthy milestones.

Personally, I agree they should concentrate on getting the work done. It's a slow going project anyway, considering its size. Slower because it's being done entirely by volunteers in their spare time. It takes months of effort to *have* anything new to show. Stopping every couple weeks to talk about it is only going to make that take even longer.

I'd recommend skipping the 3TB drives. They have a much higher failure rate (especially Seagate's 3TB drives) than either 2 or 4TB drives.

Everything I'm about to say is of course dependent on (a) my foggy memory; (b) any potential misunderstandings of reading through stuff piecemeal; and (c) how much things change between when you first hear about them and when you actually see them.

CoT updates used to be every Wednesday; now they are every second Wednesday.

Just off the top of my head, mechanical stuff that has been announced in updates or mentioned in forum posts includes:

  • A primary/secondary/tertiary powerset system.  Primaries and secondaries are akin to CoX.  Tertiary powersets are reduced (I think in terms of both variety and potency) versions of primaries and secondaries, designed to allow players to round out characters in a manner similar to APPs/PPPs.  Additional power types such as travel powers and skills also available.
  • There are masteries that give you further control over your build, similar to archetype inherents.
  • The "noncombat" skills are being designed in such a way that they present an alternative solution to combat.  No content is gated behind particular skills, but you might for example manage to break a security code on a door, bypassing the need to go beat up the guy with the key.
  • Powers have different kinds of "enhancements" split into categories.  There are augments (such as damage), and whenever you slot an augment you also get refinement slots (such as accuracy).  There are also powerset-wide augments that, for example, could change a portion of the damage to a different type.  Global bonuses will be limited to slotting into tertiary powers.
  • A baseline for an augment is 25% enhancement.  However, that number won't necessarily translate into 25% more raw potential.  It's a 25% increase in "output," which I presume is akin to a formula that determines the net effect of enhancement, similar to enhancement diversification though likely quite different.
  • Powers are decoupled from animations.  For example, if you have a Breath of Fire-like power, then you could have it animate from a gun like a flamethrower, from your hands like a spell, or from your mouth like a breath weapon.
  • There's a system called "momentum."  This is built up during combat much like fury.  Over time, momentum will bleed off into reserves, like inspirations.  Some builds/opponents will feature additional ways to use momentum, such as breaking free of control effects.
  • They've crunched a lot of numbers for combats, including powers and opponents, and run combat simulations for testing.

That's a fair amount of stuff.  I just don't know what else people are expecting.  Do you seriously want an update that reads like this: "The art guys built some stuff.  A mailbox and a lamppost.  Couple of trucks.  The techie guys tried to build the mapmaker function but it didn't work, so back to the drawing board on that one.  Powers guys ran another few thousand simulations and tweaked the output formula for defense."?

I don't see it being worth the effort for them to put together trivial updates of this sort.  When they've advanced a system to the point they feel they know both what they want to do and whether they can actually do it, then they can announce it.  And if you check out the kickstarter update list then you can see what they've already said on the matter.

Indeed.  My C: Drive is a SSD, where all programs are installed.  But then I've got 2x 2TB storage drives as D: and E:.

CoT updates used to be every week. Now they are every other week. And still feel like they mainly consist of lore and other ideas. Nothing much tangible. The info breakdown by Pyromantic is all correct, however most of those concepts (which at this point are still just ideas written down somewhere and nothing functional) were released MONTHS ago with no real follow up since.  And we were told a working costume creator would be released for testing by December 2014. And we've yet to see even ONE fully rendered outfit.

I don't subscribe to the idea of community updates slowing down game progress. Some people get so worked up over the idea that if MWM takes time to keep it's fan base updated on things, that it will take away or slow down the actual game building. That's ridiculous. You can't honestly think that writing a couple of paragraphs to keep backers in the loop will have any kind of measurable effect on development.

Apogee

Considering they are working on CoT in their spare time every time they go to the bathroom it has a measurable effect on development.

Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.
