Wasn't EL (and keep in mind, I don't have an issue with atheism as an outlook on life) one of those folks who took the 'atheist extremist' standpoint and then started treating SaveCoH as a religious cult? As in believing in a deity = believing in a fairy-tale = having hope... for ANYTHING that has a low probability = you're an idiot and Darwin should remove you from the Earth?
I mentioned this in another thread, ironically just before Evil1 started spewing stuff... that in the past 6 months, I've been seeing this trend building where hope for ANYTHING 'unlikely' (e.g. world peace) is looked at no differently than worship of the 'Discworld turtle'. The anti-Titan crowd on the official NC forums even openly admitted that social ridicule (making fun of people for having such hope) was a justified tool for achieving behavioral change.
In other words: If someone is doing something you don't like, bully them until they stop. Which is funny, since this is what they were accusing Titan of doing.
Gah got carried away. No one have to read it all. Each paragraph mostly focus on a different point. Find a point that suits you and stick to it. Sorry.
1)-Basically I missed it on the old forum
2) It happened on both sides.
3) Someone must reach out towards the middle
4)Looking at it straight in the middle (at least trying to)
5)The days and misunderstanding
6)We must come together in this battle.
1: My sight yet I'm Blind-
I don't recall seeing anyone saying that about social bullying but probably missed it as it seems a lot of threads were getting nuked when hitstreak could keep up. And wouldn't doubt that stuff was said. Man, I still feel sorry for that guy having to put up with the stuff that went on in the final days.
2: Gunshots from both sides-
Although I didn't see anyone say that social bullying was the purpose I did see a bit of social bullying or attempt at it coming from both sides. That saddened me the most. It was like the community turned on each other and while accusing each side of using unsavory tactics neither side was using proper tactics and both crossed the line bit. Although one side more than another but in a neutral view, if one side was to accuse the side of using a tactic then they should make sure their side have not used the tactic at all. Even if one side only did it once and the other 4million times both sides still used the unsavory tactic.
3: Someone has to cease fire and hold out their hand for any chance of peace-
The point being especially at the time, no one is perfect, emotions were high but wished that both sides could have quieted down a bit and less focus on personal attacks and personal view of particular people and listened to each other like sane adults. That is an ideal dream in my head but now still I hope one day we can get past this personal anger at each other and those that hate Titan can let go of the hate and realize we all want coh back or a game of its like to play. I wish for the community back the way it was were the biggest arguments were about who pwned who and which build was better. I wish one day we all can look back at those crazy final months and laugh about it together in coh again. That is my dream.
4: It all cons Gray-
I think and not trying to be biased st all nor insult anyone but I think Titan as a whole have made strides towards reaching out. But in order for it to work it works both ways. Maybe they don't understand us. Maybe they feel everytime they express that "misunderstanding" they feel they get jumped on instead of someone trying to understand them. I think I just thought of a way I can help here. Maybe I can listen to what they have to say with no judgement at all of whether they are right or wrong and see what are the bare bones of what they want and see if they can help reach that goal and ours at the same time. Through all the nonsense it seems the most common factor is that we wish coh was here. The disagreement seems to be rooted in how about to do it or how much should be feelings vs pure facts and logic vs chance and hope vs long run endurance to stick with it. But the goal is the same in most cases. More dream hopefully I didn't cross into the tldr section. Just an abstract idea I thought I would run past y'all. If its dumb as hell feel free to tell me. No offense will be taken.
5:-Remember when...
If you notice 90% of disagreements start with a simple misunderstanding. I'm not sure about anyone else but even here, there have been times when I get carried away towards another person thinking they are coming at me wrong only to go back a couple of days later and say "dang I'm a fool. They wasnt trying to be mean, they were talking about the same stuff I was but in a different way." or "hmm now tha tI think about it, that is a good point. A different way of looking at it but very true." or even more often. "Dang only if I just shut up and listened instead of focusing on a come back I would have seen the point a long time ago and all of this butting of heads would have been deadened with a simple "Can you clarify?" instead of me jumping to conclusions like a noob." Those are true thoughts I had at times. Like I said a couple of times I'm not perfect in any manner and try to not pretend so. I'm just a normal dude with a normal life with a normal set of skills with a normal way of thinking with a normal life, although very enjoyable life I cant lie about that, but still the point is I'm human like anyone else. Although I try to remember that when other speak of course they may not share my perspective, over all they really cant because no two people go down the same life path and thus each view depending on what they seen heard experienced in the past will affect how they view things. Even sometimes I forget, maybe too much. Yet looking at those times I was a fool or rather exhibited foolish behavior it seems that it stemmed usually from some minor disagreement that just grew out of proportion. Now mind you it may be very well that some of them might be lost causes especially the more extreme ones like my friend over there at this point but I think maybe we could give them that choice instead of feeding into that hate with more hate towards them. Ok, hate is strong word too strong for this case, probably more like snark but I'm going to call it like I see it, some of those responses from people here did seem a bit purposely snarky. Not saying it wrong at all now, because outside looking at it, and if I didnt know her, hell I probably would have thought she was nuts and replied just as much if not worse than many of you there. But at the same time, I think with many destractors maybe including or excluding E., I think at least outside here we can try to understand the other side. Even if it's meant to be forever enemies, even then, always understand your enemies. When you do that, you can either make them your friend, or defeat them. But you cant befriend nor defeat an enemy with no understanding. :PUnless you just drop a nuke on them and call it a day
But seeing how we have no nukes, we should understand them and their workign whether it's E. whether it's NCSoft whether it's some other nutcase that will shoot every last one of us if they seen us or osmeone on the fence or someone that want to join but think the crazy people run the joint (not true), or dont have no wish to join us but want COH just as bad. We can be powerful but the oldest tactic in the book is divide and conqour. As long as we remain divided the easier it is for us to defeat and face utter failure.
6: We are allies, brothers/sisters in arms. Let us not let simple differences divide us!-
If nothing is taken from this long ramble(followed by a long ramble
) it's this should be taken. We mostly all have one common goal or set of goals, get coh back, get them to sell IP, create a game to replace COH, show the industry we are not goign to take this crap, gain a place for the community that was like COH, destroy NCSoft etc. Most ex-COXers fit one of those goals and we have a place for them tocome together but we have to seem more welcoming and being drawn out by unicorns or E. into showing our bad side wont help. I read teh comments there and really although she is the most vocal she isnt the only one that isnt too keen on Titan. And also reading the comments, it would seem that most want COX back. Lets not let a measure hope hope stand in the way. Even if it has to be put in a way like, alright no hope you have of theg ame coming back? Ok that is ok but how about something you find reasonable you can do. How about writing or telling people about the closing and what happened. Or how about writing and sharing the good times that you did have? Or even if they have no hope for COH coming back maybe they have hope in the new projects and waiting to share what they like to see in a game. We know we have all of that here but we dont seem to remind people much that it's all here.
Too many "Well you dont have hope for the game returning? Then YOU move on then." True, they may not have hope for the game returning but that doesnt mean they hope for nothing. We have so many projects and so many things we are doing that they may be bound to find something they can put their hope or logic or contriubution into. But telling them in the manner like that quote or coming off as such dont help our cause and contribute to the view that "Well that ranting lunatic E. was right. If you dont have hope for everything, then I'm not welcomed there. I have no hope for the game coming back but I want to help out with the projects but I'm not going there if they just going to talk to me like that. Screw Titan."
