Dex vs. Ego

So how does Dex stack up to Ego since the dodge/crit nerf? It seems broken now.

It seems like between the two of them that Ego gives higher crit chance/severity and 20 more points in SS's.

Dex is considered "useless" still by todays standards at level 40, as you can still just get enough from gear, then use ego to bulk your crit chances a bit while having more severity.  Ego also gives defense, further making dexterity less then desirable.  The dodge/avoid specializations are completely useless at all levels, likewise, as dodge rating was nerfed into oblivion.  One of the reasons I'm not hesitating to move on to CoH when it comes back or onto CoT or VO.  Not the main one but one of them.

The only advantage Dexterity has is that you get more severity and avoidance in a flat % increase of ten percent, so a lightning reflex character could get theoretically more survivability with dexterity.  It's more for melee anymore though, even then if your using anything with knocks/bleeds/anything that can trigger enrage, strength is better then dex still.  Thing is if you take dex as a melee, you also HAVE to have strength or enemies will lol knock you endlessly out of range, some will even chain-knock you as some mobs(viper) ignore the general rules of knockback(particularly, they do not apply knock resistance, so they can knock infinity).

Often the above knocking at the end of that paragraph, often leads to melee taking con, and again considering Dex, well, pretty weak.  I used it before but, I don't use it anymore I mean, on ranged toons the defense you get from Ego more then out-matches that 10% avoidance, especially since I don't tend to bother with anything involving dodge anymore except on very few toons(LR is even weaker then ever with fire and ice rampage).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Dex used to be "badass".

Ah well. Thought I'd see if I missed something redeeming that dex got from the dodge/crit nerf.

Avoidance via Evasion and Dex mastery seems to be the only thing special that Dex offers now.

If both Dex & Ego versions of crit severity (deadly aim & follow through) boosts are equal then yeah, there's 10% more crit severity if you take Dex Mastery, but, Ego has 6th sense for more crit chance which probly ends up blowing away that 10% of severity.

>>

So, as far as I can tell, for 10% crit severity and some decent avoidance you trade away (a lot of?) crit chance and 20 points in SS's when taking Dex over Ego the way things stand today.

Well, dexterity still gets really high crit chance, but you can get the same amount with ego primary and gear.  The only advantage I can see anymore is that you can have a large healing bonus in your primary offense slot, but even then I don't recall there being very much healing bonus in justice gear either :/.

Edit: I also forgot to mention one of it's specializations applies a resistance debuff, only up to 10%, but that can stack well with things like claws and TGM, but even then, I don't think it's enough.

If I have the same amount of Dex on two toons, one has Ego Primary SS, the other has Dex, and the Ego toon maxes 6th sense for extra crit chance, I think he'll have a significant amount more crit chance than the Dex toon.

I don't follow you with the healing bonus unless you are saying that as a Dex toon I don't need crit severity from gear as much.

I'm thinking, if gear is equal, Ego will outdps Dex due to 6th sense wins vs. 10% severity.

What i'm talking about is critical strike %, in that you don't need critical strike gear with dexterity, so you can instead have +healing% in your offense slot instead.  That can allow for a bit tankier build or use an offensive role but still have a healing bonus thats actually larger then what a hybrid gets.  Your looking at about 50% from just the offense slot alone if your using heroic gear, 75% with legion gear.  You won't get quite as high with justice as you would with legion gear sadly, actually I am not sure I think justice offense has no +healing bonus, not sure.  It might.

What I'm talking about is which tree is better dps. I plan to have high dex (high critical strike chance) no matter what tree I pick as Primary.

6th sense in the Ego tree appears to be a nice boost in crit chance so far. Combat Training which used to be a nice boost to crit chance in the Dex tree is broken beyond the 10% crit severity from dex mastery to be able to make up for it as far as I can tell so far.

So far, I'm not seeing any reason to take Dex as a primary SS for a deeps toon with ego/dex SS's unless I want avoidance.

I'd go with Ego then, as you'd not only still have a very high severity but also higher damage from form, the defense can be used for that likely to be made useless warden/vindicator or guardian/vindicator combo, they'd give you a retcon if it was nerfed anyhow.  Ego also has cost reduction so you'll get more damage per energy and may even have enough energy regen to out-pace your energy usage depending on the powerset your using.

That's just cruel that Ego gives you the option to boost your crit severity and crit chance but not enough points to max both..

It's fun to be making a new toon again. Been awhile. Glad to finally be making a FF deeps toon.
