Why COH will not get a server emulator.

Because the Paragon Studios people are good-hearted, have integrity, and wouldn't just do that.

Especially since many version control systems use tags heavily and have a way of sneaking personally identifiable information about who checked out the copy in all sorts of places.

I'm surprised you just haven't written the server code from memory/made it up based on prior knowledge during your last lunch break Arcana. If anyone is capable of doing this I'd have to say it was you... ok maybe it might take a little longer than an hour lunch...  >_>  ya think maybe you could turn your uber brain powers towards such a worthwhile and lofty goal? pretty please?

There was a short exchange on this while the official forums were still up. Basically: most people (like Arcanaville herself) that have the skills to likely remake the game, are too busy earning a living with little time to dedicate to such a project. Not to mention, the skills required can get you a lot of money if used to... well, earn money.

Unless we have the money to sustain Arcanaville with her current (unknown) lifestyle without any interruptions, I think expecting her to dedicate herself full time into this is futile, and doing it part-time won't cut it. Even for her, recreating the entire game from scratch would be extremely time consuming.

What we need is either a miracle, or insane levels of patience. With either choice, we also need a lot of people with enough dedication and passion, plus somehow the ability to, dedicate themselves full time (or next to) to the project. These people have to be extremely selfless, because (as I noted earlier) the same time they spend doing this could be spend earning a LOT of money with those same skills.

Interesting thing is I cant see the image. Most image hosting services are blocked at work, and I check these forums mostly while at work.

Whoever engages into it really is forefeting a lot of money by not doing profitable work instead, reason I state they would have to be very selfless (if that's the right antonym for "selfish")

If he is being sarcastic, yea I missed the sarcasm. But I have heard the line of thought before in the official forums so still feel compelled to toss that post there. Lots of people don't realize how much work it would be and how much anyone would have to forfeit to achieve recreating the servers from scratch.
