Question.  How does 15% give Nexon a controlling margin? Surely they'd need 51% for that?

I am still not sure where "controlling" entered the picture.  At 15% ownership you can be vocal or a pain in the butt That needs to be appeased. Besides, this is no big deal as they are just shuffling family members around the management ranks.

This is more distraction than anything while they figure out how to position the next boobie grind fest product that will target Asia... And not North America.

Isn't it 20% to have a significant influence in a company? Where they would have the power to participate in the operating/financial policy decisions, but necessarily full control?

FloatingFatMan

Surely though, to be a hostile takeover, means you have a controlling interest in the company? To my mind, that means 51% or more, otherwise you're just a shareholder with ultimately no actual control over company direction.

I believe that Nexon is the largest holding "entity" at 15% with Taek Jin Kim around 10%...."others" round out at about 55% with a couple of 10% investors in there as well.  Others more than likely meaning insignificant smaller individual investors or groups.  So 15% would be the controlling interest in this case.

Ironwolf

However the top few people are all related. I would think between them they have enough to hold off Nexon for a while.

Would it be too much to ask if an email can be sent to this team to determine more details of what's going on with the deal? "No news is good news" was fine a couple months ago but it isn't going to hold up forever...

I'm sure the team isn't just sitting around playing poker while they wait on ncsoft to sell them the game. Maybe get some details on thoughts and plans they have for when the game is acquired?

Just to be safe, I wouldn't even ask for a time line. If I remember correctly, last time Nate gave us details it almost derailed everything. To take your mind off CoX, I raise the question, why didn't they give Marshawn Lynch the ball?

They have controlling interest according to this article. But its still more net news stories.

I am sure when Champions, DCUO, and the Marvel effort were under development, they thought they had better games than CoH, and that the MMO world would be set ablaze by each one as it went live.
I had a theory dating back to before CO went live that I called the Johnny Appleseed theory, which to the best of my knowledge I was the first to suggest.  The theory was that back when Cryptic was first developing CO and STO, Jack had a notion to be a Johnny Appleseed of MMOs: come up with an idea, form a team of developers to rapidly iterate that game, and then quickly move on and repeat.  Instead of making hundreds of millions of dollars off of one single massive home run, Cryptic instead would make just a couple million dollars on a smaller niche MMO, then another, and another, until they had a large family of MMOs leveraging similar technology and development methodology.  I based this theory on a print interview Jack gave where he commented on how MMOs could be niche and still successful, and my impressions of Jack as enjoying launching MMOs a lot more than maintaining them.  This didn't come to pass exactly for different reasons, but I think there is a legacy of the idea in CO, STO, and NWN.

I don't think Champions Online was meant to "set ablaze" the MMO world.  I think it was mean to roughly replicate the approximate success of CoH, as the first of many MMOs that also basically replicated the success of CoH.

While I am honestly not up to speed on the corporate machinations of Nexon or NCSoft, I have to wonder:

If the Powers that Be within NCSoft hoard their closed games because... MINE! and there's the threat of another company coming in and, essentially ripping them out of NCSoft's storage locker/display case/whatever metaphor you want here...

Would NCSoft be more likely to say, "OK, you... bully!  You can't have these games!  They're OURS, not yours, so.... Here, passionate gaming community, take them!  We know you love them and will care for them as much as we did!  Don't let Nexon have them!"

*shrugs*

If history is any guide, the odds of this happening are significantly lower than the odds that NCSoft decides to move the entire company to another country and leave no forwarding address and hope the hostile company gives up because they can't find them.

Thinking back about Coh I long to laugh at some of it's jokes whether they be intentional or unintended, like the soldiers? (sorry been a while) MM power where you throw your soldiers a duffle bag, they unzip it and wade through it's contents to pull out a hamburger and hold it high in the air. like

"YEAH!!!! master has seen fit to give me food I am eternally grateful, look; hamburger! hamburger!!!! I will cherish this day.." and the others are like "you go dude! yeah master is so cool! I wish he'd feed us too."
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

Because Seattle knew that the Patriots would be expecting it. But New England knew that Seattle knew they would be expecting it, so they prepared for a pass! Seattle was just one step behind in the knowing chain.
I used CIT before they even joined the Titan network! But then I left for a long ol' time, and came back. Now I edit the wiki.

Must take a psychic to prepare for that, or a camcorder :P I know more than "likely" Belichick probably didn't do that this year, but its still funny. Actually what was more funny was getting a lesson on physics from Professor Belichick on why there is no way he could have cheated

Not even that, they had 3 downs for 1 yard, sneak it twice then make a decision, you have to run plays that will not lose yards, not turn the ball over and burn some time off the clock if it doesn't get in so NE can't get the tying FG.

I really does boggle the mind for that play call (and they had two time outs too.) Probably because Pete Carroll just wanted to put the icing on the cake for Wilson (though he denies changing the play.) Although I think it is pretty ironic that the Pats rallied in the 4th to win like the Seahawks rallied in the 4th against my Packers in the last moments of the Championship game.

1)  It was 1st and goal from the 2 with 1 time out left and about a minute left on the clock.
2)  You don't want to give the Patriots much time left on the clock, should you score.
3)  Wilson got lucky with the passing.  Through much of the first half, he was without a completion.  That pass to the 6 yard line (? doing this from memory) was a miracle catch.

So my thoughts are these:

The clock was ticking.  If you complete the catch for a TD, it's good.  You have to hope the D can hold Brady and company.

If the pass was incomplete, it was essentially a spike and the clock stops without wasting the timeout.  At that point, you pound Lynch up the middle the next play, call timeout, and have two quick chances left to cross the goal line.

The INT was, let's be honest, a fluke, much like the miracle catch a few plays before.

The problem was that the secondary was manhandling the Seahawks recievers all game.  I would have thought it would be slightly smarter to throw to the outside of the line than right over the center...

Now, were it me, I would have given the ball to Marshawn.  But I get the thought process of WHY they went for the pass.

Beware the mighty faceplant!
