I've been called Jolt in every game I've played since I started off as Rejolt in 2005 in City of Heroes to the other superhero games I've played going by Joltrabbit. When someone talks to me on facebook to catch up it's usually started with "JOLT!"
I have more but the names are random/obscure enough to not to rush to save them. If these names are someone else's main let me know so I won't steal them.
I'm game with limited character space to start. And I'd hope we'd be expected to pay to get in at first to stop folks from spamming us with dummy accounts to hold names!
Now excuse me, I have to find my old IOS app that had a build planner...
I think many of us would rather not divulge our favorite names. Sadly, there were some people who actively trolled by squatting on names.
Eh, the re-activation of the servers is a long shot. I'm also hoping you have to pay to play and character slots are limited at first.
If someone wants to pay to troll then they're the suckers!
One of the key questions (assuming the deal succeeds) will be "how many servers will be active?" As players we may need to accept some compromises in naming if the server count is low. There are a few names I had on one server that another player was using elsewhere, and I don't want to deprive them of a fair chance to have those names. Either a clearly-stated name reservation scheme or some kind of appended unique identifier would be satisfyingly fair, I think.
lol ! I would never write that down here, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm certain my char. names from before will still be available. I hope everyone is able to get the names they want for their chars. I pray that day comes.

I'm currently trying a few new ways to come up with names just in case. I used to pick random names off signs while driving to work and try to make a new toon that night.
My current way: Steve Jackson's Appointment with F.E.A.R. on IOS. There's a completely daffy pre-set list of names you can choose for your character that I'd never use (and don't know if they are copyright protected...).
For an example of some of the names: The Fluffy Kitten! Stretchy Jupiter! The Unmodified Caterpillar! Polygonal Gargler!

I have pretty much given up on Toon names. It got to a point where it was taking forever to come up with a descent name. So, that said, I'll probable re-do my originals (if available). After that, I'll use a nomenclature system based on my Toon's server, origin, archetype, Primary & Secondary power sets and 3-digit number assigned to that toon. This became rather automatic after a while, although, it took a while to get used to the look my toon's name in-game. :)
One thing I might ask of all the devs, will Underscores, Spaces, Numbers, and mixed Upper/Lower case be allowed in the respective Character Creator, as was in CoHV?
I have made a list of my main and alts.
Will be filling up the server as quickly as possible.

I think I would try to recreate heroes and villains with the names and concepts and powersets that I have here on this piece of paper in my hand. Like many here, I am reluctant to share those names, fearful that I might lose them to someone quicker on the draw than I. *sigh* But if I do, there are permutations that might work just as well. And there's always the possibility of completely different names that more-or-less strike the same chord. Also, I've been thinking of dreaming up entirely new names and concepts for the powersets I'll want to play. I just have to nail down those powersets: some that I had loads of fun with, some that were monster bankrollers for my other characters, and some I want to try that I never did or never gave a fair shake to.
And it's almost irresistably tempting to have a character with the word 'pie' or 'spork' somewhere in their name... ;)

Wow, I think that last one describes how I played my blaster all through Issue 4... only without that awesome animation.
And: I loved taking screen shots of all my toons in the middle of the self destruct animation!
I considered many times making a JOLT COLA toon that would either talk in all caps or be in the faceplant animation.

Just want to point out that since this is a binary snapshot it will likely have the same number of servers as it did when taken. Not sure what would have to be done to reduce the number of servers but I suspect that at restart they will be the same as they were.
If it requires some kind of recompile, it likely won't happen since we are not getting the source code. If it requires some kind of special tool, likewise those are lost.

It's going to be hilarious watching all the new characters get created only to log out the second they touch paragon/isle ground.
What would be even more hilarious is if there was someway to limit character creation to one a day for the first two weeks. I'd cry a little if this happened but totally accept and understand knowing what the name game means to people, including myself.

Yep. We are the most awesome community ever but I've noticed names are thin ice topics. And I'm saving mine too. I'm pretty sure a few are popular enough I won't get them on the server I eventually settle on.

The CoX forums used to have a thread where people would check for names that were open using the built-in name checker and post them for people to openly use. Other people would post names they were sitting on and trade them for names other people were holding.

I have stated my past character names in a few threads, but those are not the names I will be using when the relaunch happens. I used to follow a pattern for my names and have since decided on a different format for all my names. I have a list of 12 or so names I plan on getting when the server come back online. I have never seen these names before in game or on any of the forums so I am hopeful I will get them all.
Sadly... Burnt Toast will not be one of my names...as I have moved away from that form of naming. So if anyone wants Burnt Toast or I Burnt The Toast... you have my permission to use it as one of your toons :)

First, take the AT.
Second, throw in the primary.
Next, add in the origin.
Now name the new toon Super Flying Wolf or Super Flying Dragon.

Speaking of confusion, my brute, pre going rogue, was named The Freedom Avenger. His costume was red, white and blue with stars, very classy. Only, he was a villain.
His battlecry, "For Freedom", would really confuse the locals.
I had to explain that he was talking about the server they were on.
More than once did villains fly by, turn around and come back.
At the time people were making dark heroes, nobody was making heroic looking villains.

I'm not good at coming up with names that actually sound cool. I played with some of the joke names I posted in this thread. About the only ones I had that were as good as Sunfang or Death Jolt were the One Man Crime Wave, the Crey Mononoke, the Two Blade Kid, the Supa Skul, R. Matey and Rodinia. Mayyybe Nimble Fox, Bathing Beauty and Typhon.
I'm undecided as to whether my main, Windows 3000 Sux Man, had a funny, stupid, original, or unoriginal name.
The stupidest names I played to high level were probably Archon Arkhov, Quick Kill Kathleen, and Uthadrakon Penta. The last was supposed to sound like Uther Pendragon, but it doesn't mean anything an any real language.

I had a spreadsheet that I used to track all of my characters Day Job badge activities, so all of my names are there. I plan to eventually re-create all of them, but since the likelihood is that we will all be starting all over again, it will quite some time before I can get to them all. In the meantime, I have rebuilt the first 9 (out of 25) in Icon, so when the game returns, it will only take me about 30 minutes to create them, since all of the heavy lifting is already done, thus claiming the names. Most of them are pretty unique, and likely would not be in any danger of being claimed by the time I get there. However, there is one that I think I was only able to claim before, because I was one of the early players, so I sure won't be sharing that one.
As for the rest.....if I tell you, and you like one of them, what's to stop you from claiming it first? ;)

I would grab some of the names in this thread. There are some good names here. Then, after logging on with them only once, I would probably come up with my own names anyway, since people always said I'm pretty good at that. So I would log out, then back in, and start creating characters with my own names. I would probably forget all about the characters I made with names from this thread. They would just sit there, for years, with only one log-in each, because I was no longer interested in them after logging in with them that first time. What? I'm only human. Eventually, though, I'm sure somebody would track me down and ask me to free up one of the names they had posted in this thread because they had been so looking forward to it and it was just sitting there unused for years on end. Caught by surprise, I would be like, "Yeah sure, I didn't even remember I had that name." It would be a happy ending. After helping that person out, I would think to myself, "That's what heroes do." P.S. Just kidding and there's a special place in video game hell for people who diminish other people's enjoyment through sheer thoughtlessness. :)

The Burns Family had always lived in the deep woods and hills south of Croatoa. When the Rikti Mothership Crashed, Both Enus and his wife Ophelia were exposed to a massive dose of Radiation. Everything seemed fine and 9 months later Beau Bueford Burns was born. After dealing with Smoldering Piles of Diapers, ick, and melted Pacifiers they knew Bubba was a bit different.
