So, this just crossed my mind, but are any of the original devs possibly coming back? Have any of them said if they would? Granted, most (if not all) of them have gone onto other things but I'd say it'd be really cool if the original devs provided at the very least, advice (and possibly help) to the group who'll be in charge of maintaining and updating CoH, provided the deal gets Green Lit and Approved...
Didn't matt miller just get fired from cryptic?

Considering the reaction to NCSoft and Paragon negotiations... I think a new crew is fine for running an image. Look to Miller with the successors if anything.

As for Miller's "firing": It's hard to see a project lead as a hired contractor but I think that's what happened.
Rejolt Industries LLC is now a thing. Woo!

There's a difference between being fired and being laid off.

Matt Miller and a large number of staff from Cryptic were laid off at once.

It says Nexon bought the stock in 2012. Wonder if that had anything to do with the shutdown?
Who knows? To be honest, I don't really care if Nexon was partly responsible for the shutdown, the only reason for that is because in the end, it was NCsoft's choice to pull the plug... Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if Nexon was indeed partly responsible but again, it was still NCsoft's choice to pull the plug.

Huh, I wonder what the reasoning was for laying Miller and all the staff off at once

But to lay off someone like Matt Miller? Seems a bit odd given the amount of experience he has under his belt

He was one of their most recent hires.

And Cryptic laid off around 18 people total.

It was right around the time that the bottom seemed to be falling out of the MMO Market. Studios were closing, having massive layoffs, etc.

Well, if they'd quit pumping out cookie-cutter dogpancake they wouldn't be having nearly as many problems. Fantasy genre with boob physics, anyone?
I can't think of anything clever to place here as I am currently over-caffeinated on very little sleep. All the cool people have a signature, so I will drop random text here trying to fit in.

I still find it funny that Cryptic sold the IP of CoH/CoV to NCsoft, then made Champions Online (which to me, sucks donkey balls) which is causing them to lose money... they really should've stayed with CoH/CoV... They would've made so much more money...

Speaking of Cryptic, they own the CoH/CoV game engine yes? I mean, they did lease the game engine to NCsoft, so where's Cryptic in all the negotiations? Don't they have a say in the deal due to CoH/CoV using the game engine they own?

Hopefully things will start to progress a little quicker now *fingers crossed*  ;)
To me the question isn't if COH comes back. The question real still remains. Is COT/COH coming back and what is the development time line? One, two, three years or more? The question  remains will COH ever come back? It would be too humiliating within the Korean culture for Nexon, Smexon , or any other Korean based company to participate in fixing  another Korean based company's major mistake. My opinion from spending so much time in such a culture 8)

For me the question is not IF CoH comes back..

Its how.. and when... and can I get my stuff  ;D

Well, they thought they were going to be making Marvel Online, so there's that.

But the question of the perpetual license is a good one.

I used CIT before they even joined the Titan network! But then I left for a long ol' time, and came back. Now I edit the wiki.

...did she? I don't know.

...looking now....

It looks like she did say that NCsoft got a license to use and modify the engine, but I would argue that the post I'm seeing doesn't necessarily cover what the license says in the event that NCsoft decides to sell the game. Are they allowed to transfer the license, or what?

Quote from: Arcana on October 16, 2015, 06:57:18 PM
When NCSoft took over the game, they bought all the IP associated with the game including the content.  The only thing they didn't buy outright was the game engine itself, for which they got a license to use and modify - probably because Cryptic didn't want to outright sell the engine because it contained technology they might have been using elsewhere, possibly just because it was something they wanted to retain ownership of.  The contracts involved would have stipulated that all of the content within City of Heroes at the time was part of the contract, and that all of the elements of the game engine as it existed at the time was part of the contract.  So how could Cryptic "hold back" anything?  Its not like the contracts would actually list all fifty million individual things in the game and Cryptic could sneakily withhold one.  In cases like this, the contract would explicitly state it covered *all* such elements that were a part of the game.

If they purchased a game without ironing out the contract such that they'd be able to sell it in turn then they need new lawyers.
