Nothing really exploitable on our end, but a couple people were inadvertently linking to avatars on compromised sites that tried to download malware to people's computers. So we just disabled them entirely to be on the safe side.

Ah, so good to actually be able to put my faceless helmet upon my posts.

Anyway, with the ability to link avatars from outside URLs gone, it's ended the thread of malicious outside code.  Avatar pics can't execute any malicious code from their home site when they're hosted here, since they have no connection to their home site any more.

As a positive side-effect, uploading and hosting your avatar here prevents accusations of bandwidth theft.

It also means that avatars can be scanned to ensure they are valid images,  And if necessary re-encoded.

If you read the announcement, you cannot link to just any random file, you actually have to upload it now, so that means that the only form of problems would be with Titan Network, and not the hosts of the website that you are linking to (for your avatar)

No, it is the Clan Symbol for City Gangrel (World of Darkness Roleplay game, owned by White Wolf/CCP Games). I chose this one over the *basic* version because I actually like the outlining of the image. Gangrel Independent all the way.
