superhero costumed trick-or-treaters

So I'm at my post passing out Halloween candy like
I've done every year for the last 10 years (when my youngest daughter
decided she didn't need me to go with her anymore).
Every year I count how many kids we get, because we live
in a very small town. This way I can plan next years candy
purchase accordingly.  Since I'm counting anyway, I decided
That I would also keep track of how many kids dressed
up as superheroes. I figure this can be a bit of a gauge as
to how deep the superhero mythology is embedded into
Western culture.

I expect an inflation of numbers by the Avengers release this summer, combined with the fact that it just came out on video/Netflix recently.

Well, since I'm unfortunately too old to go trick-or-treating(31 years old), I'll be dressing up as either a villain, or a Praetorian for handing out candy this year.  Even the Rogue Isles and Praetoria have to be represented too!  FOR THE EMPEROR!!!  I might stock up on energy drinks(calorie free Gatorade/Powerade), and call them Enriche. I'll also be counting the superheroes and arch villains who dress up this year to come by my house.

Sadly, a disappointing turn out so far for ALL trick-or-treaters.
Only 38 kids so far this year. Had twice as many by this time
last year. And only supers have been 2 Spidermen & a Batman.

I'm going to a "trunk-or-treat" event at the church with my girlfriend tonight. I'll be wearing my normal winter-wear, despite it probably being too warm. Because a black cloak is still decent Halloween-wear. ^_^

I feel bad that we couldn't go ToTing this year, I didn't buy candy for the other kids because I wouldn't have been there to hand it out..heh  well the weather decided to be too wet for my daughter to bother going, so in fairness neither kid went.  (She does NOT like the feel of wet clothes on her..she goes out of her mind with sensory overload..love Autism) It was a last minute decision so I couldn't hit up Wally to get the treats for the other kids..so I'm hiding in my house in shame hoping no one slashes my car tires or TP's my house.

Thanks to a surge led by my cousin's preschool/afterschool
daycare bunch, I'm up to 80 kids. 2 more Spidermen and another Batman,
and a Wolverine. Then there was my personal favorite,Wolverine
kids little brother. He was wearing a Green Bay Packers uniform
and helmet, plus Wolverine claws. I asked him if he was Clay
Matthews, he said "no, Wolverine is a Green Bay Packers fan!"
I've also just had a Thor, who has always been my favorite comic
book character.

I live in a town of a little under 1,200 people in Southcentral Wisconsin.
Rural dairy farming community. We finished with 121 kids,
including 13 heroes. The last 2 were my 7 year old niece and
5 year old nephew (Supergirl & Superboy, respectively) .
The 121 TorT'ers is probably every kid in town.

That's actually pretty cool!  One of the nice things about living in a small town.   :)

Akron's funny in that they do the trick-or-treating on the fourth Saturday of October every year rather than on the 31st, so I handed out candy on Saturday.  I handed out 420 full-sized candy bars in 100 minutes.

Halloween is for me what holidays like Christmas are for a lot of other people.  I don't put anywhere near as many decorations and lights up at Christmas.  And I certainly don't have spooky sounds playing through speakers set in all the windows of my house on Christmas, either.  (This year's sounds courtesy - in part - of Dark Astoria, Night Ward, and every cave map you've ever been on in CoH.)

And in the spirit of saving CoH, my costume this year was a rough approximation of one of my main character's outfits.  :)

We did a party at our home in Maryland near Washington, DC.  At the party one spider-man, one bat-girl, two iron-men.  I then went with group of parents and ToT'ers (about 20 children).  We scared a few houses with our flashmob but after about 30 minutes the youngest got tired and we continued on for 60 minutes more.
My wife stays home and she mentioned not many ToT'ers coming by this year.  I think last year around 45-55 children.

I had to miss Halloween this year because I'm out on a job interview.  (By the way, anyone wondering why I've been so quiet lately, particularly anyone who's sent me a PM, that's why.)

Most years, I wear my Halloween tie (Loony Tunes) if I teach on Halloween.  In other years, or in years when I have to do something too serious for that tie, I dress as my CoH character Joe Fedora instead.  It's perfect- I have the black shirt, red tie, white pants, trenchcoat, and fedora all as part of my regular wardrobe, and I even duplicate Joe's ghostly white-and-green complexion due to my own eerie paleness and perennial dark circles.  Unfortunately, interviews are way too serious even for that (any shirt color other than white is "too much," for instance, and the dinner conversation always consists entirely of politics, which I can't stand).  Also, I'm interviewing in a much smaller city than I'm used to and worried about keeping in touch with the real world, outside of law schools, something that I've always relied on CoH to do for me ... so I am depressed over the shutdown all over again.

On the other hand, I'm glad to hear everyone's giving out so much candy- I'm lucky to get two trick-or-treaters most years.
