New efforts!

Ironwolf, maybe you should go back to the first post and make that an update post so we have someplace to send people to get the current news on what we know.

Or alternately, a sticky that contains the same information that we can send people to. Just make the post and lock the thread. An admin could update for you I suppose or maybe there is way you can do it.

Anyhow, just a thought.

Or...God forbid we stay on topic so there's not 70+ pages of "<Insert googled item here> happened when I was 14!".

No no no...that would never work. let's go back to your idea Devil.

I don't mind the repeated questions honestly. I look at anyone who is still genuinely interested in CoH returning as a friend yet to be made.

I have even had some more passionate folks speak to me in messages or to my personal email. I really don't mind. 18 months later and you still care enough to ask? You are who we want around.

Ok thanks. I haven't checked here for a while and the thread got so large I haven't read them all to catch up.

Though storage is cheap - would be nice if they hung on to everything just in case.

The biggest problem would be NCSOFT, our accounts contain customer data and NCSOFT probably doesn't want to part with that. I'm hopeful that we will get character data back but its very likely we won't get it.

I think this has been stated a couple of times to be a non-problem. Games change hands all the time, and the customer data transitions seamlessly (most of the time).
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Quote: I do not want to be pesimistic but I dont think the game is coming back by itself. Actions need to be taken for it to come back. I have no idea what or if something is going on. Until some hard facts or news is brought forward I dont think anything will happen.

A group has contacted NCSoft and IS in the process of negotiating to buy the game. Several things make it a slow process and the main one is the game will be carrying NCSofts logo on it even after it is purchased. They don't want their name on a product that is run in an inferior way.

A second issue is distance - NCSoft is based in South Korea and much of the group is US based. So language, customs and time zones make it a harder deal to make.

I have shared more information with a few here on the boards that could be helpful going forward but for the most part it is a quiet effort - you don't see it plastered all over the MMO sites because the last effort was really not helped by all the pressures of publicity. This is a business deal - plain and simple and the people involved have a team, believe they can run the game and have members who worked on the game in the past. If writing letters to NCSoft and blowing a horn and making noise would help I would be shouting from the rooftops who and what is happening.

It won't help right now. Once the game is secured by all means start screaming and jumping up and down. I have committed to setting up a fan based publicity fund and effort once it is going. Until then I really am sorry that more can't be said. Tony V and I believe about 6 others know what is happening and they have graciously remained quiet as well.

To quote a famous scripture:

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Nice post, I have a savings account set up named COH for when that fund gets up and running  :)
I hope to see you all in game sooner or later!

Hey guys first post  :-\, Was playing Wildstar today and realized i just wasn't having fun i haven't enjoyed an MMO properly since 1 year, 6 months, and 13 days ago!. I miss City of Heroes. I really do hope something happens i know the chances are low but i would dive back in so fast, i would happily pay full subscription price over the many other MMo's out there currently.

Never is a long time. Folks managing NCSOFT change over time, we are hoping Ironwolf lit the fire under the right people and maybe just maybe the right person is there at NCSOFT to make a deal happen.

Lets wait for the game to come back first. :) Then I'm sure we will find out the details of our character data.

Does it count if I mocked up a bare-bones version of Wind Control in Mid's today so I could plan a few more builds? :D

Well, Google wasn't a thing when I was 14, so that can't have happened for me anyway.

I was thinking mainly so that they didn't have to read the whole thing. Honestly, even if you took out the non-topic stuff that people get all worked up about, it would still probably be 40 pages long. I was thinking a quick summation so that people who demand instant gratification can get it.

I realize we get off topic occasionally, but this is about as close as we can get right now to the community that used to haunt the forums and talk about the game. We don't stray for too long before it gets steered back. I'm sorry it annoys some but not so sorry that I won't continue to post even with no news.

That said, do you guys think it is possible that the new owners (assuming we get some) might consider opening the game to some modding? There is tremendous talent here and in the community. Imagine if you had a huge team developing for you for free! Sure a lot of it might not make the mark , but some surely would.

If so, what would you like to see added?

Probably the first thing I would do is either make a new mastermind or level up an old one because the closure made me realize how much I loved masterminds, and I can't find a similar class anywhere.

I prefer the song   ;)

I don't. They thought Scripture was good enough to quote (as long as IT agreed with THEM), but then they cherry-picked, and left out a part that they decided was wrong...one that didn't support their message: the part that says that there is "a time for war". They skipped right over those words, and then decided to insert the only rhyme in the whole song. If they expected the listener to believe what Ecclesiastes says, then they should have believed it, too...all of it.

Sorry for the rant, but that dishonesty has long been an irritant to me.

There's something that I've mentioned before, that I'd like to see rolled back. Get rid of Matthew Habashy and his Champions-style, single-track mission path, and bring back the origin contacts. Greater mission variety at the start, for those of us who ENJOY our alt-itis. :)
