Your conduct has been exemplary and extremely helpful. You have not promised anything, just kept us abreast of something ongoing and given us a reason to hope. No matter how simply you explain things, some confusion is inevitable as well as some frustrated or snarky replies from the jaded and embittered.

Thank you for bringing us hope Ironwolf.

Are we there yet?  ;D
I agree with this, I think we are getting abit restless.
I also know about snarkiness and jadedness of some players.

Can we stop and get something to eat? :D
One day the Phoenix will rise again.

I keep hearing about this, but have yet to see a thread or any other communication about what SCORE is exactly or what it stands for even.

I have personally attempted getting the client set up and logging in to their server, and the rubberbanding was soooooo bad that I was basically stuck in the same exact spot for 30 minutes before I gave up in frustration.

I applaud their effort (I admire the kind of knowledge and talent it takes to reverse engineer code), but it's got a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long way to go before there is ANY semblance of being able to actually play the game (i.e. fight NPCs/do missions)....And, this is not to mention the fact that their version of the game is one of the earliest released versions of City of Heroes....Meaning, if they actually DO get it running, it won't contain all the really cool stuff CoH contained when it got shut down (like, for example, my favorite archetype to play--the Warshade).

No, I think our best bet at this point is crossing our fingers and hoping this deal goes through so we can get the game back how we remember playing it last.

Well, I'm just happy at this point to have something to forward to. We may get out city back, we may not.

A few months ago there was nothing, now we have a hope. It may be a slim reed as some have said, but it is enough for now.

I have said many times that I just want to play City of Heroes again before I die. Looks like there is chance I may get to play for years to come.

So again, best of luck to you, team who is trying to buy the game. If you are ever in Houston, I'll treat you to a barbecue feast you won't believe.

Also, don't forget when/if we get back  in game to join the channel "Iron Titans" It will be a global for all the people who posted here and kept the fires of hope alive.

You're talking about SEGS, which is a different beast entirely.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

I haven't posted here in forever but I feel like I have to absolutely say thank you to everyone who is still trying to bring the game back (or make a new one). You people are absolutely amazing.

Just because it's impossible to achieve perfect balance doesn't mean that there shouldn't be an effort to maintain a reasonable level of balance. That's like saying that crime is never going to be fully eliminated so there's no point in fighting it.

I never said "perfect balance" :P
For some vocal PvPers in MMOs, reasonable balance isn't enough.

Nope, I dont know more than what is written on internet. What I read is that there was a deal going on at closure and that it was unsuccessfull. So if there was more than one party involved is it only possible that one is to blaim?

NCsoft was prepared to earn nothing from the shutdown - so if a buying party has offered even just a dollar for the game, then that still would have been more than NCsoft was expecting to get from the shutdown - the first buyout team wasn't at fault for the failure of the sale.

There would be no way to make drastic changes without a lot of development time. It won't open any different than what it closed apart from maybe I24 going live.

Even the name for I24 works ;)

You'll just have to live with the fact some folks (myself included) won't support NCSOFT for the way it was handled. Perhaps they could have spent more time dealing with the community and folks *might* have been more forgiving, but this is the problem when you run and hide.

Ah, ok... Well, if SCoRE doesn't have anything to show for what they've been working on, I can comfortably say that they're most likely even further behind than SEGS is....which still leads me to the same conclusion that this effort by the yet-to-be-named team to buy CoH is the best bet we have at the moment.

It's probably your -only- bet. Server emulators are difficult enough when you have client and servers running to intercept and interrogate. It's almost impossible when there are no live servers to analyse responses from. -Everything- you do has to be based on what the client sends out, and you pretty much have to guess the response.

SCoRE quite intentionally has "nothing to show" to you or anyone until they are done.  As folks speaking for them have said many times.  The S in SCoRE stands for Secret.

But, OF COURSE the best hope of getting the game back is a buy out effort that may be as little as 2 months from completion!!!!!  And if the new potential owners have a more tolerant view towards private emulators than NC's generally held position, then they're also the best hope for an early view of what SCoRE has been working on (including the possibility that SCoRE has a major crossover in membership with the new studio).

Yeah, its fine :) NCsoft does not have any game that I am interested in anyway right now. Just playing Marvel Heroes. Quick and fun. Defeat in masses.

When you said securing of assets, does this mean the buyers are getting the money together to make the actual purchase, or does it mean NCsoft is getting all of the software assets together to ensure they have everything the buyers want? Personally, I would assume the former, but someone on facebook thinks it's the latter so if any clarification is available it would be appreciated.

The people buying the game have the money or there would be no further talks.

So I guess that guy on Facebook was right.
That guy on Facebook must have been pretty smart, I guess.
And handsome.
I'll bet he's a wonderful person and anyone would be fabulously blessed just to know him and bask in the warmth of his wisdom

Or it could be what has been stated - that it is neither, and is instead negotiations.

I haven't seen any "folks speaking for them" hanging around. And thusly, "have said many times" is a false statement.

Just ruling from "odds," I'd have to say that since the effort started, we have no idea whether or not their efforts are even still going, have failed, or even have halted because all "members" simultaneously had a heart attack. There's no way of knowing. And, until something even remotely resembling an "effort" of any kind is revealed, even I could jump on the boards at some point and claim to be "the leader of SCoRE." Anyone could jump on anywhere at any time and say "I have figured out the cure for cancer," but until you actually prove it, you're just some dude being a d**k on the internet. At least SEGS have something to show for their effort, but their effort has been ongoing since before the game was shut down. Do you really think another reverse engineer effort is going to accomplish what SEGS hasn't in 1/1000th the time? What do they have? A small country working non-stop in a huge basement somewhere alongside the kids making sneakers?

I mean....It's possible, but....

...we don't know. ;)

So, yeah, anything BUT them is "our best bet." lol
