Would now be the right time to resuggest?

Hi All
I spent some time looking for this idea of dwturducken's.

"Actually, kids are sending Lego people to the edge of space with a camera for around $300 US. If we could get a Captain America action figure mocked up like States, it's eminently doable."

Would this not work for a great 6th month story!!
It would be a positive coh community story as well on how well we all worked together to fund, build and execute the feat.

Hope never abandons you, you abandon it. - George Weinberg

Hope ... is not a feeling; it is something you do. - Katherine Paterson

Nobody really cares if you're miserable, so you might as well be happy. - Cynthia Nelms

Frostyfrozen

It would be up to weight and supply. But is this a good idea one we should persue?

Well, I don't see how it would be negative publicity in any way.  Pretty harmless and might get us a media story somewhere - hook up a reporter with VV and TonyV and let them tell our story.

I say, send the entire Phalanx up.  Go BIG or go home.  :)

Ooh, wait... do one as the Phalanx, and another as Recluse and Arachnos.  Race them in these ways:

1) Time to final altitude
2) Round Trip time (launch to landing)
3) landing area distance from launch.. nearest wins

Post results, garner brownie points for doing it. :)

/If desired, Tyrant and his cronies can go too. Heh.
//OOOH, send a Hamidon.  Yeah.  You can watch him expand as he goes higher up.  Oh, I'm gettin' the giggles from envisioning that... :D

The CoH community the first to send a Jello fruit mold up in to space. lol
But no the big or go home sounds perfect. The CoH Heroclik set sounds great!

Taceus Jiwede

I like it.  I would chip in on it as well.

All of this needs to be done.

Now I'm thinking of those little spongy dinosaurs that expand when you put them in water.

But yeah, I'd totally chip in on  HEROES... IN... SPAAAAAACE!!!  :D

Ironwolf

The balloon carrying them could be labeled HAMIDON!

JaguarX

so how does this edge of space program work? You just hand them $300 and they send the chosen symbol to the edge of space wit ha camera?

dwturducken

The only problem I would have with the suggestions, here, is using actual Heroclix figures. There are only a finite number of those, and I would hate to see someone lose such a prized possession.

Otherwise, Alons y! :)
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Seems to me that, with a modicum of artistic talent, Thinkgeek's Make Your Own Superhero Kit would be better for that, judging from the product photo on the page.

I don't mind, mine are still brand new in their original packaging with CoV:CE. I'll check my box to see which ones I have when I get home tonight, since I got doubles of one of them...

TonyV

Keep in mind that these little projects are usually unsuccessful.  The ones that make it get a lot of attention, but you don't hear so much about the ones who try and the stuff they sent up into space ends up getting lost.  The last one of these things I saw took three tries, if I recall correctly, before they had one come down where they could track and retrieve it.  I'm not saying it's not worth talking about, just that it would likely cost more than we're thinking.

saipaman

Maybe we should create an MMO Killer figure, send it up and hope it gets lost?

dwturducken

Like a sacrifice? ;)

The success rate is one reason why I would caution against using something irreplaceable. The paint-your-own hero figure would be a better option, due to repeatability.

To JagX, the cost is for the weather balloon and camera. If we could get someone to take a Heroclix figure to the International Space Station, that would be a coup, as well, but, unless someone knows a mission specialist in rotation...
