Personally, I hope your efforts to get CoX back up and running will succeed. I think that this is a very worthy goal. Even if I have to recreate all my characters from level 1, I will do so. There are a few things on my "wish list" for the return of CoX:
  • Everything is restored as it was when the servers shut down - all characters, bases, and everything else is exactly as we left it.
  • You start over as all level 1 characters, but everything you purchased (veteran rewards, costume pieces, character slots, etc.). Everything else must be rebuilt.
  • Hmm, what's worse than #2 that I can live with? Same as #2 but only 1 server (instead of the what? 11?).
  • I don't know what else to add. Money previously paid to NC Soft should be a consideration in dealing with them. People purchased game items (Veteran Rewards, Character Slots, Costume Pieces, etc.) and I believe that NC Soft should honor those agreements. Heck, I think that their shutting down CoX is in-itself a breech of contract - people purchased things (especially Characters Slots) that now they have no access to what they purchased, even if it is only a virtual item.
  • Final item - I don't want NC Soft itself to bring back CoX - I don't think I can trust them with my money. I will do the F2P if NC Soft directly brings back CoX, but doubt I will be giving them money any time soon.

I am trying to keep up with the press releases of the 3 companies trying to create a "spiritual successor" to CoX. If I knew about the kick starter project when it was active, I probably would have donated. Now, I'm too late and that's water under the bridge. I just hope that someone makes a game that is as good, if not better, than CoX was and that that project makes lots of money. That would really show NC Soft how they mess up.

I'd think it's an all or nothing as far as our data goes. Either we get everything back or start from scratch.
I am an ass, but don't we all love a good ass!

You aren't the only one. There are a lot of people to whom CoH was more than just a game. It was a home, a refuge, a sanctuary, a dear friend, comfort, and so much more. Some people can't understand that, but a lot of people I've talked to know exactly what you mean and I'm right there with them.

There were times when things were going so wrong in my life I felt like I was drowning. The only thing that helped was logging into CoH, flying to certain locations and just sitting there watching the NPCs. Other times I NEEDED to street sweep through Mercy Island with a higher level character and just kill everything I saw. CoH was better therapy than I could have gotten from a professional shrink at a minute fraction of the price. It's loss hurt almost as much as when my grandfather died.

So you aren't alone TheDevilYouKnow. I know there are more than just you and I who would give almost anything to get back into the game....even just for a few minutes.

Why do you think a completely ordinary system admin - wouldn't stop?

I love this game and so does my grand daughter. I really want this back and so many good things have happened but I do keep trying to temper it with reality. I made sure everyone knows that it isn't a given but I will once again say we have more friends than you can imagine. More contact me every week.

Just puttin' it on record:  If I had to start from scratch and not get my characters back?

Sounds good.  Bring on the game. :)

This is the first hope I've had since October 2012. Whether it succeeds or not, I'm pleased it went this far. You're my hero.

There's no Battalion in Issue 24 or the game files. From what I hear, the first concept art for them came back the week they found out the studio was being shut down. None of it ever made it to the stage of in-game models being created.

I think they were going to be introduced in Issue 25.
In I 24 wasn't there suppose to be contact that was found out to be one of their spies?

One day the Phoenix will rise again.

Steven Sheridan, but he's about as human-looking as they get.

Even the leaked video of the I25 Kallisti Wharf cutscene used a placeholder SWAT model instead of the Battalion "herald" that was planned to be there.

Is there a link to said "leaked" trailer?  I am way behind on this kind of stuff...

I just started reading this thread after numerous mentions in one of the FB groups, it has sorta re-ignited my interests in the game a bit as well...

I hear ya!

I was actually planning just a bit ago what I would make as my first character if I had to start from scratch.  I guess it depends on what level of access we will be given to formerly "Premium" power sets.  If we get full access, I think I'd remake my main, Pointsphere, as a Gravity/Time Troller (or maybe something totally different)... and my secondary character would probably be a Broad Sword/Bio Armor or a Dark Melee/Bio Armor Stalker that I had thought about making before the shutdown called Void Spectrum.

Thanks everyone. Nice to know that somebody gets it and doesn't think I'm insane.

I look forward to seeing you all in game. I purpose that we create a channel when we get back in game, something like "Iron Titans" Where the people who posted and dreamed on this and other threads, who launched effort after effort to save our game and failing that to bring it back, who kept the torches burning while our home was away can all still stay in touch.

This might help with all those Task Forces we need to run

Ah, I stand corrected.  No matter, I didn't like the premise I had heard, although if it did get us a moon zone then it might have been not all bad.

I'm more interested in broadening the game than going up with more low to mid-range level stories and arcs then just heading towards godhood and more raids (zzzzz).  Although, compared to CO, COX was a fat broad (referring to the many paths one can take) that I hope gets to sing again.  :)

There is one thing I would like to request of whoever eventually does buy the game....and I know it's a long shot, but I feel I have to ask.

When the game does come back (because I refuse to accept that it's gone forever), if it ever starts to die down to the point that it becomes completely financially impossible to continue running the game, have some way in place for players to run private servers. It's a time I dread happening again. I don't even like thinking about that eventuality. But someday it may happen, and to prevent the loss of the game again, I would love to see the devs come out and say "Hey, we can't run it anymore, but we're going to let the community keep it alive." Open source it if possible, charge for licenses if necessary, just let those who truly love the game keep it alive in a meaningful way. Having such a plan in place before that time would prevent a situation like all the hatred for NCsoft that we see rampant in the community.

I know asking now may not reach whoever finally buys the game, but I had to ask.

You are not alone my friend :) I also long to be back in the City very much, As you say, its not just the combat its the atmosphere of the game. I have not tried icon, because I dont want to be tempted and it may only make tings worse if the game does not come back. Its like tearing up an old wound. So my recommendation is just to be happy that things are looking positive.

So I started looking over my old Mids builds and what not...and it got me pondering.

Does anyone else feel like they would be a total noob and slightly lost on Day 2 if the game ever relaunches?

Especially if we have to start brand new accounts from scratch and I don't have my old builds to work from.

I will be totally and completely blind as far as putting together a decent IOed build.

Hopefully it'll be like riding a bike, and I'll remember once I hear the music as I load in.
Nope, you're not alone here.   :)

That said, I have meticulously kept my main characters' builds in Mids, and have their costume profiles saved on my PC, as well as the text of their personal backstories, so I can recreate them exactly.  I also try to fire up Mids at least once a month, just so I don't get too rusty, and occasionally try constructing new builds.

So funny thing I took inventory of all my costumes across all my 30-40 characters with screen shots so I can recreate the look of any of them if I need to. But when I fire up Icon and mess around, I find I've never needed to look at those screens to recreate most of my costumes, I can still do it just from memory in under 5 minutes and have my heroes and villains looking exactly right.

I don't relish the idea of starting over, but I could do it, and it'd probably be a quicker road this time since I know what the hell I'm doing, as opposed to before where it took me a long time to learn.  Also the XP curve is a lot nicer than it was back in I5 when I started.

Honestly, I don't think I would try to re-create any of my characters exactly as they were.  I think I would take this as an opportunity to truly start over from scratch.  I think it'd be the most likely way of me not feeling as though I am missing out by not having all the badges and characters I left off with.  I think I'd re-imagine a few characters, but to straight up start over with them?  Nah, I don't think so.

For instance, I've been toying with the idea of making my former main a Psi/Invuln Scrapper instead of a Grav/FF Troller.  He'd prolly end up with a different name too.

You know, I have to say, just speaking for myself, I was never a fan of the post 50 Incarnate stuff.  None of my guys got their powers from a well.  To have to go this direction... I think it betrays their origins.  Yeah, its something additional to do with them after 50 and in order to have them as powerful as possible and thus reach "the end" you almost have to do this stuff.  But it never felt "right".

And we won't get into my opinion of racing through as fast as possible.  I'm one of those people who got yelled at to hurry up when I wanted to read the information and savor the content.  I was never in a race to "get there".  For me it was all about the journey.  There are some TFs I still have no idea what they were really about.
Obviously you never read all of the Lore AMAs... the way in which the well worked was discussed in much more detail, and I am confident in saying that it actually did NOT change anyone's origin by having the well involved.  What the problem was, was that the information that was released to us was in a slow trickle, and we never got to see the larger picture in-game, which would have been quite illuminating.  Our information, in addition to being slowly given was also all filtered through the perspective of an NPC who had his own ulterior motives and wasn't being completely honest with us, the players.  These factors combined to form an image of the Incarnate System and it's storyline that wasn't entirely accurate and left a bad taste in many players' mouths.

I learned to get over it, and integrate the powers into my back-stories as much as possible, I even chose my Lore Pets and such based solely on how I could integrate them into my character's existing powers.  For instance, I used Polar Lights pets due to the fact that they could be construed as miniature singularities in use by my Gravity Controller.

Just so you can be sure to see it: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA

I'd just like to say that speaking personally I have done exactly squat.  I stopped my occasional lurking on Titan and started regularly reading and posting, I sent a few queries to the Spirtual Successors, I gave money to CoT Kickstarter and Valience, I played in Valience 2nd pre-alpha, I repeatedly watched and cried over over AA's "Unity" video, and it all didn't mean a damn thing.

Then Iron Wolf actually DID something and picked up the "let's get Google/Disney/etc to buy it" info and did what I SHOULD have done -- actually looked at this as a business issue (we seem to have remarkably similar backgrounds, though I do systems work for his competitor... we are "On Your Side" and I've never joined SCA despite custom working on swords a couple decades back)

I just re-read Iron Wolf's entire post history from March when he was thinking about asking for permission to open-source.  HE did what needed -- gathering information and getting folks talking to each other -- don't freaking let him say "I haven't really done anything" -- HE was the key element this was missing and if this works, DAMN, this community owes him.

But I'd be proud to join "Iron Tiitans" and hope we get the chance to chat in game.

Mindscythe

I think I might actually enjoy starting from scratch. ;) I'm sure I'd create my characters in the same order (at least for the first two) I did the first time. I'd create my stone/stone tanker, then my mind/radiation controller, get both of them to top level, then start re-creating the rest of the crew, my SG (provided the servers are the same, of course), and my base. I have a little online photo gallery of characters, so I remember most of the major ones.

Whatever form it could return in, I'd love it as much as I loved it before, and it would fill this hole in my heart that's been there since a certain November 30th. Even though it's far from a certainty, it's hope, and that's something I've not had in a long time... a long time.

I have been trolling this New efforts thread since page 2 started. Like you all my wife, Scarlet Darter, and I have missed COH and friends we have made in game very much.
Even now when the kids are all out of the house and we are alone for the night we look at each other longingly and say, Want to do a mission?
I can stay silent no longer. Iron Wolf I salute you and pray your efforts that you started come to pass. Like Ohioknight says you did something and the community owes you.

In a super mmo you should be powerful... yes we should still have challenges and endgame content meant for teams , soloists or only the most elite soloists. I think cox did this the best and dcuo does this the worst. CO is in between. But a super hero mmo should never have the weak feeling gameplay that fantasy games have. The boss or leader should be the challenge not his underlings. CoX did this the best.
