On Dec 21, 2012, the greatest disaster imaginable happened. The worst thing happened that could have happened.

Everything stayed the same.

Who said anything about the Mayans predicting anything? Not *everything* you hear on the internet is true.

I heard it from a far more credible source than the internet: David Letterman
When you insult someone by calling them a "pig" or a "dog" you aren't maligning pigs and dogs everywhere.  The same is true of any term used as an insult.

This is true.  I was hoping we'd wind up with superpowers and either unmake the world through CoH-style PvP, or somehow create our own real-life Paragon City.

Hey, nobody seems to know this, but the origin of the act of "prophecy" didn't necessarily have anything to do with foretelling the future.

Kinda like how "terrific" means something good. What's that all about?

Most "prophecies" seem to come from a couple types of people - users of copious amounts of "sacramental" herbage of one or several varieties, or folks bordering on senility who have been wandering in extreme climates with little food and water for extended periods of time chatting with the denizens of their subconscious.

Maybe the world did end, and then got replaced by the current mess.  This has probably happened more than once.  I blame scientists.
Personally, I blame the Vogon's and their new hyperspace motorway.

Perhaps they had it all wrong. The Mayans were predicting the end of the world a few minutes into Dec. 1.

This. It also explains why all the little figures on the Mayan calendar were wearing capes.

Actually, first time I've heard about the end of the world wasn't on the internet, I was living in Mexico at the time and somehow it became the main conversation theme on a dinner with some friends. I honestly thought Mexican ppl would know anything about what Mayans said, seems they didn't (mockery emails about this whole end of the world business already sent to all of my friends who attended said dinner btw  ;D).

KEEP CALM. THE MAYANS WERE JUST COUNTING DOWN TO THE HOBBIT MOVIE.
