Facebook should become the next myspace.
You say it like it already wasn't.
Quote from: Baaleos on July 13, 2014, 03:07:09 PMIs it specifically mis-information that is being spread on Facebook that is the issue, or the fact that it is being shared on Facebook at all?
"Misinformation" by clowns who take every single stupid question and theory on here as if it was gospel. Plus offensively agressive trolls who relish spreading chaos and disorder in every possible way.
Quote from: GN2 on July 13, 2014, 03:20:47 PMThough I understand if you were having trouble because you wanted something a bit more meaningful then that.
I think he forgot a "not" in there. Which would make a little more sense.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Was just thinking in light of the current change of mood here due to facebook posts, etc creating negative press perhaps it might be worth Ironwolf or a mod here writing to NCsoft on behalf of us all.
The mail will just say that we appreciate them coming back to the table and hold them no ill will (time a great healer n all that) and that was all we want is our game back. Also point out that any negative comments are from the ill informed minority and that we as a community want nothing to do with them.
I just think that if we think that NCsoft are reading posts on Facebook then surely we should counter that with some positivity, just my 50 pence....

LET'S DONT STIR THAT POT! NC may not even *know* about all this, why bring it to their attention? The time to contact them with thanks will be after all this is a done deal.

This whole debacle is a good illustration of why CoT needs to keep on tickin'.

I had a tendency to think up the bio first. If I couldn't come up with a good bio, I wouldn't make the character.

No, it's a generally insulting term. A hugbox is a device used to calm hypersensitive people via simulating a hug-like pressure. Usually it's used to treat SEVERELY autistic individuals. And the usage has leaked into internet terminology as another way to say retarded basically.

Ha! Yeah, I bet people reacted strongly to that term.  Most people react poorly to someone who insults them or disrespects them.

I never heard it before but from context I assumed it wasn't meant as "Yes! Great Job! You are number one winner person!"

That was my problem. I couldn't imagine a way for it to be a "Magic" powerset. (Sometimes, I'm not that imaginative.)

I think Baaleos is correct . Don't get too hung up on the name of the set or even the names of the powers.  Being able to recolor things also helps with.  My grav/storm controller couldn't actually control the weather.  All her storm powers stemmed from manipulating gravity in some way. (To be honest if I had known more about how the game worked at the time I made her, a week or so after launch, she would have been grav/kin)

As for making it magic, look at things in a different way and don't get limited by the power name.  Crushing field is a binding spell that binds their feet to the ground. Wormhole shifts them forcibly through another plane of existence which moves them and the sudden shifts from one plane to the next causes disorientation.  The singularity is a bound spirit you summon.

Just about anything can be explained within a comic book setting. :) which is one of things I loved about CoH.  I wasn't elf archer #746.  I was a guy who gained super powers when he signed up for a radical stop smoking program.  Or the robot designed to compete on cooking shows but didn't quite work out so he was loaned to the Paragon police.  Or the girl who had an epiphany that the rules of anime could be applied to the real world and gained fire powers because Everything explodes....everything. (yes , these were some of my character concepts)

Correct. This may be the new devs knowing this history and NC's desires and "heading off at the pass."

QFT!  Let's get the game back and then squee and say 'THANK YOU!'.  Otherwise, we're premature and might not get what we want.  You don't jigger someone's elbow while they're helping you so that you can shake hands, you wait until later when they have their hands free.  Or filled with a burger.  Because burgers are a great way to say thanks.

Gravity Control always seemed to me to be very generic in terms of its visual effects - and I don't mean that in a bad way!  I mean that you can interpret it as almost anything visually, as long as you let go of the "gravity" part.  It worked as any sort of generic force moving people and things around: telekinesis, magnetism*, or what have you.

My Gravity/Electric Dominator wasn't magic-based, but I chose Gravity to simulate a Green Lantern-like powerset, grabbing and holding people with beams of solid light, and making constructs (like the Singularity, Voltaic Sentinel, and the objects thrown by Propel).

... I miss Singy.

*Edited to add: I'm aware that there was a Magnetic Control set on the drawing board, but since I haven't heard anything about it beyond the name (and I'm not even sure it ever got anywhere past a name), I still think of Gravity Control as the most-accurate magnetism set out of what we already had.

Also: now I really miss Singy.

Ditto.. I had a DB/EA brute that was Magic-based. I rationalized all the EA powers as Wards, Spells etc... damn I miss that toon... he was a Homage to Vandal Savage- "Savage Gentleman"... Magic pack cloak and all :)

It's accepting that it is, that is the problem. As long as we all agree that nothing can or should be done, nothing will be. Why should people even try to be less trollish when we all accept that they will be and just put up with it?

I've tried for a very long time and frankly I feel mostly like I am the only one who cares about this. I'm sure other people do care, but not enough to back me up or say anything themselves. Apathy is the same thing as approval in this context. I guess if no one cares, why should I?

Too late to fix this mess on Facebook, the damage is probably already done. Hopefully this will dies down and nothing will come of it.

No, you aren't the only one who cares about it. I too believe as long as people take the attitude that's just the way things are we'll never make any progress toward making things better.

Like, someone says to me, "Heya Trip! What's for supper? Looks like meatloaf." And I'd be all, "Nah man, that's a beef ingot."

I've gone to each of the CoH Facebook groups I joined at one time or another and skimmed through the more recent posts to check for any Negative Nancy's... weren't that many but I did make it a point to comment in the relevant posts to "just be patient and be civil." Not much else that can be done. I've told a couple of my close friends about what's going on but they're not the rowdy type and are just listening for me to keep them updated. They played the game too before but nowhere near the length I did.

I remember one of them used to play as a Gravity Controller, so I'd bring along my Rifle/Devices Blaster... and I'd lay down as big a minefield as I could and he'd Wormhole an entire group of mobs up into the air where they would promptly fall onto explodeys. Or I'd put the mines inside of a bus stop and he'd Wormhole cram them all into it. That always tickled me, it's so funny.

I did explain here that after looking through the various information - NCSoft did not close CoH due to malice.

It was exactly what they said - a business decision. It was done to free up resources to merge Nexon - 2 multi-billion dollar companies. CoH was just caught it the crosshairs as the game making the least amount of money for the company at the time. It should say something about the company that they have listened to all offers. They may not make it through to the man who finally decides - but they listen.

We caused a lot of pressure on the first sale effort and that pressure hurt the negotiations. The team now is saying this is what NCSoft does not want to happen again. It doesn't matter whether we agree or not - NCSoft holds all the cards. For them doing nothing is the easiest thing. I get the whole freedom of speach thing and love that freedom. I guess ask yourself, is having your say worth them not dealing with us as a community again?

What does this brouhaha show about us as a community, exactly? An honest examination of the fb faction is not complimentary. I really appreciate how this forum has handled the news, but part of me wonders if there was too much, too early. I ask myself if I'd rather be surprised by an announcement from out of the blue in 6-8  months, or kept abreast of minor posturing and negotiations.
I guess I'm just an old-timer living in an age of instant gratification and an always-connected lifestyle. Oh well...

Spreading out my henchmen and laying down a minefield of trip mines was my favourite method of taking down tough bosses on my Merc/Traps MM.

With all the talk about the bad press on FB, I think we should all go to FB and post a giant "THANK YOU NCSOFT!" for trying to revive our game and get in into the hands of whoever is buying it. Without NCSoft's support, the game will remain dead! So go and help support NCSoft in this time of their trying to support us!

Freedom of speech does however apply indirectly to ISPs currently due to net neutrality.  Net neutrality by law ensures ISPs cannot take the measure of the great firewall of china(basically a super giant proxy filter that censors everything the chinese government wants) as ISPs could easily do that without net neutrality in place.  Net neutrality generally protects freedom of speech on the internet from both government and most corporations.  Facebook is half subject to that to somewhat, in fact sites like facebook and wikipedia depend on net neutrality to protect them as much as net neutrality protects people.

A number of folks have already noted the misuse of net neutrality on this post, but off topic rant follows:

You should NEVER NEVER NEVER FORGET that ON FACEBOOK YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS ABSOLUTELY NONE.

On Facebook you are not a customer, YOU ARE A PRODUCT

You contracted to use the Facebook application and webservice in exchange for giving up all rights to everything that you ever imagined anyone could ever have
And that was a binding contract

NCSoft wants this deal done quietly, though, so public thank you's are as unwise as hate posts while the deal is still in the making.  After they sell?  Thank you galore!
