New efforts!

If what seems likely happens and we don't get our information back but do get the game back, I will likely create a few preplanned heroes, been in icon a lot lately, then level one of them to 50 pretty quick.  Sewer trials was great to get to at least 20 fast.  After I get a level 50 I'll likely take my time on the next few.  My weakness was always making too many alts.  I would come up with a concept and CoH had so many power sets I could always figure out a primary/secondary combo that would work for the theme.  Of course sometimes you get those combos which just seem to underperform but then other times you get a themed character that is just fun to play and you take it to 50 before you know it.

I think I had in excess of 70 characters spread across different servers before I went in a cleaned out the ones I didn't intend to play any more.  Of course, then I made more...

My alt-itis caused me to miss my goal of having 1 level 50 of each of the base 10 archetypes.  I was getting close near the end but still needed 3 more I think.  Stalker, Dominator and Brute I think though I had the last 2 in the 30's, the stalker never made it past 20.  I just couldn't get into that arch very well, though it could have been the power sets I chose.

Reverse for the order I want, but that's the order I need.

To anyone from NCSoft, I hold your company no ill will. I have only ever purchased two products from you, and one of those was as a direct result of already having City of Heroes. I am not "avoiding" your products, or "boycotting" them. By and large they hold little interest for me. What I can promise, though, is that I will guarantee the purchase of at least one NCSoft product by myself should you decide to sell City of Heroes under whatever terms you find acceptable to get the game launched again, with an expectation of no future sunsetting as a result of NCSoft's corporate decisions. I do not hold NCSoft responsible for the potential future action of another party.

This is nothing more or less than the promise of a City of Heroes fan that I will pay you money after a successful sale and relaunch of City of Heroes.

Step 1: Get the game back.

Step 2: Every challenge, every hardship, every concern, every fearful prayer for salvation: all are of secondary importance. Save something worth saving. We are heroes. This is what we do.
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.* FFM: I think you're mostly wise in this instance, apart from one part.

The game is absolutely paramount.  Much earlier on in the thread I did see some folks who were iffy about playing if the data wasn't there, but I find that truly silly.  Data or not, if the game isn't around...it just doesn't matter.

Exactly , it would be nice to have my 10 or more 50's back and one of them went away with 80 million credits. But They are gone have ben gone and I just want to play the game - I can get all the levels back. If I have a game .

Except for boycotting them until they sell CoH, and having bought GW1 before I knew about CoH, what this guy said.

As I've said before, my healers are meant to be dedicated healers. I take any power that'll help a teammate, and I've been complimented and praised by teams, after missions, for my work. I don't recall EVER being chewed out or kicked from a team for not attacking. Also, I find that, by not attacking, I draw a LOT less aggro, so I'm better able to keep working on the reason my healer's there: to keep you on your feet and in the fight.

That's the way I always played my healers.  My job is to keep you on your feet.  If I was only needed for the occasional heal I'd throw in an attack or two, but neither of my healers were built for attack.  I did get chewed out once.  The party split and I had to choose who to follow.   In that case I have a rule -- I follow the tank.

I can only talk from a scrapper point of view I played two /sr toons katana and dm/sr one back in the perma elude days

They added two things over time to /sr before it was ever ported to tankers. You passives provided a stacking scaling resistance buff as you lost health; been so long I forgot the % it is buried in some post in the scrapper forum dating back way into the past. Next they added resistance debuff to /sr they have the highest debuff resistance in the game as long as you took all toggles and passives and it is the easiest set to softcap. (Before the HO fix yea yea it was 10 years after the fact /shield could match the debuff resistance with enough recharge)

Now the scrapper forum was begging for the taunt aura the tankers and brutes got darn you Cryptic  :'(

Thanks for clarifying that, I only vaguely remembered reading patch notes once or twice mentioning changes like that for SR but couldn't remember the specifics. I honestly might not have noticed much of a difference by the time those changes were made because my SR Scrapper was already at 50 for quite a while. I bet they were very noticeable while leveling a fresh toon, probably more so on Tanks.

Yep, thats pretty much it. I did have Guild Wars and a couple of the expansions, but not Guild Wars 2.

Personally I've always felt that you just can't slot Gale with enough knockback. :)

Totally. I was a well traveled Stormy Defender. Knockback has lots of ancillary potential when used right. Corralling stray mobs, giving other squishies in danger a chance to make a break for it, protecting you're own dang self, etc. :)

Oddly, from all of the times I played an emp, the only time I got kicked off a team was for attacking.  :P

If a team kicks an empathy defender for attacking, then they were probably not people one wants to play with anyways.  My experience those were the ones who'd walk around in perma debt, cowered in fear at everything but malta operatives, complained all the time about other things, and generally believed empathy was the only powerset in the game :(.

Edited since I wasn't harsh enough on such a group.  Those jerks, raar.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

I had a mid-level Emp/Archery Def for a while and, generally, I stayed with the tank but I liked to fight too. And if anyone criticized me and tried to tell me how to play my character, they stopped getting healed and buffed. I tended to be all over the place though, even if someone was getting themselves into a pickle and drawing their own aggro, I tried to both keep them on their feet and fend off their attacker(s) until the Tank could get over to them.

Same pretty much went for Luna who was a Storm Summon/Energy Blast Def. She debuffs and attacks. Early on in the game's life, I typically didn't get team invites because I couldn't respond to the all important "heals plz" with much more than an occasional O2 Boost. Couldn't get it through their thick skulls that I was a debuffer and that's what I do best. I ended up keeping the Medicine Pool so I'd have an extra heal and a rez just to shut the tosspots up. I was going to respec it out several times but kept it even after everyone realized how cool Storm Summoning was on it's own... just to make hilarious timely rescues with Hurricane and Resuscitate in the middle of combat.  Push all the mobs back while debuffing their accuracy, rez dead teammate. They're happy and usually laughing at what just happened. Most don't expect it.

Someone once thought that Scrappers were meant for tanking because he had a Scrapper that was used as a damage dealing tank. Versatile, yes. Not what the scrapper is meant to do though  ;D ;D

My empathy/energy defender was one of the only characters I got to the upper 30s and just left there, because I got bored with him.  I pulled him out for events, to get badges, and never did much otherwise.  I just couldn't delete him, though, because his name was so awesome.*

There was one mission that I'll never forget with him, though, because it was one where I got to prevent a team wipe.  We were fighting Snaptooth et al. in the winter mission, and the team was (a) on average well below mission level (this is before the SSK system, when it was possible to have the team lead and mobs at 45 and everyone else on the team fighting at 35 - I don't think it was quite that bad, but everything on the map was deep purple to me...) and (b) taking so much damage as a result that my SO'd "healzzor" couldn't keep up.  So I stopped trying to heal, and used my 100% KD power to chain KD Snappy while everybody else killed him (and people I couldn't keep up because of LoS issues ran back from the hospital).  Snaptooth couldn't hurt anybody when he couldn't attack.

* He first donned a cape after his big audition for a "boy band" was disrupted by a gang of Hellions, ending his potential music career and forever leaving him "Outta Sync".  I couldn't let that go...

Tanking is jumping in first and attacking everything until everything either faceplants or you do.  That's how I played my scrapper :)  Actually that's how I played my controller too (although I considered Mass Confusion and Fulcrum shift a standard attack opening :D ...and he could stop the bad guys from hurting the good guys...just like a Tank!)

Well....

I had been VERY hesitant to do it, but I finally downloaded Icon.  I had been resisting it since the game was closed down and to be honest, I was beginning to lose hope.  But since Ironwolf started this effort, hope sparked anew...

I have been messing around with Icon, and found the new look for one of my characters.

I present the new design of Crystallum:

I've been remembering a really epic story someone told us on one of the in-CoX chat channels, about the early days of CoV (I think it was during the beta). I can't find what I copied & pasted from the chat, but it's too good to leave untold.

There was a group of about 30 masterminds, all working in concert, rolling across Siren's Call (I'm pretty sure it was), laying waste to the zone. The group of over 150 henchmen easily dispatched anyone who tried taking them on. I don't know how they managed to work as such a large team, but they seemed unstoppable. That is, until a group of controllers met them in the middle of the zone...and confused the henchmen.

I SO would have paid to enjoy watching that!

But nowhere in this long discussion did we consider the alternative... everybody get's their characters back, but nobody who previously played can create NEW characters!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!   NO ... MORE ... ALTS!!!   :gonk:

And it doesn't even help if you create new accounts... THEY KNOW (it's some kind of NSA thing I believe) :P

Yes it does.

When you hope all the characters are gone that includes me.   If I wish something negative on a large group of people it will be personal to each one of them.  I don't get a pass because I was hoping something negative would happen to a large group.

When you're in a crowd and everyone gets hit by a Fireball, that's not you being singled out, even if you only complain about the fire damage that you are personally taking. That's why you're not being singled out.

I tried a ton of toons and got stuck in the 30's that where not scrappers 7 of my 8 50's where scrapper the lone one I trudge to 50 a Pre-IO days was an Ill-rad.

I got a defender to like 32-35 range rad/dark just grinned to a halt for me the low damage was like arrg. Blaster fire/mind same thing though I farmed the heck out of the original posi mission with him he rocked at that mission solo though I used my two buddies accounts I had access to and farm that TF on three accounts to stock up on miracles and numbias before they changed the TF so he was stuck in the 30's.

I tried a bunch more controllers, blasters, defenders, a few tanks later MM and I tried the Khelds and PB all them got stuck in the 20's to 30's. I guess it is my play style but Scrapper lock won out for me big time.
