New efforts!

If the negotiations were completely and finally ended, with (for the sake of argument) NCSoft declining to sell, would the NDA still be in force? If talks were ended, wouldn't our folks be able to say 'It's done,' regardless of the NDA (which likely covers only specified things related to an active negotiation)? Unless they're somehow legally restricted from talking about it ever, I can't see us not being told 'It's done,' even if the news is bad (rip the band-aid off quickly). I'm as despairing yet hopeful as the next person, but am I mistaken as to how the NDA (likely) works?

if the talks are still ongoing as I suspect they are then:

1. they cannot mention NDA
2. They cannot discuss NDA
3. They cannot discuss the talks.

If the talks were a failure and there is no sale, then it depends I would imagine on the terms of the NDA as to when they can announce failure.
In fearful COH-less days
In Raging COH-less nights
With Strong Hearts Full, we shall UNITE!
When all seems lost in the effort to bring CoH back to life,
Look to Cyberspace, where HOPE burns bright!

Is it time to take CoX off life support? These "New Efforts!" are now over 2 years old - haven't we suffered enough waiting for the return? I would think that 1,169 pages of replies to this thread would attest that nothing is happening - heck, it's been 18 months since the masks came off, and still nothing.

I'm going to call it - CoX is dead!

I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings, but it's time to put it out of our misery.

No animosity, just advice from the heart.

1.) Sign up for the contact me thread here: http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10649.0.html
2.) Take some time off from the forum if it's eating your guts and look at other stuff online... preferably not COH related.
3.) Delete the short cut, clear your cache or whatever is your method returning here.

I believe there is a guy/gay or team who is heavily invested into this in personal hours, personal dollars, expensive phone bills and maybe a trans-Pacific ticket or two.  They are the ones to call it quits as it is their effort and theirs alone.  I am positive they are not jerking us around and even if it takes 5 years or more they will get back to the community in good faith successful or say it is dead and truly time to go on.

This is probably just not a priority for NCsoft and/or there are some ugly knots being worked through.  I have nothing to contribute but I still return to check and yes, roll my eyes at this thread. At least I am not alone in my fondness for the old game.

1.  NDAs can and do often include terms that extend beyond the scope of the covered activity.  Some extend to basically forever.  The NDA is in force for as long as its terms dictate.

2.  We don't know what those terms are.  NDAs tend to have a lot of things in common, but they are not all identical to each other.

3.  It is possible, but unlikely, that an NDA that covers a business negotiation would include a clause that prohibited either or both parties from commenting on whether or not negotiations were still ongoing.  It is *possible* but unlikely.  More likely, the NDA would cover the content of the negotiations: it is more likely the NDA could include a gag that would prohibit both sides from commenting on or revealing what went on during negotiations.

4.  A gag prohibiting people from talking about whether negotiations are still on-going would be extremely difficult to enforce if someone tried to pencil that into the NDA.  The negotiation team could simply state that while they could not comment on the negotiations with NCSoft, they are free to talk about what they were doing now up to and including dissolving the organization.  You can't really prevent people from doing that.

And it probably would be more likely if the negotiations had always remained secret.  But the monkey's out of the box now, so I can't imagine what purpose such a clause would serve now.

So, on a side note. Did anyone see the issues NCsoft is having with wildstar? Canceling the Chinese version because others aren't doing well. Lets hope this forces their hand closer to selling CoH...

Yeah, oy!  NCSoft laid off 70 Carbine employees, per MassivelyOP.com.  It looks like NCSoft is up to their usual tricks, not that I would really expect any differently.

http://massivelyop.com/2016/03/11/wildstar-loses-more-staff-donatelli-speaks-out-about-his-illness/

Polygon also has another article, quoting former Carbine devs, that claims the few remaining devs will be let go within a couple months, and the game sunsetted.

From the article:  "However, reports Polygon has received from sources close to the studio paint a grimmer picture. While NCSoft's statement didn't provide exact numbers, we were told that more than 70 people have been let go from Carbine, as much as 40 percent of the studio's total workforce. Furthermore, sources tell us it was made clear to remaining employees that they should expect additional layoffs in the coming months. "Those remaining only have a couple months left before Wildstar 'coasts into the sunset,'" one source told us. All of the sources we spoke with asked to remain anonymous."

I mean... it is NCsoft... just because something doesn't have a purpose doesn't mean they don't do it...

I loaded wildstar and tried a f2p account. I hated the graphics and playstyle. No wonder the game tanked

Regarding the doom posts.... as long as they stay in this thread, it's all good. If people were to go into Paragon itself or related threads and say there's no point, that would be a bit silly and annoying.

Ok....think of Captain America: Civil War. ... Like Captain America said: "Keep fighting the good fight and never give up." I'm going to let Captain America represent City of Heroes [for now] and let Iron Man represent NCsoft.

My issue with this is that we don't *really* know, from the previews, that Captain America is actually fighting the good fight (or what the "good fight" is in the movie).

We really should have enough data to plot these out into some kind a predictive model by now. If only there were some way to get that data that didn't involve either directly going through and plotting by hand or writing a program with an algorithm sophisticated enough to recognize all the different varieties of the same post.

This is why researchers use grad students for rating written or spoken comments on surveys.

From that article:

"As for WildStar, we remain committed to the game. Over the next few weeks and months we will deliver a significant update to the game, kick off a variety of community events, and continue our work on new content that we will talk more about in the near future."

Why does that sound just like the end of City of Heroes?

Quote from: Sinistar on March 12, 2016, 12:34:54 AMI feel your pain, fellow CoH player.  SWTOR was nice for awhile but memories of CoH kept clouding the fun for me.

It's the setting that has kept my interest; the game mechanics and world provide enough of the feeling of being in the SW universe that, lacking anything similar to CoH, I'll keep playing it despite its problems. But if CoH comes back, or when MWM gets CoT to a playable state, it's going to be an afterthought.

Nonsense.  NCSoft is a corporation.  Corporations don't indulge in legalities for kicks.

I suppose grad students will do if we can't come up with something more sophisticated :P definitely a cheaper and more plentiful option.

The people running them can and do all the time. Just look at Mark Hurd's personal vendetta against HP after Oracle brought him on as co-president.

JUST A THOUGHT...

If NCSoft continues to screw up, weakening itself in the process, we might be able to just buy NCSoft in order to get the rights to CoH.

I feel like Nexon would be the first to make that move.

Nexon tried to buy enough just to get on the board of directors, and it cost them a whackload of money, and they still failed in the end. Good luck with that. Hope you win the next multi-kajillion lottery cos that's what it would take.
