As to your second point, CO had a much more robust character creator didn't it?  Did that help them as a community?  Or was it the community that nurtured the creativity?

I dont know much about the nature of Champions Online community, which was the original point of departure of this discussion within a discussion - the positive nature of the CoH community.  Did CO have an unfriendly or unhelpful community?  I dont know.  I do know that CO launched into an already stressed and over tight MMO market, and was in direct competition with an already established supers MMO.

My point was that Ive always felt that the freedom of the character creator in CoH drew in and kept creative people, who in my experience tend to be more helpful and positive - which in turn helped establish the a positive community in CoH.  All that said, as I stressed before, the most important reason is that CoH predates WoW.

CoH's loot system was such a nice change of pace from the loot drama and DKP chore of the 800lb dragon game.

You're missing a couple of zeros, there. Most breeds of cattle can easily weigh in at 700 to 800 pounds. :D
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Squints, you had me at "pre i13 pvp". But really, those would all be great additions to RV, and really make things more interesting as well as active in that zone.

I'm really looking forward to the announcement should there be one. Didn't check for a week and everything goes crazy haha.

Ty I think I forgot was to add the other fault of CoX Zone PvP was they had more than 1 zone. This spread apart the people who actually pvp even thinner making zone pvp not fun at all.

Speaking of pre 13 pvp, wasn't the Arena not bound by the changes and didn't have the "diminishing returns"?

There was an option to have DR turned off, but the mez, no use of -speed, and you loose travel power when you get hit will still in post i13 pvp and there was no way to turn them off. Really sad too because we of the PvP community gave the devs a wish list on what would improve PvP. Castle took that list wiped it with his butt and gave us post i13 pvp

I foresee many a SG starting if the game comes back. I speculate that even IF our characters survived and returned from shutdown (keyword is IF), that groups and bases would still be gone.   If it were a choice between saving characters or bases, bases would have to go.

Now sure there would be some grumbling from those that put in hours and hours to build their base but such grumbling would pale before the fact that the game would be back.

Also a special limited time offer with the relaunch of when you start a new base you get 15 million prestige and the fusion generator badge would definitely chill any grumbling ;)

Relax everyone, just speculating and joking here.  Although such an offer regarding bases would be nice.....

Kinda wishing they could roll the game out to us one issue at a time like those who shall not be named did it the first time (but at a much accelerated pace).

Still sounds like the Arena was the place to PvP, at least you could shut down those stupid diminishing returns.   While I can't see any new owners reverting pvp to pre ish 13, perhaps they could tune up the arena, and also turn Bloody Bay and Siren Call into echoes and just leave Warburg and RV.?

Naturally the Arena was "the place" (well test server) where at the height of the PvP League, there was over ten teams from different servers completing in a organized fashion. DR was one annoyance that could be turned off, but the other stated where they completely nullify clarity, sb (basically the idea of being super) was too much. Also that the PvP community completely fell apart because proposed and idea and we in turn was not even in consideration and, they told us that we are "acceptable loss" they don't mind loosing our business (this was accidentally leaked by Lighthouse, a community GM that unfortunately got him canned for telling the truth.)

What you say about bloody bay and siren call would be a very nice idea. I would imagine the only reason why WB is kept up there was cause its a FFA zone. They just need to let anyone who is lvl 10 can join in the fight and be bumped up as a lvl 50 (take out the lvl 38 restriction on WB and bump that one up to 50 also.)

MM3squints

I think the biggest irony of Castle's PvP was to do away with FoTM and give any build a chance to win. Ironicly what in fact happened was make one FoTM pre i13 (Mind/Fire dom) the only FoTM to use for PvP. With the new system in place, no other builds had a chance against a well built Mind/Fire Dom (pre 13 there were many builds that could counter Mind/Fire Doms, not anymore due to how the mez system worked and how that affect offensive toggle drops)

Yeah I remember the Lighthouse fiasco and the leak about PVP changes.  Also I like your idea about Warburg, also you are right in that I do suggest retaining Warburg as it is a free fire zone, also optimal for pvp kill farming for fusion generator badge and the rep badges.

Bloody Bay and Siren Call as echoes could still be pvp, but are mainly to obtain the badges, and the shivan shards in BB

This is the first time I have heard of this, I'm glad Paragon listened to the players and not put it in. I play The Secret World and when I team I do not like the need or greed, because if you come across a nice blue gear and hit greed there is that one person who will always hit need.
I would think that would be a lag fest that would cause arguing, because you might get something they want so they send tells begging until you give it to them or you ignore them.
You must be in the wrong teams. In 2ish years, I've never encountered unnecessary [need]ing. More often, the people ask if they can [need] something, to which the usual reply is "If ya need it, need it." Also, if it's a nice drop you want to use, why aren't you [need]ing it?

That aside, the TSW community I've encountered is very reminiscent of the community I dealt with on Virtue and Champion. Friendly, helpful and mature. It's very rare that I've come across "that annoying noob", or full blown buttmelons.

honestly? I'd download it, level up to level 10 and play with the character creator.

It has a few things I'd love to see implemented in COH, like changing wing size/tail size, and a bit more flexibility with proportions.  You can play around with your hand size, arm size, leg size, etc, individually.  But it's because I have the option to modify the hips and leg accessories as well as clothing that I have these options at all. And it's really nice.  It's just that the cartoony models always kind of bothered me.  I''d rather be back in COH where my heart is, but then again the options of CO has somewhat spoiled me and I actually have to compromise somewhat with my character designs.  Isn't that odd?

There's also options for hips, legs, arm  accessories, as well as bracers.

My COH toon remade in CO has a little more of a tribal/modern look to him. I use pants, and a loin cloth with a fur belt to make him look a little more scruffy and fluffy given that he is an animal character.

Helmets, hats, head accessories, etc are all more diverse than in COX.

Just for the record, no kb hate at all from me, but I do personally prefer no kb. The god of kb has sensed this, and has since punished me. Here is an actual conversation between my 5 year old and myself a short while ago:

me: So, what powers do you want if the CoH servers come back?
my son: I want to shot lighting out of my hands
me: Ok, what else
my son: I want to fly
me: ok, anything else?
my son: I want to be able to make lightning clouds
me: <pauses briefly wincing in pain> ok... we can do that.

So, I'll be teaming with a 5 year old storm defender...
