I will say that if the char. data isn't there with the sale of CoH, I'm not sure I'd play to be honest.  I'd probably play but, I don't know...ugh..depends if my other Liberty peeps/SG mates play because I don't want to start all over.  *shrugs*  I'm not sure if I have the time (or I should say, "I shouldn't be playing games all the time again") to play even if I got all characters back with no loss of anything.

Hi Ion. At least one will be playing, and I'll probably bring in my brother again, and now wife (and soon the kids will be allowed to play).

The way I look at it, it will be less of a soloing game for me and more of a family activity rather than all watching something on TV in the evening. More constructive, better for learning to communicate, learning teamwork, etc. I'll definitely have less time to play, not that I played all that much back with the Legion, but I'll definitely make sure to get some playing in to play with She Who Must Be Obeyed and the Progeny Units.

Hello all!

I haven't read everything here or know what's going on beyond CoH may be coming back?

*shrugs*  I think I'm just too tired now to really think....so...bed time it is!

Keep up the good work and maybe something awesome will happen!

Thanks again!

Hey Ion!!  Yes, a bunch of us Libertines will be back :)  You certainly won't be alone.

All they'd really need are instanced versions of each PvP zone; one with the old rules, and one with the new rules. That way everyone wins. More options always > less options.

That makes for a good soundbite but the reality of the situation would have been to further divide the already-small CoH PvP community.  Only 6 people in a given PvP zone to spar with?  Would've gone to 3 are in the pre-13 zone, 3 are in the post-13, and the whole thing collapses on itself.  Not too dissimilar to the problems that CoV brought to the game, when Villains first launched you've gotta remember we didn't have cross-faction teaming, if you logged in with your scrapper and your friends were all in Grandville, in this case the more options were to either switch away from what you wanted to play to another alt or you solo'd.    From a design perspective *fewer* options are often vastly superior to more.

I feel for ya, being a CoH PvPer was the definition of suffering.  In all fairness to the devs I believe they felt that 90% of all potential PvPers had already left the game (or never picked it up to begin with) when PvP didn't come online until so late, that the remaining PvPers were diehard *CoH* fans first and foremost and would hang around for whatever form of PvP was implemented, so might as well risk larger changes in trying to expand the PvP base rather than tiptoe around the topic in fear of running off a possibily-statistically trivial number of existing PvPers.  Not alot of lose, possibly alot to gain.  They rolled the dice, took their chances, and even a 95% chance of success results in that 1-in-20 failure rate.

Regarding PvP: I really enjoyed it, but was nearing the end of college when I13 came out, so I wasn't playing a lot. I would go back in to the PvP zones afterwards, and was always disappointed by how empty they were. They weren't super populous before, but afterwards there was just about no one there :( .

Of course, some zones were already dead. I remember when CoV first came out, my main hero was just at Bloody Bay's level, and there were a TON of awesome battles in there. Then I leveled up to Siren's Call, and by the time I went back to have some fun in BB, it was reduced to people farming for Shivans (if that).

I wonder if I can find my old thread on the archived forums of "Arcs That Would Be Great If They Were Overhauled."

A question in the Lore AMA indicates that the lower arcs would have been redone, at some point: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted#305
I used CIT before they even joined the Titan network! But then I left for a long ol' time, and came back. Now I edit the wiki.

I'm working on sorting the Lore AMAs so that questions are easily found and linked: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted Tell me what you think!

The waiting is driving me bonkers!  Even if it takes a few months to get up and running, I can handle that time.  But this waiting for a "Yes" or "No" is killing me!  Lol
Reminder: No game = No data, no characters...nothing.  However, no data/characters != No game.

A moderator lost his job over PVP was it the I13 one or was it later when he said the changes where not for the current PVP players; they where trying to get more of the COX playerbase to come pvp which they had no desire so instead of helping PVP they lost more subs and pvp was even more of a baron wasteland than it was.

I'm officially calling "Baron Wasteland" as a character name for a Rad/Rad brute if we ever get the powersets. :)

Yeah this is the problem. If we know it's definitely just a matter of time then we can plan and get excited and celebrate. Until we get that "Yes" there is always the danger of it being "No".

NICE!  I'd love to see the Rad sets (since I was at the Players Summit that helped design them!) but more than that, if they can develop past I24, I want the new Power Pools like Gadgets and Utility Belt...

Unlike the SSA and Incarnate TFs, the content will be there whether you pay a sub or not. Come visit once in a while, ok?

As I recall just about every contact and mission I ran into when I tried CO had a price tag on it trying to sell me something or let me complete the mission for real money.  Sure the content was there without a sub, but that game was obnoxious with price tags...

Also the SSA and Incarnate TFs were a very small percentage of the games content so it's not like you had nothing to do if you didn't sub.

Yeah, the waiting, hoping, is hard.

The waiting IS hard. But at least it's not a definite no. So we can still cling to hope :)

Well you can look at it slightly differently - it isn't a yes or no that we are looking for right now, we are already given a tentitive yes, or the talks would be over. What is happening is the yes, but we want to see this.........on both sides. If you think about it - if NCSoft was not interested in selling it - then the talks would not have gone through to conditions of sale. It would not be sitting in the hands of the last guy working out the final conditions. Personally I am extremely impressed that this has been moving forward this quickly.

The bold comments are direct communications from the team. I have edited them slightly to remove names and such.

Timeline:
March 6 - I get the information and start working on a way to possibly open source CoH.
March 12 - got letter back from Chris Chung - it showed that is WAS possible to buy the game.
March 13 - the team makes its first contact with me and says this: You are an evil, evil man. I'd given up hope after learning of the tax issue. Now here I am now grinning from ear to ear. Likely going to lead to heartbreak, but damned the torpedos. Full speed ahead.
March 21 - Honestly, we had given up hope. Now, you've given us hope, so we're discussing it.
March 28 - We have been reaching out and putting the proposal together. The concern has been the "Golden Handcuffs" option, being shackled to NCSoft again and having the sword of damocles once again hanging over our heads but this time knowing it is there.
April 5 - Made some headway. Now we know who we need to talk to, and a general idea of price. It is very doable.
April 16 - At the end we'll announce it one way or the other. For now it is just this silly business dance in order to reach [Redacted contact] :)
April 18 - Second studio expresses interest in the game
April 21 - investor expresses interest and is passed to the team
May 1 - third studio expresses interest in the game.
May 21 - I ask how the talks are going and if they are making the team jump through hoops: Stupid. Stupid amounts of hoops, as far as I know.
June 19 - Slow but not dead. Not a big deal, we were focusing on August anyhow.
June 24 - former paragon Dev contacts me and is forwarded to the team
July 3 - Yesterday, we were directed to the man whose signature is needed.
July 3 - after MY reading WAAAY too much into the first message - Er... we're not days away from anything. We're just now in direct contact, which means we're past another hurdle. We still have at least two months of negotiations left ahead of us, at best. This is where the monsters truly do lie.
July 7 - another investor/studio contacts me and is forwarded to the team

That is the basic timeline. I have had people asking for jobs - a contact from a game site and other questions and such but this is the nuts and bolts of what has happened. I have also been able to read into the situation more because of comments on the board (not just in this thread) from members of the team, even before the purchase effort - what they would like to see from the game. This makes it pretty easy for me to see what kind of people they were and what they want. I don't have a further update but this might help tie you over for a while as to what is happening and to understand in business circles - this is incredibly fast.
