I won't give NCSoft another penny nor will I ever play any of their games no matter how much my friends beg me to join.

That's my protest.

So they shouldn't expect a cake from you either.

I've been checking this thread regularly for the past two and a half years, the anxiety is killing me

depends on the type of cake I suppose.  But, you are correct.  I remember the story about sending capes to NCSoft's Korean headquarters in protest to game shutdown

Urinal cakes might work

Had a dream last night that the game was up and running. Then I woke up jumped on my computer and open the forum and reality slapped me in the face. Still waiting. The good news is maybe I will dream it again tonight.

Something tells me that cake might have been a more effective strategy than capes. I wonder..would reverse psychology have had a different result...

US: "NCSoft, you guys reek! You better just end that game!"
NCSoft: "We'll show you! Reset the servers and make these fools play with no updates forever!"

Afraid not.  They've be thrilled we finally "got the message" and let it die.  Sending Urinal cakes would just insult them.  But was is interesting is at least one of their current titles is nearly dead now.  WildStar pulled only 1.1 million in sales in Q1 2016.  Here's the article if anyone is interested:

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't City of Heroes/Villains doing better than that when they pulled the plug?

If they'd sent Hostess cupcakes we'd have gotten the game back immediately. If comics has taught us anything its' that no villain can resist the creamed filling.

We should  have  sent them some bottles  of bourbon. Asian  executives  love bourbon.

I prefer triplets, so I'd send them  Raspberry Zingers instead.

I wonder how they would have handled a shipment of porn...my understanding, limited it is, is that there are some who really are shameless in their appreciation of it.

Think we better stay with the safe and reasonably likely legal stuff.

Actually, I do remember Janet making it very clear she would go after any bank that did not comply with the Affordable Housing Act.  The point of the law was to make housing more affordable for lower-income Americans and those with a poor credit history.  It did this by minimizing the role of credit histories in lending decisions, loosening required debt-to-equity ratios to allow borrowers to make small or even no down payments and encouraged lenders to use floating or adjustable interest-rate mortgages including those with low 'teasers'.  And if lenders didn't do that, Janet would use the full force of the Justice Department to go after them.

Andrew Cuomo, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, made a number of decisions that plunged Fannie and Freddie into the subprime markets without any means of monitoring their increasingly risky investments.  He turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a sweetheart lender and legalized what a Federal judge has branded as kickbacks to brokers that fueled the sale of overpriced and unsupportable loans.

I've been on vacation and away for a while so this is much delayed, but if you are interested I found this study you might be interested in perusing.  I do not know if there is a valid refutation of its analysis out there because I haven't actually looked at a lot of academic literature about this recently.  It suggests that a focused statistical analysis doesn't support the causation that many assume must have occurred here.

Nyx Nought Nothing

It's sort of sad that i actually miss Joshex's occasional posts of absurd comic book science and physics as well as his truthy approach to general life advice. To be fair he never bothered to warn people that all of his suggestions and assertions should be taken with a slab of salt, so in some ways it's just as well. Still, the rebuttals that attempted to explain in clear, simple terms why his statements were fatally flawed tended to make for interesting reading even if they were more for the benefit of people reading his posts than him.

Not that the recent back and forth about economics hasn't been interesting and informative, but it lacks the whimsy and flights of fantasy, occasionally descending into gibbering incoherence, of his discussions.
So far so good. Onward and upward!

Interesting read though I don't agree with their conclusions.  But, it's all water under the bridge now and this thread has already changed directions.

Sometimes I wondered if he really didn't believe the things he said.  You know, trying to get a rise out of the rest of us.  Some of the things he said were so incredibly off the wall.

I suppose we could talk about something more colorful like the current election cycle.  Pretty sure that would get whimsy with plenty of flights of fantasy and gibbering incoherence.  On 2nd thought.  No.  Let's talk about puppies vs kittens.  I'd rather keep you guys and gals as friends.
