New efforts!

Really awesome news! It makes sense that if the game will exist in maintenance mode without further development an incomplete i24 would be considered off the table (for now at least) I wonder if the market would be considered the same. For example power sets and costume sets that were purchasable through NC Soft. After playing around in Icon we know there were a few costume sets that were yet to be released and were not directly associated with i24. I would imagine if the game is in maintenance mode there is a chance the market would not be active (perhaps that content will just be available for all or perhaps not at all?) Either way any thoughts how they would handle that aspect of the game?

The question of the in-game store is quite a big one really, and not one that anyone can answer until the purchase is complete.

One would hope they'd be able to re-instate a functional store (they'd need the income!), but if not... Well, could be a problem...

@Irish_Girl:  I'm a SQL Server Developer DBA, if that becomes useful at some point in your efforts.

That and I'm really going to need the ability to bribe my way back up to Tier 9 and purchase purple IOs, as quickly as possible.

Trying to temper my excitement with realistic expectations as to time-to-launch and what we'll actually end up with. Being more-or-less retired now, I have lots of time, but am drawing a blank as to how I might be able to contribute to efforts being put forth by any of the teams. I fancy myself being able to write creatively, but I am not a tested writer. I have some hardware and software knowledge from my few years spent as tech support, but it's years out of date, and not backed up by any formal education. I have artistic ability, but it's largely untrained. (What have I been DOING with myself all these years!?) I guess I'd be only able to help with grunt work, and I'm sure I'm at the end of a very long line of similar folks wanting to help. Perhaps the next best step would be to contact each of the teams and see what areas they each feel they might need help in.

To that end, let me see if I have the scorecard right (in no particular order): Missing Worlds Media and City of Titans, Valiance Online, Heroes and Villains, CoX I23 in maintenance mode, and Atlas Park Revival. Please correct me where needed.

Oh, and as a player, I can easily see myself being involved in all 5 games. I'm starting today by skipping the cheese on my burger for lunch!  ;D

And I think this will hurt the comeback. Too many games IMO.

The Fifth Horseman

That's assuming all of them make it to release. Far from guaranteed. Also, reasonably sure that once you adopt APR, you will eventually cease using I23. So just four really.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Can't abide the bloody things.  If you're a 5 year old little girl, they're fine... But grown men?  Every single Brony needs their mancard confiscating!

Agreed!

And here I was starting to think I was the only CoHer that wasn't a My Little Pony fan.

I think you have misread the information posted. CoHi23 is not going to be up for just a few months....
Not to be argumentative, but I believe I read the post just fine.

First, they don't even have it yet - it *might* not be up at all...

<snip>

As a programmer in the computer industry (for 34 yrs) , and a server owner / game hoster, I had a
lengthy post on the (many) technical challenges of hosting a purely binary image of the game using
outdated server software along with corresponding issues with trying to run it on current OS's, but
realized that only a handful of folks would understand the technical issues, or be interested in discussing
them.

Instead, I'll offer my sincerest hopes that they can get I23 up and running, and that they're willing to
actually host and maintain it (as best as they can with a crippled installation) for years to come.

How long, and successful that will be, remains to be seen.

I agree you did misread it, actually. Downix's post doesn't give any sort of timeframe for availability of the maintenance server.

Not really an issue, as the COH servers already ran on "current" OSes, as in ones that are fully supported until at least 2020. Not the absolute latest, though they would probably run fine on that, but a great many admins have been avoiding that version like the plague in any event.

Power Arc X

I am just very happy that the games will be back at all. Would I rather have I24, yes I would but beggars can't be choosers. As for the successors I would play them if they kept the same combat and the reward/loot system (Need/Greed/Pass system sucks !!!!! Whoever created that needs to be stung up & quartered).

Waffles

I'll never quite fully understand the (Frankly) stupid mindset of "No characters? This game is gonna suck then!"

Yeah, sure the characters will be missed and all, but the audacity of going "THIS SUCKS! THIS GAME ISN'T WORTH MY TIME" is just laughable. As opposed to what? Not having the character at all. You know, because the game won't be online

It's not like it takes just a week of try-harding to reach 50, or anything like that.

Ironwolf

Or Waffles people could enjoy playing the game and get to 50 when you get there :)

That's my plan! I only had like 4 or 5 fities but lost of alts. I loved playing them all and I will recreate all of them (if I can) on Day One.

(May that blessed day be soon!)

Well, yeah, i'm going to take my time.

But if losing your characters is SUUUUUUUUUCH a big deal, it's not alot of effort to get them back.

IOs might be troublesome, but otherwise it's not too hard. :p

I'm actually even more hardcore than that.  I have an Excel spreadsheet of missions by zone, in order, that I take to match my character's background that make up their personal storyline, including notes on when to turn off XP and then turn it on again (to make sure I don't out-level specific contacts), as well as notes on what costumes to wear to at which point in time and which uniforms to wear for which Day Jobs.

Sure, be happy to.  :D

As soon as my revisions and updates are complete, that is.  Hopefully by this weekend.  I've been spending a lot of time the last few weeks shaking the dust off of my old CoH files.  Updating Mids builds, going through nearly 600 saved costumes and selecting/standardizing about 100 or so for future use (I'm still carefully creating some specific Day Job uniforms, like AE Greeter or City Representative), and updating/expanding my Excel Spreadsheet for missions by zone (warning: starts in Praetoria, not Blueside or Redside, if those are your preferences).

PM me your personal e-mail and I'll send you my standard docs when I'm done.  I can enclose carefully-crafted costume files as well, if you want.  Some of them (for groups that exist in-game) took me quite a while to get correct (color and style matching was sometimes tricky, but I'm as perfectionist as I can be).
