Another thing that might have kept people away besides ERPG, was that you had audition to get into a group. They were almost all closed membership and yo could only be invited by someone who knew you and generally only if you passed muster by the SG leaders. If you look at SG recruitment for the RP server it could be rough.

I just wanted a casual RPG SG that wouldn't freak out if I forgot to speak only in character and or said something Meta in chat. Apparently, a big taboo with some groups.

Should have tried Union. We had open world, shared universe RP.  Sure, there were one or two closed groups, but mostly it was wide open to anyone, of any skill level.

As for ERP... As long as those who enjoy it do it in private, where's the problem?

No, no, no, you've got it all wrong.  (OK, well maybe not all wrong!   ;))
Guardian: *sprinkles Pixie Dust
               *Achoo!
               *Gives Cookies
               *Licks server
               *Buh?
               *MU!!

OH JEBUS, DONT REMIND ME OF THAT PIXIE DUST THING!

There were many great people on Guardian, but the quota of deliberately-annoying Hello-Kittyness was excruciatingly high, leading to my eventual migration from that server. I have a very low tolerance for b.s. - especially when shenanigans ended up ruining [for instance] Hami Raids. Strangely enough, [or not] it seemed to be the worst players who were most concentrated on this mindless crap.

Virtue: TFs/SFs/Trials runnin' all night and all day, no b.s. evident: SIGN ME UP. Virtue was rockin' 24 hours' worth.

Guardian: "LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOY JEEEEENKIINS!" *TF is now hopelessly borked, thanks Leeroy.*
...

Don't forget Charybdis and Pepsiman.

No problem for me but sex scares some people.

If we get all the servers back, I will. That sounds like what I'm looking for. I even had some guys on Union already as well as an SG decked out.

Private?  Not a damned thing wrong with it.   I see no difference between that and Phone sex, sexting (whether done on a phone or, as it was done on the old IRC channels), or any similar method.

I do believe, however, that the insinuation was that what was witnessed was NOT private  LOL

Pep was on Ignore, along with many of his cohorts. I didn't know Charybdis, I don't think.

It was a sanity measure, I was trying to not have my chat window scrolling so fast, so I could see TF shout-outs and suchlike. You know, stuff actually relevant to playing the game.  8)

I played on Guardian because that's where the people who got me into playing were. They moved on to different games but I had already started a small SG and had made friends on Guardian. I tried playing on Virtue but the lag was always too much for my computer.

As I say, as long as it was in private. ;)

Some of the more common types on Union was social RP.  Pocket D and, before Galaxy City was destroyed, the Galaxy Girl statue were top meeting spots for heroes to meet up after a busy day of saving the world, unwind, socialise, discuss cases they were working on, go off on missions, and sometimes get into a fight and end up in the arena blasting the shit out of each other!

I miss it... :(

But it was relevant to the community on Guardian. To each his own, Guardian was a carefree zone that you could easily set up a TF. I did it no telling how many times as "Tennessee Bonfire" and "Happily Married".

I heard of a few cases in Union where people weren't being as discrete as they could be... And one or two "famous" cases of mistells into global chat channels, which were -always- worth an evening of laughing our butts off. :p

Generally though? Mostly private AFAIK.

You know it occurred to me, way back when the devs were going to hold a contest to design the new Freedom Phalanx Member to replace Statesman (not as leader, just on the team).

I don't think the new guys should do that.

Because we already have a perfect character for the Phalanx.

And I don't think anyone would dispute it.

Ummm actually... I dispute it.
Ascendant was a roleplayer, and even though I do agree with immortalizing him, it wouldn't have fit in to the character concept for him to join the Phalanx.
Someone else suggested that he should randomly fly up to train stations and use the phones, delivering his skits - which I fully support.

Guardian was my home in CoH.

Small enough population to be comfortable, large enough to throw together a group easily.

Saturday nights always had something going on, whether semi-organized mass TFing or Hami and Mothership raids.

parabola

I played on Union and for the longest time had no idea it was an rp server. I occasionally joined in with some light rp if people around me were and I was in the mood but mostly just enjoyed what seemed a laid back vibe to the place. Something I never knew though was how the population of the eu servers compared to the others?

Yeah...but then what happens to the "Freedumb" jokes?

Hey now. I played on Freedumb and it wasn't that bad................ ok, I had to make my SG a solo one so I didn't have to listen to people fighting over who was the leader, or log in to see who got kicked the night before. And maybe some of our channels were private to keep the riffraff to a minimum. So we got grieved during Hami raids.................eh, nevermind.

I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!
