It was said in that quote, the game engine.
Oh... I'm a dork... How come Cryptic would never lose ownership of the Game Engine?

So, this just crossed my mind, but are any of the original devs possibly coming back? Have any of them said if they would? Granted, most (if not all) of them have gone onto other things but I'd say it'd be really cool if the original devs provided at the very least, advice (and possibly help) to the group who'll be in charge of maintaining and updating CoH, provided the deal gets Green Lit and Approved...

Even if we did know anything, which we don't, any speculation about original devs helping with the server image or APR would be putting the cart before the horse, the road and the invention of the wheel.

Tis is true.
Question for you Vee, did you come up with the whole "putting the cart before the horse, the road and the invention of the wheel."? Regardless, I like that, mind if I steal that from you? :P

(Also, so everyone reading this knows, I have a tendency to bounce from topic to topic as a byproduct of my ADHD, so I apologize to anyone who feels that I'm not listening to them, or that I don't care, that is not my intention at all)

I pulled it out of my head for the post, and it felt like i was coming up with it, but who can tell anymore. Would not surprise me in the least if it was from somewhere. Steal away - a great person once said something to the effect that good artists copy, great artists steal. and that great person was my buddy Steve.

Maintaining and updating?
The only things that could be updated would be databases, the pigg files. Powers, maybe mobs, etc. And I think that the format for the powers database is already out there, since it's clear that the Mid's database was basically converted directly from the game's files.
With the format available, assuming that it is, it should be possible to add new powers and such without needing the original devs. And what they would know better than outsiders is the source code, but that's not up for sale, just the compiled executable code.
So in the end, I think that within the community is already available what would be needed to "update" the game:
1: knowledge of the powers / powersets / mobs (maybe) file formats
and 2: people with enough game development and/or mathematical experience to be able to add new balanced powers/powersets, and/or update old powers.

What devs would help with the most (source code) is not going to be available.

I can't say for certain that the latest Nexon/NCSoft news is good news... but I'm fairly confident it's not bad news.

yeah, I stopped trying to let my talking work for me a few years back. That's when I realized how much of a nobody I am (at least until I make or do something of any value). kinda why I I'm so determined to finish my project, I am trying to accomplish something, if it were in CoX; an accolade. people will probably ignore/block me until I do something of value that they may want to try, and they'll end up hearing about it through other people who didn't block me. So in the end I'm not /that/ bothered, but I do get what you're saying and thankyou for your scrutiny.

We're just awesome like that, as I always ask people: What is normal? Normal is just an opinion, a perspective that's never going to be the same for any two people, maybe similar but never 100% the same

Well, I'd say it is good news due to the fact that even back in 2012, people thought Nexon and NCsoft = bad combo

So Nexon sold all its shares of stock in NCSoft.

Next question is "To whom?"  Did they go back to NCSoft, or to outside parties who might complicate matters further?

This is the same things I am wondering

That was my big question, too. Although...I feel if Nexon had sold, like, ALL of the shares they had with NCSoft to another third-party gaming company whom could potentially come in and implement another hostile take-over of NCSoft (much like what Nexon had tried doing) we would totally hear about it in the minimal press that has already leaked? Right? So far, everything has just been "Nexon and NCSoft's relationship is over and Nexon sold everything" - I'm somewhat confident that if it were a situation of "Nexon and NCSoft's relationship is over and Nexon sold everything to so-and-so" ...then they probably would have mentioned that already. I'm betting they just sold the stock to a bunch of different/random companies.

...Or is that a completely assumptive and asinine thing to say? You let me know :)

Also - not for nothing, but I actually think this is the best news we've heard in a while. Our chances of seeing the game re-released through Nexon was super bleak lol. I'd rather have the IP stay in NCSoft's grip then see it shot and buried with Nexon. Just saying.

It says it right in the article. It went back to one of the family members that run NCsoft.

EDIT: Oops. There was another link in the individual thread for it, and it says it there. I got the two articles mixed up:

With the infighting between Nexon and NCsoft over and done with, if that was the reason that the negotiations got sidelined, then NCsoft should be coming back to the negotiating team to resume negotiations as if they'd never been interrupted. Whether we find out that they've resumed depends on the terms of the NDA.

Good thing or bad thing, the breakup, at least there are less voices to listen to in the negotiation process.

It says Nexon bought the stock in 2012. Wonder if that had anything to do with the shutdown?
