I could live with re-creating characters.  But if I lost all of the purchased costume packs, etc...  that would be a deal breaker for me as far
as returning to the game.

In a way, I agree with this statement, and another I will disagree with it.

Agree - I will be highly upset with NC Soft for losing all this information. Whenever someone buys a program from them, they should supply all the account information or allow players to transfer the information to the new server(s). If it's unavailable, I will blame NC Soft and will continue to boycott their company. If they make it available for transfer, then I will purchase something from them even if I never play it.

Disagree - I will only blame the people who buy the game if they don't accept the account information and force you to start from scratch.

I really won't mind too much starting all my characters from level 1 (everyone starts with a clean slate). However, the purchased items should be included with the sale. At least the record of what you purchased (games like CoH CD edition, character slots, etc.), how many Merits (the things you slot to unlock stuff) you earned, etc.  I had 2 accounts, one that had all the merits slotted and several left over (this was my main account), and the second I think was around tier 3.

P.S. Tomorrow, I will purchase tickets for Powerball or Mega-Millions (whichever is greater jackpot). If I win, I will buy CoX from NC Soft.

It's called extortion. I also refuse this. A few posts above I mentioned selling an in game cape or t shirt. I first thought of this when someone suggested paying for our data a ways back. If they want money right away give us something to buy that we would want, but not our data!

I would be willing to pay a fee that's not exorbitant..in my mind its a processing fee and it supports the game.. I would rather they create the option to pay a particular fee (within an amount of time prior to or shortly after launch)  to have my account restored, than to spend the time attempting to restore every account that ever existed over the course of 8 years just in case that person comes back.. and many will not..

I'd sub, I'd re-buy the game, but I refuse to re-buy what I already bought in terms of costumes and powers.

And losing out on the powers and costume packs I bought may just be a deal breaker.  Probably not, but maybe.

If I lose everything else, that's fine, but I'd expect all of the powers and costumes that were available at close to be part of the basic game at re-launch.  If they want to make new stuff to charge for, awesome, I'd buy it, but I would consider it bad form to make us re-buy stuff they had no part in creating.

Also, I'd be a little pissed if they charged us money to re-acquire our account and character info.  That's like preying on the grieving in my book.

If the buyers can't get any account or transaction data, they have no way to prove you have ever paid for anything other than your word. If you were to take that kind of situation to court, the judge would bust a gut laughing. Unless you still have the e-mailed receipts, you would have absolutely no evidence that you ever bought anything from NCsoft, and instead of taking them to court you are taking a completely different company to court. Legally it holds no water at all.

You are demanding items you bought from one company to be honored by a completely different company. That would be like going to Ford, buying a car with a warranty, then taking it to a GM dealer and expecting them to service the car for free because you have a warranty with Ford. The buyers are not NCsoft. You want your stuff back, if the game comes back complain to NCsoft and demand they give you your stuff back. I wish you luck with the attempt.

Every time I hear someone say "I won't play unless I get items I paid for back", I can't help hearing "I want my stuff back more than I want the game back". Personally, I want the game back and screw the stuff. Anything I have to rebuy is more money in the pockets of the new devs. I have to buy all the costume packs I paid for? Ok, that's more money that keeps the servers running just that little bit longer. I have to buy the powersets again? Ok, that's another day that I get to spend in the city I love. I really hope there are more people out there who want the game back, than people who want their stuff back, otherwise if the deal goes through this could be a very short revival....

If it works out that they can restore our account on an individual basis rather than a global restore I might warm up to it. I'm not an programmer or admin, so I'll have to ask for clarification. I just don't think it should be a money grab. I still think they should have to attach a rebirth or second coming badge to it :)

If it is possible to pay a nominal fee to sort through the game data and get our characters back I would happily pay for someone's time to do so. Even with a huge server merge it could still be done by handing out rename tokens and server transfer tokens for returning characters. I know some people would hate it, but I could live with it. I was on Liberty and I'm pretty sure that one wouldn't make the cut.

I would miss my SG's but I stripped them of all goodies and held them on my characters, thinking that even with private servers and Sentinel+ that was the most likely path back for them.

Let's just wait and hope, mainly because that is all we can do.

Wait, most of us on the side of "we want our stuff back" are saying, if it's possible "yes please" if it's not doable, still gonna play. Not a total deal breaker. I've said this more than once. You seem to be trying to tell us to STFU. We all have our voice in this. If it can be worked out to get our characters back, in all their glory , yay for us, if not we'll move on. Just don't expect us give it up!

That's why I suggest the sub-only idea for a 3 months or so - it's basically a 15-45 dollars charge for the game, but presented in a way that'd probably feel acceptable to most players.

Just ruling from "odds," I'd have to say that since the effort started, we have no idea whether or not their efforts are even still going, have failed, or even have halted because all "members" simultaneously had a heart attack. There's no way of knowing. And, until something even remotely resembling an "effort" of any kind is revealed, even I could jump on the boards at some point and claim to be "the leader of SCoRE." Anyone could jump on anywhere at any time and say "I have figured out the cure for cancer," but until you actually prove it, you're just some dude being a d**k on the internet. At least SEGS have something to show for their effort, but their effort has been ongoing since before the game was shut down. Do you really think another reverse engineer effort is going to accomplish what SEGS hasn't in 1/1000th the time? What do they have? A small country working non-stop in a huge basement somewhere alongside the kids making sneakers?

What we're saying is, that if it were possible to acquire character data, as part of the assets, why not do that for your player base. This is not a new game. The best bet is to get vets and long time players to come back. Screwing them out of money just because you think you have them by the short and curlies is not a good plan! The only way this game will come back is if those players pay. The new team knows they want the vets back. That's what this is all about!...................... Oh, and money.

I think it's too early to say yet.

If they were to bring COH back as it was, then I think you're mostly going to see Old Timers returning because of the age of the engine.

I think if it was ported into Unreal 4 you'd have the potential to do REALLY good business because you'd have over 8 years of content with some amazing powersets that just isn't available anywhere else.

I think if I were the buyers I'd be tempted to roll old the old game as soon as possible, and then work on an Unreal 4 version. Perhaps give it a new zone or two and maintain both games concurrently.

No, you have this completely wrong.

What I am mad about is NOT that a new company won't honor payments I made to a different company but rather I am mad that a second company would try to profit from transactions made to a FIRST company through no work of their own.

I don't expect any new buyer to honor contracts and purchase I made with someone else years ago, what I do expect is that they won't try to sell me a second time work that someone else did and they had nothing to do with.  It makes no sense to me that EVERYTHING in the game files and databases that they get from NC won't just be freely available to us as part of the new base game.  As I said in the above post, I have no issue with making purchases related to any work they might do with the game in the future, that's a whole different kettle of fish.

I would be SHOCKED if we have an influx of new players.  I would say a fair assessment might be a "trickle."  There are likely a lot of folks out there that meant to play the game at one point or another and missed their chance, a come-back may convince some of those folks to try it now they have the chance.  But, an "influx" is a little too charitable, methinks.
