The only problem I had with trench coats was there wasn't an option to put an emblem on the back. That would have been nice.

Yeah, that would have been great.
We're almost there!  ;D

Drat!  I missed reply 20000 by like 25 or something.

Yes we want the game back.  Yes, we HAVE to be patience and not ask how's it going.
So, I'm waiting and making snarky remarks.

The Game Economy:

Dear Titan,

Seeing as I underestimated the costs of my tank to take 3 bil inf when it actually took 8 bil, I know that the CoX economy can be rough, so here's a guide that I follow when getting stuff like purples, PvP sets, rares etc from drops;

1: Waiting is the hardest part, if you put it up for the same price as everyone else or above such, you are going to have to wait a while typically up to a week, sometimes a month, that's a whole week where you wont have the inf that you wanted to use to build a toon! the WW and black market BOTH sell the oldest first when they are all the same price.
1a: Cheap stuff sells quicker! listing something for 10 to 20 mil less than others list it for will often get a buy with-in hours! versus weeks.

2: posterior hats are people too! : we all know a certain male appendage is going to buy up all the cheap stuff and relist it for higher, it really is a male appendage thing to do. To avoid it, make their profits small. figure in the listing cost for the current average list price in the market and add a less than 10 mil buffer to that then subtract this total from the current list price to find out what you can list yours as without it being bait for posterior hats.

3: when buying: Never buy stuff that is overpriced, you'll just end up legitimizing their price and starting a market frenzy. please remember that you can bid for stuff when it's not there or not there for that price, put in a good price and wait, there will be nice people who will remember a good price for that and slip it in, then you auto buy it if you're first in line.

4: Majority Rules: it's a fact of life, if most of us are selling stuff for low prices and most of us refuse to buy for high prices then the prices will predominantly be low.

5: But I want more money faster! : stop, and think about this; all that money in the market comes from hard work and long hours originally (raw inf means not earned from sales, but from straight out grinding and mission complete inf rewards) how hard is it to get 1 mil raw inf? how hard is it to get 10 mil raw inf? how about 50 mil raw inf? what about 100 mil raw inf? what about 1 bil raw inf? it takes a long long time, even farming with a good non-stop mish team in Pi will still take a long time to earn 1 bil inf. The money in the market doesn't come out of thin air you know, someone had to earn it. It's better for you and better for everyone else if prices are low, why? because it takes less time grinding to get what you and everyone else want done.

6: how much should I sell it for? what should the prices be?: simple and easy to calculate (at least this is how I'd like to do it but anything around these prices is good too);
6a: We Work By Hour ; how long on average does it take to get that /kind/ of recipe/inspiration etc.? ok now that you know that; how much inf can you typically earn by farming in the same amount of time? this is a fair price.
6b: supply and demand: if there's not much supply and alot of demand increase the price by up to 100% (depending on rarity) that's fair, if there's a lot of supply and not much demand decrease the price by around 10 to 50% that's fair too.

for example, I can get around 4 purples recipes every 12 hours farming missions, I'm not joking when the game comes back I'll post pictures with time stamps if need be, or do a silly long 12 hour video.

The average rate of getting this /kind/ of recipe is 1 per 3 hours of non-stop farming +4x8, where the average inf rate for the same time period is around 1k inf a second counting time in-between missions and time in-between groups when on a full team, this is 60k a minute and 3,600,000 an hour. the same payout for solo could be around 10 mil an hour. so the average is 6,800,000 per hour, at 3 hours that's 20,400,000 (plus listing fees). This is the base price for a purple recipe (for those purples that aren't as popular as other purples) but for the sake of ease no purple should cost more than 40,800,000 (20.4 mil +100%) (plus listing fees) that's double profits, or worth 6 hours of farming! long enough to do a Dr. Quarterfield! so have some mercy!

I don't expect people to follow this, and I know there's a lot of people reading this saying "yeah, that will never happen.", but for each person that tries, that makes it more likely of happening.

me, I always sell lower, I typically sell it for lower until I find the price that has the most normal bidders. For purples it was around 50 to 150 mil when the game was running (depending on what recipe it was). anything above that I typically went and got one myself. Hero/villain merits can buy purples or pvp recipies, I aim for the cheaper ones of a particular set, then just do a "random re-roll" to "convert it to another in the same set" that you need. did that for the gladiator proc etc. much quicker than saving up 3 bil IMO. I sell for lower so I get the profits quicker and don;t find myself with a purple in my inventory and a WW with all the slots taken by other purples. For every second it's sitting there unable to be put on WW you are losing 1k to 2k inf, remember that.

again this is what I do, you don;t have to do it if you don't agree with it. but it slots toons fast and makes people happy.

Its unclear what the impact of prestige conversion was because of the way the economy worked.  Influence tended to flow overall towards high end sellers (usually farmers of some kind), so there was some influence concentration at the top.  And those were also the "barely anyone" that was performing prestige conversion, that sink could have been destroying a lot of influence.

I'm also not sure the "barely anyone" was quite so small.  There were a small but not insignificant number of players with personal bases, and those players probably used prestige conversion.  Depending on base size and storage goals you could be looking at billions of inf per player per base converted to prestige.

I was one of those Inf to prestige converters. I had bases on every server I played on and 3 on Liberty. Sure, it was a terrible conversion rate but Inf was so easy to make if you used the market. I would buy in stacks of 5 recipes, craft one for me, one for the base and sell the other 3.

I wasn't even close to the richest marketeer. I had tens of billions (I usually kept it around 30) of inf and probably only burned about 3 billion on bases. I ran in SG mode all the time, but whenever I wanted to add something and didn't have the prestige for it, I converted Inf.

There really wasn't much to spend it on since I wanted slotting to pay for itself. I know a lot of people hated the market but it was so easy to use and so easy to make inf. I loved it and one of the things I worry about it whether it can make a comeback in a revived game. I hope so.

I had one of those high priced Purples once and sold it for 3 billion. I then asked any new startup SG's if they needed prestige?

I then converted 2 billion in Prestige and gave it to a couple groups - of course that meant I had to join their SG for a short time - transfer the Prestige and move on!

3 billion? This is why I never used purples in any of my builds :))

Codewalker

No purples ever sold for 3 billion, at least to anyone sane. Most tended to go for around 100-200m, though at times there were spikes of up to 500m for some of the more desirable ones.

The only IO I know of that regularly sold off-market for >2b was the Gladiator's Armor: +3% Defense PVP IO, which was actually orange, not purple. Even that could be had for 2 billion flat if you were patient and left a bid on the market, it just took a while. Typical off-market prices for it were around 2.25b-2.5b. If you paid 3b, you got ripped off, or you just really had to have it right this second.

Once Converters were a thing, the purple market sagged a bit, and the Glad Armor market crashed, as suddenly all the other PVP recipes that nobody wanted could be turned into them with some merits.

Interesting.  I was just getting into using 'Purples' by the end of the game.  Had my elec/elec Dominator build with 3 sets of purples in it.

I mostly sold the Miracle IO for about 80-100 million at Trident.  Managed to load up quite a bit of influence doing that.  It built my robust tank at about 1 Billion...and a flawed (no defence cap) but interesting Dominator at around 4.8 billion.

Playing the market and making IO builds was something I came later to.  I just enjoyed the 'SO' and pre-ED 'vibe' of City of Heroes.  It's what I always remember most fondly...my early forays into The Hollows, Steel and Talos(!) as well as the cold sweats of getting lost in Perez.

But I did get 'into' post-Ed stuff like IOs and I wouldn't be without my Elec/Elec Dominator with loads of pets.

Azrael.

PS.  I hope your 'relocation' is settling down into a form of sanity.

Vee

The Glad Armors were up to 3.5-4 billion for a while. I even sold one I'd made with h/v merits off market for 3. so it either took the market a while to catch up to their being easily made in (8 i think?) days or people weren't checking the market at all. Seeing as I emailed it to a freedom toon and sold it in AP broadcast I'd guess the latter.

I think the highest I ever saw a purple was 900m for some apoc pieces.

Noyjitat

I bought lots of purples and I didn't see purples drop down to 200mil or less until we got enhancement converters. Before that it was common to pay 400 - 800 mil for Armageddon's and Ragnarok's. The pvp defense and resist procs floated near 1.5 to 2 bil and the panacea set varied from time to time but most always ranged in the 300 - 600 mil with it's proc staying around the 1bil mark until converters of course.

Yeah, I always wanted to try an All-Troller or Troller/Defender TF myself. Really wanted to see what they could accomplish without the melee classes.
