New efforts!

Illusionss

It'll go just like it did when it was first introduced to the game. People are going to manipulate the market, just like they did in the game and just like how they do IRL. It wont be a shock when it happens; we have seen this before.

Actually, Matt "Positron" Miller said that he tried to get NCsoft let them push it out to live, but they wouldn't let him.  It wasn't a matter of a dev not being there, they wanted to do it before the shutdown.  The problem is that NCsoft was afraid that if they pushed it out right before letting all of the devs go and there was a problem, there wouldn't be anyone around to fix it.  I actually kinda don't blame them for this; keep in mind they'd already pretty much blown off the player base as it was.  Taking a chance on adding the "...oh, and the game you have through the shutdown is going to have some fatal bug in it" insult to injury was just too much.

Positron tried to argue that it had been in testing long enough to iron out all of the kinks and it was stable enough to go out, but he lost that fight, and thus I24 was relegated exclusively to beta through the shutdown.

I played i24, and I ADORED it. CoX perfected.

Because you are enjoying the "Clean Slate/I want It All" debate so much? No thanks!

We don't know. My guess would be put up CoH and use the Unreal engine for CoH2. It isn't like CoH's graphics are that outdated.

Ultra settings helped a lot but CoH's graphics are indeed outdated.

That has no bearing on the fact that the game is excellent - and that we're all used to the graphics as they are - but it's the one area where it could be criticized.

As someone reading this with a Miller Lite in one hand (because I start to take it too seriously without one; or ten), I have to fall back to "why can't it be both?"
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

I don't really understand the talk about COH2. Is that a continuation of COH once it is converted onto the Unreal engine? (a la Runescape 2) If it is its own game (from the ground up), why bother converting CoH to Unreal engine to begin with?

^^This.

If all that CoH2 is amounts to "port it to New Engine," I'll stick with static CoH1 in maintenance mode. Honestly, if CoH2 changes the basic "feel" of the game too much, I'll stick with CoH1 in maintenance mode.

(Either way, I still plan on giving the successor projects an honest, subbed try. One is looking really promising, but I don't want to say which.)

We all want the game back.

Almost everyone wants to get back as much as we possibly can.

A few people would prefer a clean slate start.

Sentinel files are not useful for restarted commercial game

We would all (mostly) be willing to pay a fee to make this happen or to play or to get our stuff or to sub.

But with CoH II as the main game of the franchise, it's continued development and larger player-base would very likely be enough to keep the legacy game up and running in a static state - they could even include access to the legacy game as perk for subbing to CoH II, for example.
I would like to add my name to the chorus saying this sounds like a great idea.

Now, to the real issue at hand.  Yes, I want my characters back.  I really, really want them back.  Logging into the game and not seeing them waiting for me would be heart-breaking.  So on the question of "should the buyers fight to get our characters?", my answer is a resounding YES.

But I'm also a mature adult who knows that you don't always get what you want.  So New Guys, fight like hell, but I won't be mad if it just isn't feasible.

THIS.. 1000 times YES...

The problem is that server maintenance and bandwidth are expensive, so the new owners would need to have enough players prepared to pay for playing a static version of the game to make it economical - with no further development, there'd be no cash shop, so it'd be sub only to access a static  game - and while in think there'd be enough players at first who'd be willing to do that, several years of zero development would very likely see those numbers fall, possibly to a point where it was no longer profitable to keep the servers open.
But with CoH II as the main game of the franchise, it's continued development and larger player-base would very likely be enough to keep the legacy game up and running in a static state - they could even include access to the legacy game as perk for subbing to CoH II, for example.

I know that "haves and have nots" will occur in the game, though I see it'll be more due to how people become haves being a factor than anything.  I already have my plan, it's something I did to go from being a total have not to a have in less than a few months using alignment merits and alignment missions and even the normal merit to alignment merit system.  It works, big time.  As I said, i'm not at all concerned about that, initial phases of things :).
If you are willing to share info on that, I'll listen.

I actually called myself a "have"....I'm not sure that's really true.   I had maybe two lvl 50s who were loaded up with rare stuff.   I used MIDS, but I don't think I ever became good enough at it to do what others talk about.  ....Soloing AV's?   How does anyone do that???

This was me after 8 years...it's fair to say I suck at this game compared to some other people.   When I see someone else say they can get back what they had quickly, my mind boggles.   With me it was a long slow process.   Going back to square one is not a minor thing for me.

*required statement*  I'll take whatever we get of course

If you enjoyed playing CoH, then you were winning the game.

Losing is fun though!  If your having fun, your in reality, winning.  So losing is winning!  .......Ok, actually, it's just losing is fun!
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

I always wished for a set of games that you could bounce between with your characters. Kinda like moving between dimensions. You could take stuff with you, but it might be different on the other side. There would be advantages to each place and you wouldn't want to stay in just one. Might be kinda nice if COH/V 2 was a similar game but one you would play alongside of the first and you wouldn't stay purely in one. Just a dream.

My mom would come in and ask me if I "won" yet.  I would tell her "no, there is no winning, just having fun".
