There's something that I've mentioned before, that I'd like to see rolled back. Get rid of Matthew Habashy and his Champions-style, single-track mission path, and bring back the origin contacts. Greater mission variety at the start, for those of us who ENJOY our alt-itis. :)

Hear, hear!

Although Habashy does not have be gotten rid of, but just make him another contact people can choose as well as their origin contact.

I don't. They thought Scripture was good enough to quote (as long as IT agreed with THEM), but then they cherry-picked, and left out a part that they decided was wrong...one that didn't support their message: the part that says that there is "a time for war". They skipped right over those words, and then decided to insert the only rhyme in the whole song. If they expected the listener to believe what Ecclesiastes says, then they should have believed it, too...all of it.

Sorry for the rant, but that dishonesty has long been an irritant to me.

It wasn't dishonest, it was their point.  The war time had been going on for a while -- the reason for the song.

I have to say I didn't like the addition of the instant-respawning Hellions and and Skulls in Atlas -- the variable view based on  street mission completion was kind-of cool, but they should have run in like the firebug Hellions at the burning buildings -- it really hurt immersion for me.  And I, also, would have very much liked to be able to follow the original Origin contact mission structure as an option (even though the NPC team-up story was pretty cool).

That said, do you guys think it is possible that the new owners (assuming we get some) might consider opening the game to some modding? There is tremendous talent here and in the community. Imagine if you had a huge team developing for you for free! Sure a lot of it might not make the mark , but some surely would.

If so, what would you like to see added?

It's stupid and petty, but the single feature of the game that bugs me the most and that I'd like modded are those first-generation head accessories -- they look really cheesy compared to the rest of the costume options.  And WHY don't they include traditional comic book "horns" (Daredevil, Batman, Big Daddy, etc. etc.)  You need something on the average cowl (Captain America used wings) to thicken the top of the head or the cowl looks goofy and makes the head look too small.  More texture in the cowl would do it, but COH uses coloring the bald head to do cowls so you need the accessories.

You can also run CoH through Windows emulators or virtual machines: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/City_of_Heroes_on_Mac . I guess the real question is whether the Mac Edition will be part of the sale, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't be. And even if it wasn't, the powers that be could use the same program / company to remake it.

Yeah I would definitely do it if I could but I'm definitely not a tech savvy person so I may have to wait fingers crossed the Mac client gets through or I could try the family pc if anything that's a last resort though :P.

Even the Mac client is actually just the Windows client being run through a Transgaming wrapper, so I don't see why it would be left out if the game came back.

Aye.  I remember the early days of the Mac version.  It would crash every 30 seconds to a few minutes.  But it eventually settled down and was quite stable with subsequent issues and patches.

(I'd run the Mac version even though I could dual boot to Windows...)

Reasonable to assume the Mac version would re-launch along with the Windows version.  Macs now have an installed base of 80 million computers and most of those sold in the last handful of years.  So the hardware will more than easily run CoH, generally, quite easily.

Core 2 Duo iMac that I had previous to this iMac (680MX, 3.4 i7, Fusion Drive, 8 gigs of ram...etc.) ran CoH fine.  Ultra Mode?  Was a slide show.  But my new Rig throws Ultra Mode around quite easily.

It's ironic that I got my new rig just 1 and half months after CoH closed down.  So I never did get chance to play it in Ultra Mode.  :/

...and I was 'one token' away from the Celestial Vet award...  (...that was almost as bad as the game closing down for me.)

We'll be back.

Just a question of 'when.' ;)

Interesting viewpoint.  I kind of feel the same way.  To a degree.  It did break the immersion somewhat.

Well, let's be honest.  My love affair started with Issue 3 or 4.  Or slightly earlier...  I remember having perma hasten (no messing around with loot and IOs....etc.) and being able to 6 slot Energy Torrent with SOs of damage. :D  Remember looking in awe at tanks 'pulling' the Hollows.  That was great fun to watch.

Anything after issue 4 was a bonus.  I didn't like the 'dumbed down' Hollows.

The new early content.  It was ok.  But kinda bypassed the traditional Atlas, Kings/Hollows/Perez route.  I guess it was just another string to the bow of the early game.

Some of the graphics later on with Paragon looked a bit weird to me.  Ie the re-done Atlas.  e.g. the graphics looked a little too crisp and shiny and didn't always match when e.g..  they put new warehouse extensions onto old maps.  Coupled with my older rig at the time it was doubly jarring.

I liked the way the game brought power diversification.  Great fun playing a dominator in Atlas in the early game.  My introduction to playing Brutes, Dominators, Corruptors and Stalkers was quite late in the game's life.  I thought they really improved the traditional CoH archetypes, adding far more bite and thought and dimension to them.

...with a Dominator I could scrap, blast, control, blap, pet...  It was what I wanted my Defender or Blaster to be.  'Useful.' :P

What I'd like to see when the game comes back is individual archetype arcs like the Sunstorm/Warshade post 50 epic mission arcs.  But have them to be able to play solo L1-50 (but with the option of inviting someone to team with you of course...)

I was introduced to corruptors early in my game life, but I couldn't play them as I prefered hero side.  So I often played defender instead at the time, but eventually storm summoning was released for corruptors.  I saw two opportunities with that.  VEATS also came out to.

1: I knew villain side players were more open minded about strategy in city of heroes.  Hero side players hated stormers cause they didn't heal and they did knockback.  Villain side players knew the power of debuffs and buffs.  This meant getting to 50 would be far faster.

2: I'd get both a stormer and corruptor to 50 the first time.  This was even easier with VEATs force multipliers.

So I made a fire/storm corruptor, went to villain side, and I made it to 50 in a matter of about one or two weeks.  I had already learned a wide variety of storm tactics playing hero side, but I was getting teams left and right in villain side in that time.  That'd unlock access to the arachnos soldiers, and eventually my main would become an arachnos widow that had builds for both paths, with more investment in the fortunata path(think permanent mind link).  When incarnate powers came out, my fortunata ended up with more incarnate powers then I knew what to do with, likewise, as even before getting 1 rare component I ended up with FIVE very rare components, for a while I felt the RNG was playing with me, torturing me with high value components I dare not downgrade or break down.

In that time likewise, the villain archtypes got to go to hero side and vice versa, so I began rolling corruptors far more often.  I'd play brutes, dominators and masterminds later in the games life.

Wait, I thought picking and choosing what to believe from their holy book was what every Christian did. If you're gonna pick on one person who did it, then you really should be picking on all of them!

That's what I think anyway.

Eh, do we need to go this path?

Hey, it wasn't until page 34 that religion popped up as a focus topic, so i'm actually kind of impressed. Honestly though, CoyoteSeven isn't the one who first "went there", just the one willing to state the obvious counterpoint. Personally i try to not get caught up in those sorts of discussions since there's usually a few participants of the "my beliefs are obviously inerrant, eternally accurate, and the only correct beliefs" stripe and things degenerate really quickly. FWIW that's one of the reasons discussing theology with most rabbis is the most enjoyable sort of religious discussion to have; a multi millenia old tradition of recognizing that all religious texts are filtered through human beings and thus imperfect approximations of true wisdom requiring analysis and interpretation. All other approaches require a sort of willful blindness and a whole lot of handwaving. Like, somewhere between jazz hands and an epileptic trying to flag down a rescue plane.  :-X

Anyway, i'm still not expecting any good news before July, and possibly even more months after that. In the meantime the successor projects continue apace and yet other new revival attempts percolate to the surface here and there, so there's always something CoH-related to entertain me.

That said, are we there yet?
So far so good. Onward and upward!

I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

If I remember rightly, you didn't get to play any of the other contacts.  They sent you to the origin contact for your build.  So if you built a Science one, you went to DATA.  If you got to build a Squid, you went to the Khelds outside.  Repeat.

Or was I wrong in my rememberances on that?

Oh yeah... I am hopeful these talks are happening and in a positive manner.  It was quite the thrill to read there was a shining light in the darkness. :)

Just add politics to the list along with religion.

I'd still like to see a water blast char get up there, especially since it's summer right now.  It doesn't feel right not having access to city of heroes during the summer.  One thing I truely, truely miss, is all the water you saw everywhere in city of heroes, even though you couldn't swim up or down in it.  CO just doesn't get it with water, sure you have a whole underwater zone but that zone is awkward at best. (I am really unsure if I spelled that right)
