Interesting thought but I think that the Ancillary/Patron power pools do a sufficient job of blending out-of-archetype powers into a character.  Though more could certainly be added of course (i.e. pistols), and perhaps a fee like the one you are proposing could allow them to be unlocked earlier then level 35.

Let me see if I can put this in a different light.

If we have a group who decides to close a game based on decisions at the upper management level. They would do so based on a lot different reasoning than you would sell an older closed product on. To sell the product you want to know - is it a good price - will the game reflect on our company in a positive light - what future plans does the company that buys it have? Will they be just buying it and flipping it?

The people selling it can't be criticized for doing their job properly. What if they sell the game and the buyers start a big hate NCSoft rally? This is why the general public screaming from the mountains that they hate NCSoft on Facebook and in videos posted on Youtube - doesn't help us return the game. I really do understand the feelings and in the past I also said I won't buy another NCSoft game until they return CoH to service. That sentiment doesn't help with what is happening now. NCSoft is serious about selling it or it would not have gotten this far. The guy in charge of selling it is doing his due diligence.

Well said.

This is why this whole thing makes me nervous: how can these buyers, or ANY buyers hope to control the actions of the playerbase online? The simple truth is, that they cannot. Internet = large herd of cats.

The best way for NC to control the actions of the playerbase is to do something nice. Nice actions usually generate nice feedback. Our game coming back would be a thing that would make people HAPPY, not generate more hate for NCSoft. Is that not what they want, happy people? NCSoft's feedback/reputation is not the responsibility of the new buyers, it is the responsibility of NCSoft. I do hope they have the insight to realize this, and to take appropriate action.

Let me make myself exquisitely clear: The above is not an endorsement of ill behavior online. It is not a cattle-call for people to start bashing NCSoft. It is an acknowledgement of reality. I therefore do not want any PMs from moderators telling me stuff like [and I quote directly] "If you want to constantly badmouth NCsoft, the mystery folk involved, the rest of the community, or anything else, please do it in a different thread than this one." That is not what is happening here, and to claim that it is, is frankly delusional. I do not appreciate slander. [Quotation is not from Ironwolf, he is not the mod in question.]

I also realize that this is potentially massively game unbalancing (especially in PvP - which I hate). But that's not my problem. This is my dream!

You're right. It's not your problem. It is, however, the developers' problem, which is why they wouldn't do it. :)

I totally get what you're saying. The thing is this. From the time they made their decision to shutter the game, to the day they did, it never occurred to anyone to they might want to back the game up to preserve the data, given they had been in talks to sell it. I mean really, how many times could they have backed the data up in over 3 months. It's just silly. That doesn't seem very professional to me.
Not at all. This is negotiation for what they are willing to sell. They are going to try and get the maximum payout for the minimum handout. That's normal business. Conversely, the opposite side is looking for the maximum handout for the minimum payout.

It wasn't even an -indirect- response...

Sorry to bruise your ego, but you weren't anywhere in my thoughts at all when I posted that...  Hell, I don't even  know (or care) if you've been ranting at NCSoft or praising them from the highest heavens...

Whatever. I'll leave it there.

If the folks at NCSoft say - we give you the source code and everything including the keys to Positrons suit for $20 million and the buyers come back with - we will give you $500k for the Player characters and all the servers disk images.

They then try and meet in the middle. The buyers have to prove they can run the game. NCSoft will try and get the best deal they can and so will the buyers.

Well I'm still holding a torch and hoping we get the game back.

Just FYI, I just checked NCsoft's facebook page and saw that it's been 5 days since anyone posted anything about City of Heroes and it's been 12 days since anyone posted a whine/rant/demand about City of Heroes (the post 5 days ago was a blanket apology for our "spewing vitriol" in the past).

Interesting...  I guess people are getting the message!  Way to go!  :D

Considering the original game was developed at 7mil I hope it's on the lower end.

Agreed.  This would be a good opportunity for them (NCSoft) to get a little creative during the negotiations and include, in the terms of sale, a nice partnered marketing plan that would show them in a positive light during the relaunch.  Spin doctors and all

I'll be honest - just arrived home drunk, it's Friday night, and decided to look at this thread on ipad before sleepy time. Haven't read the last 6 pages just the current page.

Are people still rabbiting on about people posting mis-information or slagging off ncsoft on Facebook?
This topic has been going on for like 2 weeks now; the sooner people drop the topic the sooner it fades into obscurity.
Asking people not to talk about it is obviously just going to make people talk about it more: yes I see the irony with what I just did.

If the topic wasn't meant to be distributed online then it shouldn't have been publicised on a public forum.
