Personally I found the notion of making the respec trial difficult was like kicking someone when they're down.  In the early days when we didn't have anywhere near the accumulated knowledge of the powersets and powers we did during the later days of the game, it wasn't that hard for a player to take their character down a build path that was performance-handicapped.  Asking a group of such characters to complete a trial that was giving a team full of decent builds some difficulty almost came across as spiteful from the CoH dev team.  "yeah we'll give you a respec.. but you're going to pay for it!  bwah hah hah hah!"  That attitude might have been fine for players who were just wanting functionally-cosmetic changes to their characters but I don't think most players seeking a respec were doing it just to make minor changes, they had gone down a dead-end alley and needed a way back out.

Dunno how many trials I ran in the first few months on a character that I'd largely lucked out into a decent build at the time, trying to keep folks alive to get their respec token.

We built a team to do the respecs in our SG and we used to announce in global that we were running it - success guaranteed.

We never failed one. A lot of people were so happy with us for doing this - once we were close to failure. 2 fire tanks back to back everyone else wiped on the final wave and this was the Freaks Respec. We went from player to player collecting inspirations until they were out and then we fought until my friend died. I was alone fighting the last Freak slasher and he dies on my burn patch as he killed me - Boom success! We won the day with the entire team dead.

Awesome story!

We were the Triumphant Defenders supergroup on Triumph. I can't say I as a team member had a flawless record, but if you have a kinetic and a bubbler on your respec team, it wasn't heals, end, defense, recharge, or mezz protection that allowed for failure. Ah, bubbling the reactor core, what an exploit. Force bubble for the win! As a side note, have you witnessed the glory of two stormies defending the core on the floor? Or, get a storm, a dark, and a bubbler - MC Hammer mix (can't touch this).

Not to mention City of Heroes already had a Linux option.

WINE is quite the far cry from an actual port, though.

I remember calling out the numbers for WHERE they spawned on the catwalks up above the reactor. That was so fun, and quite intense. My Grav/FF (which I unfortunately hated) was ALWAYS welcome as I bubbled the team and kept the freaks from sapping away all our End. First time I did it was when a pug group asked me if I was happy with my power choices (I was not) so I joined and we won (barely). However, I thought I would get to pick a new powerset not just repack my powers. It was ok though as I made stupid mistakes like not taking Stamina or taking too many travel powers (first real toon, wanted to experience them all).

I have had one issue with War Thunder having no sound on the RTM build and for the life of me I cant figure out why it works half the time. Lineage 2 wont let me login either. It thinks windows 10 is a hacking tool. The Lineage 2 issue has me concerned cause it is also an NCsoft game from the same year I think. Yes I know they are different but blah blah...

Does Lineage 2 use one of those horrible anti-hack programs like gameguard?  If so, you're out of luck until theirs updates.

City of Heroes didn't use any of those programs.

My cousin's first tank had 3 leadership powers and 2 travel powers. He didn't hold aggro very well. My cousin thought that the tank should be the leader so he took leadership.

Yup.  Waiting to see if my theory about this thread reaching 1,000 pages is the milestone NCSoft is waiting for before they approved the deal, is correct.  It's as sound as any other theory put forth here.  :o

On my screen it says that we're at 377 pages. But, I upped my posts per page. I think I went for as close to 42 posts per page as I could get.

This is a random post to raise the page count. Do not read this post, it serves no purpose whatsoever. It is, in fact, completely pointless aside from raising the page count. If you have read this far, you have failed because with this time you could have also posted something entirely useless to raise the page count to 1000 so that we can get our beloved game back. Further delays are now solely upon you.
I can't think of anything clever to place here as I am currently over-caffeinated on very little sleep. All the cool people have a signature, so I will drop random text here trying to fit in.

Please be aware that posts of this nature may be considered an exploit and disregarded by the NCSoft employ in charge of watching this thread's page count and/or generally frowned upon by the internet milestone gods of your chosen pantheon.

IIRC my tanker had leadership powers as well. It was a 32.5% directional defense build, so Maneuvers gave a useful defense buff. Assault is nice since Tankers benefit from damage buffs due to their solid base damage (opposite of brutes). Can't remember whether I used Tactics or not, but Vengeance is nice to have if only for the LotG slot. Plus Elec Armor's endurance tools made the costs manage-able.

Only took them late in the build though.

Yeah, Elec armor got a lot of love near the end of the game (thank god). I really liked my Captain Marvel tank wannabe with his Super Strength. Problem I had as a tank was I didn't invest in his slotting like I should have. I had another tank look at my Mids build, and completely redid it. It gave me very nice Melee or S/L def numbers (can't remember now), somewhere in the low 30's IIRC. That was plenty to increase my survivability.

My absolute fav Tank build I made for a friend (Niko, miss you buddy). He was Invuln and did NOT like being hit with Psi attacks that hit for full damage. So he and I sat down one nite and made a decent Psi def/Res build that wasn't TOO pricey (he got lots of Purps to sell fortunately). I even remember when he tanked a TF for us that had a pretty heavy Psi dmg level in it and watching our (normally) main tank League leader say "Dam Niko, how are you taking those hits with Invuln?" He just laughed and said that he and I tweaked his originally build for Psi attacks. He wasn't particularly gimped and IIRC he even had a lot of +END/+Recov for some reason. He really liked it.

My favorite tanker build is an Elec/TW build I made recently and never got to play with, it has excellent coverage against everything and decent damage as well.

If the game does come back, it's a prime candidate for being my main character.

Spadra

My first character and main from launch to sunset was a fire/fire tank. I tried to have one of each archetype and my play style probably resulted in me being a more effective controller or corrupter but nothing made me feel quite like a hero as loading up the game as my grey skinned ancient armor claded alien Spadra. As the game progressed and the different nerfs and adjustments came I always felt they made Fire/Fire squishy. At the end (literally 5 months before sunset) I finally got my friend to a point he felt as survivable as a tank should. I always felt he had to be played more like a scrapper though. He relied on his buffs, recharge, PBAoE and in major battles his res. I always wondered if I should have remade him a brute. This was his build http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10121.0.html We are a long ways off from returning but if anyone has any input I think tinkering in mid's would be a fun distraction. Later all!

Invulnerable / strength tank set to jab endlessly on one target at a time.  Foot stomp as it recharged and otherwise taunt, provoke and eye beam every mob possible to keep the attention on her while the controller or blasters picked off the mobs.

For solo play bump up to +3 x6 and then sell all the loot to give away influence to new people.

I had a fire fire tank that wasn't squishy, but I felt it wasn't quite as effective as my inv/ss "Superman" tank, or quite as destructive as my ss/fire and fire/fire brutes.   Not saying that fire/fire tank is bad, it is a nice combo for a tank.
