To paraphrase others who know much more than I:

1.  Get the game back.
2.  Worry about everything else.

To worry about what comes next is moot if we cannot get the game back.  :)

The reason it just rambles at times is to allow folks to blow off steam. I once went 3 weeks or so with no comment and it about killed everyone.

I don't bother the folks doing the buying often. They occasionally will tell me stuff out of the blue and I will ask them every 2 weeks or so. Part of what is taking so long is the securing of assets. Once it is known what we are getting it likely will be them NOT me - telling you. I will be quietly fading into the background and going full on fanboy!

HEATSTROKE

can you define securing of assets to the best of your ability and to what degree you might be comfortable?

And if you can share nothing.. then that is ok as well..

Thank U...

I was cleaning up my old bookmarks and decided to stop in and see if it still hurt as bad knowing I would probably never be able to play again. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I found this thread.

Keep up the good work everyone. Hope to see y'all back in the game before long.

It's not possible, and too many devs spend too long trying to be the first ones  to do it - and it's especially silly when a game is focused on PvE.

Just because it's impossible to achieve perfect balance doesn't mean that there shouldn't be an effort to maintain a reasonable level of balance. That's like saying that crime is never going to be fully eliminated so there's no point in fighting it.

Have to agree, played 8 1/2 years and did the same, had SOs, did get a couple of IOs on one character but it wasn't a big deal for me; was able to still do trials, etc.. and you could make the game as hard or easy as you wanted..definitely one of the most flexible games I've played.  In CO, I HAVE to get gear to fight in the alerts, missions, etc

I dont accept this. I played the game for years before IO's were introduced. The game was never MADE harder because of IO's. I had friends who I played with regularly that NEVER used IOs. They didnt like crafting.. so they always used SO's...

Now could the game be easier for people with IO builds.. yes... but the game was not changed to make it harder on those that never used them.

I never farmed maps for influence.. All I did was sell my stuff in the market.. and I didnt stand around all day in the market watching it like a hawk.. just put it ip for a price and go play.. eventually it sold.. It really wasnt difficult to utilize all the different ways made available to build IO'd characters..

And even if you never wanted to do it.. the game wasnt made any harder.. in fact you had the ability to make the game as hard or as easy as you wanted all the time..

Indeed city of heroes wasn't considered a grind to many, myself included, because alot of people knew you didn't need to be geared up to the max to do well.  It wasn't not like 99% of the mmorpgs out there where if you weren't setup a certain way and geared up you'd lose or hold a team back or something.  It was the strategy you used that mattered more than anything.  Sure IO's could help pull off some strategies, in the end it was strategy that made the difference.  If the game comes back, I recommend everyone try a stormer out and make sure you take tornado and find every spot you can use it in.  You'd be surprised at how much you could achieve if you let it knock enemies around in the right locations.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Perhaps what would be a basic, yet assuring, answer would be a current nominal or percentage, of what those involved, feel would be appropriate estimate of the likelihood we will be having a home-coming party in the D. My personal feeling is that we are in the high 80's percentile.

There was effort to balance the game, but it was balanced around a different philosophy of play than most games.  Pvp the numbers were separate for a reason, granted the devs actually wanted to roll back some changes like blaze doing less damage than flurry.  In pve though, the game was balanced around damage mitigiation, crowd control and whatnot first, healing as a last resort and only as a last resort.  The game was balanced around that, because that was how it avoided being a holy trinity.  A holy trinity is balanced around healing being first from support with all damage mitigation being only in the hands of a tanker, which unfortunately gets stagnant fast, and isn't really balanced.  Any combination of AT's could work in CoX as no one AT was required in a team, that was the true beauty of the game.  In a sense, it was better balanced than most people really realize.  The I24 changes were more to buff up some things that were almost always skipped within blast powersets, rather than bring ranged AT's in line(the changes wouldn't have really changed things that much due to how the powers in question were designed).

All this is very true. It was beautiful, because you could take any combination with your friends, (assuming you had them, and with this community you probably did.) You could roll a scrapper and a controller and do anything an eight-man team could. Alternately it was also possible to roll two broots of two different colours and do the same. This didn't make any class obsolete or moot, but also didn't make them required to do anything within the game if you went without. The only thing that was not balanced is the gain you received if you ran with seven others on an ITF, versus the massive reward I received when running it by myself. (I really could, and I am not saying this to stroke my gentleman's pride.) But then again by myself took significantly longer, which could arguably be the balance in itself.

The only thing I wish could have been granted, was the ability to run x8 +4 material by myself with a ranged archetype. (Yes I know some controllers claimed this to already be possible.) However, without the most help from Incarnate material, the most I could ever accomplish with my blaster or my fortunata was x8 +2.

I want a Vault Gun power added to the game for us to use (umm redside).  I remember running newspaper missions to secure it, but never got one for me to use.  Was really bummed about that!  Even if it was a one-shot temp that you could only have one charge of, then you had to go secure another, I'd've  liked that.

P.S.  Today as I was driving to work, I saw a van with  The Pinnacle  sign on it.  Think it ended up being a church van as I passed it.  Sorry, I was alone so no pics.

This.  So much this.  The news that there is even a tiny sliver of a chance of getting the game back has me bouncing off the walls.  I would absolutely love it if they could flip a switch and have everything as it was the day they turned off the servers.  But I'll also be happy even if I have to start all the way back at Square 1.  I still have all my notes and plans from my old characters (I couldn't bear to delete the files), and I can rebuild my world.

Should it be assumed they've come to an agreement on what it would take to acquire the IP? The monetary value that is.

I haven't been in for a long time, mostly because I have insane writing contracts -- some of it was depression because I was on City of Heroes daily to charge up the adrenaline, to pour out frustration, to run through a story, to build a costume of one of my book characters to send to my editor -- all that went away (though I have Icon).  I must admit that I didn't think of COH every day, but I will also admit I thought of it at least every week, after all, that Icon is sitting on my desktop...

Thank you to all who continue the effort to return City of Heroes.  I will be there, I will support it, and I (hopefully) will cut folks some slack if what I want the way I want it doesn't happen.

Thank you.

Ironwolf has said there was a monetary figure provided and that it was 'doable'.

I just thought of something very disheartening that I hope is very much NOT the case.

What if the new buyers or the devs that end up working on the game end up changing things that ought not to be changed.  Suddenly all IOs are only available with real money, you can only have 1 character slot, powers are tweaked so that they are far less effective, debt is made relevant, enemies are all given powers that can apply a full 1 minute hold even on Tankers, etc. etc.  Costume pieces will all be given stats!?!

Isn't it entirely possible that some of the fans of the game who had the most ludicrous of ideas on the forums are the very people who will be put in charge of this game and destroy everything that we love about it?

Those things have been talked about to some degree here already. I can't imagine someone coming in with plans to do drastic things to the game and have the community behind them. Would you dump a bunch of money into something you weren't sure would work, or go with a sure thing? And since they're still trying to secure funding they have to sell it to someone. The smart money is on no changes.

I agree with this I can see them changing things like making galaxy a starting point again, but to change the game so drastically I also don't see it.
One day the Phoenix will rise again.

To be honest, I don't either, but it was one of those thoughts that burst into my head like waking up from a bad dream!

That's just the thing though, we wouldn't know their plans until after the sale was final.
