*chuckle* You wouldn't be wrong IF an i5 was within the budget range for this build. :)
Except it wasn't and the i3-4130 was discounted to a point where the difference between it and G3220 was $20, so *shrug* I went for it. It's a stopgap, but for now works well enough that replacing it is not an urgent priority.
The entire PC was assembled on a $500 budget, with the focus on making it a decent basis for later upgrades.
Hence this and some other oddities in the configuration that would not make a shred of sense otherwise.
"Trust me, I know what I'm doing" :p

Not bad, I picked up a G3220 for $39 and its actually a decent proc for a home server. (if anything its almost overkill) but if you got an i3 for $20 more even better.

Alarm bells go off in my head when someone quotes Sledge Hammer.
Linux. Because a world without walls or fences won't need Windows or Gates.

As far as healing all the time with the emp. I just used auto heal and let it roll from there . Of course before groups that were a little too strong , I would drop clear mind and fort if I could.

On topic of graphics card, I choose the NVIDIA side . I seen too many ATI's mess up on me and my friends in the past . That being said, the old job piece computers are running  R7's and not a single problem from them.

I'll agree - if he's playing games from GOG.com, he should be all set. Otherwise, welcome to the new Celeron. (Ugh.)

Great. Now I've got the theme song stuck in my head again.

For what it's worth, Dell has an XPS 8700 with a 4th gen i7 for only $730. I got one, slapped an SSD and a decent video card in it, now it screams.

G3220s are $70 here, actually, with an i3 at around $140

Mission accomplished, then. ;D
It's among the most frightening short sentences, right next to "what can go wrong" and "what's that ticking noise?". :p

I have it on good authority that neither last year's Tomb Raider reboot nor DXHR Director's Cut are on GOG yet.  :P
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

...Turn this thread into CITY OF HEROES SPECULATION and that's what it is... speculation.  The army of Titan Moderators can snub any new threads on "what's the status" and point to #1.  If anyone starts a new speculation thread they can snub that one and point to this... Maybe every dozen pages or so a form-letter is posted into the thread to say "SPECULATION... GO HERE <<LINK>> FOR OFFICIAL WORD.... "

See, here's the problem though. It's ALL speculation. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Ironwolf a liar. He's definitely talking to the team that is working on getting the game back. But everyone needs to realize that he is NOT part of that team. Like me, he's just a guy who knows a guy, and the information he's posting here should be considered second-hand. While he's generally got a pretty good bead on what's going on, I've also seen him draw some incorrect inferences as well.

So what you're asking me to do is the same as, for example, referring to someone who knows someone who works at Apple and has an Apple fan blog as a source of official Apple information. Extending the metaphor, he might mention that Apple is coming out with a new smart watch. Apple fans get excited and start talking about what features they want it to have and what effect it might have on the market place, which is cool. But then when people start fighting over what an Apple smart watch should or shouldn't be or posting messages about what we "know" (which we don't really), everyone needs to take a step back and calm down. And of course, posting messages on Facebook telling the Apple haters to please stop posting negative messages about Apple because it might jeopardize the decision for Apple to come out with a smart watch, well, hopefully you can imagine how useful that would be.

All I'm saying--all I've said all along--if that if you want to talk about the prospects of getting City of Heroes back, great! As long as Ironwolf isn't posting stuff that I think is deliberately false and misleading (which he hasn't so far), he's certainly welcome to keep posting away. And hopefully sooner or later the team that is directly involved in these talks will come forward and make some sort of announcement, and if or when they do, I'll be more than happy to back it up as being official information from a first-hand source. Until then, though, we're all just average, ordinary, unofficial folks.

Thanks for that. It's incredibly important to stay level-headed and realize we're all the same--CoH fans waiting with bated breath hoping that everything goes well, so we can all see each other again in our beloved city. :)

I tried very hard to skip over this and not respond - but I could not do it.

Including an i3 in your gaming rig is so wrong, that I'm going to have to ignore anything you say regarding computer hardware from now on. Sorry.

Don't be sorry. You're entitled to formulate an opinion of others based on what they post, and whether it makes basic common sense from your own experiences. It's only pragmatic.

Getting back to the more important topic at hand:

Superteams:  Who has what available and what are the best known combinations available?

So I have available:  Mind/kin (controller) [50+incarnate],   Zombie/dark (mastermind), [50], Bots/FF (mastermind) [35].

And should we get the game back (and our characters so I don't have to remake the above.  I'm planning on starting a Grav/Time (controller), and a Animal/Nature (mastermind)

As far as what combos would devastate:
A few of my pics are:
1.  The classic over powered controller: Ill/Rad (controller),
2.  The classic destroy all controller: Fire/Kin (controller)
3.  Personal favorite that I was introduced to with great synergy: Zombie/Dark (MM),
4.  The practically unkillable Bots/FF (MM)
5.  And of course, I'm very partial to my main: Mind/Kin.  I might even be willing to pick up speed boost for a super team :)

Of course, the better the player the better the controller.  I've heard of some devastating Ice/ controllers although they seemed rare and the newer Plant/ was a great control set as well.

What do you think, who wants to make up a super team of controllers and play an ITF.  Then Join up with a superteam of Masterminds (plus a few others) and hit the Ritki Ship?

See, here's the problem though. It's ALL speculation. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not calling Ironwolf a liar. He's definitely talking to the team that is working on getting the game back. But everyone needs to realize that he is NOT part of that team. Like me, he's just a guy who knows a guy, and the information he's posting here should be considered second-hand. While he's generally got a pretty good bead on what's going on, I've also seen him draw some incorrect inferences as well.

So Tony, on a previous post where you were summarizing what YOU understand of the situation, you mentioned that we were likely to know one way or another by the end of August

That seemed a lot more definite to me than Iron Wolf's "their lead developer said they're working towards an August close" (paraphrased).  My question is, is YOUR August reference just Iron Wolf's, because it seems to me that the "proving they can support the game" "we're working on something to show them" (paraphrased again) suggests to me that the August timeframe may not still be "we're likely to know one way or another" timeframe.

And I don't want to see a prolonged Titan Network Heart-attack/suicide/self-immolation thread (unless it's done in ICON which might be kinda cool)

If I had to make a guess based on things independent of what Ironwolf has said, I'd say there was a convenient opportunity to have a face-to-face meeting in late August. If that were the case, they would probably have an informal list of things hashed out in advance for both sides to bring to that meeting. Things that for the mystery buyer's side would include something to show that they're serious and capable of maintaining the game in a way that wouldn't devalue NCSoft's image, as well as the financial backing.

IOW, we definitely won't have any good news before the end of August. We might have good or bad news then, or we might not, depending on the results of that meeting and if any terms need further work on either side to hammer out (or if either side just plain says 'no').

I especially loved the "pure healers" who were emp Controllers. I mean WTF. All the emp powers (even better when they also took the entire medical pool), and all you took for actually PREVENTING disaster was your single target hold and maybe the pet - MAYBE? Oh, my god, you are definitely doing it wrong!

As a die-hard emp (more emps in my stable than any other support set - though kin was coming up there by the end!), yeah, I definitely looked down on "pure healers". Especially later in the game. Pure healers. LOL. You're not contributing jack or squat when the entire group's health rarely budges.

On the other hand, I played an Ill/Emp controller and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I ever had. It could do a bit of everything including Healing, Buffing, Crowd Control, Dealing Damage and Stealthing. I even helped tank against Recluse on an STF once with my Phantasm/Phantom Army and invisibility. A lot of people scoffed that I took group invisibility, but honestly, when I slotted it for recharge and defense boost? It served as a damn nice AOE buff plus stealth in between mobs. Stack that with RAs and buffs passed to the team members who exhibited the most need for each and I could make a team pretty damn sturdy all by my lonesome. I was also told that I did an amazing job keeping people alive because I ran right into the fray with Superior Invisibility on so I wouldn't have to worry about ever being out of range and I'd know exactly who just took an AV fist to the face and needed that heal stat.

It really is true though that the best healers are the ones that you never even notice are there. If you have to constantly shout for heals or clarity then you remember exactly how good that healer did. If you blaze through the mission and they keep on the ball with buffs and heals then you won't even realize that they were there.

Understanding that's a guess, CW... I find the bolded part to be quite... amusing. :)

And I also am having a struggle with that, and the bit right after, regarding financial backing.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I see a bit of logic regarding it, but really... They're selling a game they shuttered.  Did they care what Cryptic thought about that?  I'm guessing they did not even consider it whatsoever.  Further, whatever NCSoft did with it past when they bought it from Cryptic, did you hear Cryptic crying foul?  No.  At least, I don't think so...

So why, after they sell it (assuming this happens to happen), and even if they demand their logo stay stuck on it, would they even care about their image?  "We sold it.  Not our baby anymore.  Good dang luck with it."

And if that's a hang up, well... they can have the logo removed, and it's no longer a problem.  Problem solved.

And EVEN IF it didn't prove to be a problem upon the sale of it, and it then was flying along quite nicely without them.. then in a year, say, things got bad in some way?  Why would it matter to NCSoft?  Because you shuttered it?  Then sold it?  And now you're not shepherding it, and you gave up control of it, but wanted your logo on the login screen?  And you're.... what... concerned about your image?!

Right.

If that's a hang up... this is totally a wasted effort by the team trying to buy it.

Which dovetails into the financial solvency thing.  Again, it should not matter.  Why?

They're selling it.  It's not like once it's sold they have any stewardship over it.  It's not like they can swoop in afterwards and say "Oh, you paid us, but we think you need to relinquish control of it, you imbeciles.  We know best."

If they knew best, the damn game wouldn't have been shut down.  So no, you don't know best, NCSoft, go away (after you sell it.)

You'll understand if I seem a bit incredulous that these two things are even ON THE TABLE.  What the hell do they care?  It's closed.  Reopening under new management does nothing in regards to NCSoft's image or pocketbooks if it's a total sale.

If it's a partial sale, with extra proceeds going to them as a percentage of profits?  Well, if I'm the team, frak that noise.  All or nothing.  Or why the HELL do you bother?

Whatever the sale, it needs to have ONE THING above all else... NCSoft is *out*.  They need to get their hands out of the game, and walk away once a deal is done.  For if they retain any control... then we have no hope that it doesn't live on.

Come to think of it... the bolded part does, in fact, NOT amuse me.  At all.  :p

As much as I'm sometimes chomping at the bit to find out anything at all that I hope to be in our favor for the game's revival, all speculation does is make you get your hopes up prematurely. I'm not saying don't be optimistic, just be realistic. I'm honestly having more fun just reminiscing and reading everyone else's discussions about AT builds and what not.

There's one lesson, that the closing taught me, that I'll be taking with me back into CoX. I had gotten so wrapped up and engulfed in the game that the sunset announcement devastated me. So I'll be using more moderation this time, and maintaining more outside activities and interests - more of a life, as some would insultingly put it. I will definitely still enjoy it, but I intend to avoid letting it consume me this time. (If such thoughts be heresy, then so be it.)
