Update from Robert, the announcement Monday will from the people who are buying the game. in a press release form.

I'll believe it when I either hear it fom Ironwolf, or when it actually happens.

SteveTheDwarf

This announcement seems really out of place, even more so with that massively article causing a call for news to quiet down.

Is the Pax Prime show a candidate for the announcement of CoH return?

*Shrug* It is awfully big coincidence that Missing Worlds Media reserved a vaguely defined 1 hour panel time slot to talk at dragon con this weekend though. They have a presence at PAX this year also I read.

I am assuming that there would have to be some talks with Nc Soft before such a huge announcement was made.. I am hoping some of the former devs are working to get the game back.. I am also hoping Jack Emmert has nothing to do with it..
Yeah...I appreciate his role in creating the game...but him being involved would take a couple of cheers out of my celebration.   I still remember how the atmosphere felt different to me after he left...in a positive way.

Over on Facebook, Robert DiGregorio posted some news to the group CoH Survivors. I thought that I would keep everyone in the loop. Here is what he said:

"  ***MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT***
I have learned today that the deal that has been talked about through Iron Wolf, that many have been saying is a hoax due to the lack of information.... Is actually 100% factual.
I cannot reveal the details that have been told of the deal, or give you a time line. I can however tell you this;
I had my doubts as many of you do. I was not going to take no for an answer and did my digging, poking and prodding... And stuck my nose where it probably did not belong.
Iron Wolf relented and gave me some information on who exactly is behind the deal, I have spoke with them at great lengths, and I have been told to tell you all to please be patient, and you will have some solid answers VERY SOON.
Again I assure you, this deal is NOT A HOAX, and IS moving forward as planned. "

In the comments section he posted this:

" Robert DiGregorio: You'll be hearing more on the 1st trust me "
" Robert DiGregorio: MONDAY.... stay tuned "
" Robert DiGregorio: Monday, an announcement will be made about the identity of those behind the deal to purchase CoH. They MAY also decide at that time to reveal the plan for when the deal goes through. "

Robert is correct.

Well! I've been away for a few days (birth of a child) and I come back to this! Very encouraging news. Very encouraging news, indeed. I've been called up for Jury Duty beginning on Tuesday, so hopefully, the news on Monday will make that time more bearable. I just hope Pauly Shore isn't there...

Just rediscovering this news since when I heard about it several months ago. Very exciting times!

The "who" would be really important if it was someone like Valve, Facebook, Microsoft, Sony, Apple, etc. That's when the "who" means more than just an interested party looking to make a purchase and it turns into a company wanting to restart the game for a new platform or IP. At least, that's how I read it.

This should be City of Heroes new motto:

The "who" has got me really curious, especially when I remember that NCSoft has had the mystery buyers proving their technical competence for the last several weeks. The chance of NCSoft asking this of an established studio seems slim, so that would seem to indicate "newcomers," for some value of "newcomers." I can't envision a scenario in which I'll be blown away by the revealing of the identity of the mystery buyers, especially if the mystery buyers are relative unknowns. Maybe my imagination isn't outta bed yet, tho...

I can't help thinking that it would be bad news if it was some huge company like those.

My mind immediately says, "That means it will close again at some point".

I'm hoping for a group that will keep the game open...for good.

I have been being human. New grand daughter born and a brother that on Tuesday just had a cancer removed (looks like they got it all) and so my world narrowed to just getting by each day.

Oh man have I been there, when things get so crazy that it takes everything you've got just to keep from falling to pieces. Not a pleasant experience. Congrats to the family, it's great to hear that the rough spots are starting to smooth out!

Regarding being around less lately, I'll tell you what I tell anyone who spends a lot of time on a hobby: your health and your family have to come first or you're doing it wrong.

And as for this "Monday" stuff... we've been waiting two years now for *something* to happen. So, true or not, Monday or not, we've more than proven that we can handle waiting. If it takes a bit more waiting, we can do that too. And if it does work out that's even better!

Unless it really IS Pauly Shore. I think the only good thing I could say about that would be "At least it's not Andy Dick."

We were invited, actually. The PAX panels are on Kick starter. The Dragoncon is more generalized.

Dal

Sweet, it's good to have a date. I can't wait for monday! It could be a big "NO!" awaiting to be thrown in our faces, but I don't care at this point. I just want to know where this is going.

Ironwolf

I think the date was revised or removed from his post.

The point to make an announcement at this point is that a number of people do know who is behind the attempt, sooner or later word will get out and it might be better to do it on your own schedule rather than some random site releasing the news. It is not still locked in stone as far as I know.

There was a significant number of people on Facebook and another website asked a "source" at NCSoft to confirm it and they said - no it wasn't happening. I perhaps in a moment of weakness due to all the other stuff on my plate - put Robert who has manned the COH Facebook page since the close down at least and likely from before that in on who was behind it. He also was in contact with other folks and just wanted confirmation of what myself and others had told him. He contacted the team and the rest is as you see it now.

I am a patient person and some are not so patient, I do understand that and so I applaud Robert for wanting the game back so badly. I don't get upset at people because they want to go home again.

My 1st thought would be that the buyers are somehow related to Paragon Studios but were not involved in the actual running of the game, like (HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE!!) Sean Fish or Zwillinger or someone.  But Rob's comments that it is a huge game-changer makes me think some names more famous but not MMO-related, like a celeb who secretively played the game etc...

My other comment is I highly doubt the buyers would be willing to step out from behind the curtain without NCSoft's OK.... especially this late in the endgame.  They aren't going to risk endangering the deal by a silly PR stunt... and with NC's hypersensitivity towards bad press surrounding CoX, I doubt they'd OK this unless the reveal can no longer potentially hurt them or the deal....

My new grand daughter Avelina Eve is doing very well and she may be out of the incubator as early as tomorrow. She was born at 4lb 1 oz. She lost a little weight as new borns usually do and dropped to 3lbs 13oz. Now however she is up to 3lb 15oz and has been off the c-pap machine for a week.

I just wanted to say that this is wonderful news, and I wish you and your family all the best. My niece was born early, and I know how hard it is on parents who want nothing more than to hold their new baby to have to wait and watch. You have big things on your mind right now, even if those big things are only 3 lb 15 oz, and we all understand that babies are more important than video games.

...um, right? :)

Assuming that the game comes back, I am guessing/speculating that the most likely outcome would be a complete account wipe with everyone starting from scratch (if only to avoid legal hassles of transferring account/payment data from NCSoft to the new caretakers).  I would also guess/speculate that all content would be available to monthly subscribers; again to create the easiest possible transition to the new caretakers.
Yes, this would be the easiest for the new owners. No baggage from the old. And, as it has been stated by others, according to the EULA NCSoft owns your characters. So the return of those is unlikely.

HOWEVER, I PAID NCSOFT FOR MY ACCOUNTS! I WANT THAT INFORMATION TRANSFERED TO THE NEW OWNERS! There are many things I paid for besides my Vet rewards. Costumes, Expansions (boxed and virtual), Character Slots, etc.... There needs to be some way to log in to your Master NCSoft account, and get a unique key-code (like the Key Codes you get when you bought something in a box or online). You give that key-code to the new owners and you get your account stuff back. From there, I don't know how difficult it will be attach the characters to the new accounts made with the new owners.

If the characters are lost, I feel it will be an understandable loss. If the account information is lost, then I will blame both NCSoft and the new owners. And I know that there are a lot of veterans that feel the same way!
My Reality:
#1 I love my wife!
#2 I miss CoX!
#3 Refer to rule #1!
#4 I seem to have an itch!

Why would you blame the new owners? They are getting the game back online. If account information is not there and the game is up, what difference dose it make. I ratter have the ability to play the game, then be mad and not play the game.

This mindset I don't understand in any way. The new owners have no power over what NCSoft provides. If NCSoft says we will only give you this for your money - then that is it.

How you could blame a new group for anything at this point is absolutely beyond comprehension.

They are spending considerable time and effort to get the game back - FOR YOU. I already said to the new Devs that people will be second guessing you and criticizing you on day one, right after they say - hey we got the the game! People will say well what took so long? What are you going to do? When are you going to nerf this power it is OP and so on..................

Be happy that someone loved this game enough to fight to try and get it so that you can have your home back. I am sorry but your statement is absurd. Please think things through.

You paid NCSoft, not the new owners. NCSoft may no longer own this game. I'm sorry, but I don't think we're entitled to it. If they do give us what we spent on the game, I really will applaud them, but I don't think they are obliged to do so.
