It really has become clear just how much of a beautiful mistake CoH was.  No wonder changing some of the code was described as "trying to play Jenga while on fire".

Code wasn't really the issue for most of what players saw.  How strong we were and how strong the enemies were was 99% data.  The code only created small limits on the kinds of options the devs had available to balance (or not balance) things in some corner cases.  For example, code placed some limits on how knockback could be balanced (because of the 0.75ish threshold for knockback), how debuffs worked, and how effects stacked.  Baked into the game code is also the notion that base regeneration doesn't suppress in combat - something that's unusual for MMOs.  The simple and yet oh so complex reason why City was the way it was comes down to the fact that the game was balanced statically but implemented dynamically.  Which is to say the only balancing rules the devs understood and implemented attempted to balance this number against that number, but those numbers had no game balance meaning except in dynamic contexts - as they interacted over time, in other words.

That's a short and simple way to describe a very complex problem.  But its why regeneration is always broken in Cryptic games.  Not just City.

Wasn't that how they  described the trouble of enhancing or improving the SG Base editor?

My point was more that it seems like everything just kind of came together into a balanced functioning (usually  ;)) game largely by accident.

Yeah, that's what I was referencing.

so I was gone for 4 days, during that time I was worried. I know it would be terribly unprofessional to do what I worry they will do, and I know they are trying to get the game to us as soon as possible. I just get this feeling that as soon as they get the game and get it ready they'll just plop it on us without warning.

Like we all go to bed one day and there's still no word, then the next morning suddenly the game has already been running for 6 hours and there's a huge announcement.

I really want to avoid that, as much as I want the game back I'd like some amount of notice ahead of time, and would it be too much bother to have that notice on the titan network main page? (the whole site not just the forum) after all it will be a big CoX related announcement.

would the THeM be so kind as to at least give us 24 hours to a weeks notice?

I really wouldn't sweat it.  even IF the game were sold tomorrow it would likely be weeks or months before relaunch.

Yes they would have the image of COH, but how many things need to be rebuilt, like say the user account system?  Making sure it is secure for things like credit card data?  Plus would the paragon store and veteran system need to be rebuilt?

Then of course there is testing things before go live,  which a beta test would be handy.

Then comes the question: how many servers at relaunch? same as before or fewer?

is it VIP/Freemium as before or just pay to play and how much per month?

And so on.....

So how many of you actually believe you're going to get the game back?

I'm not saying we won't, just curious as to what you're all thinking. Lol  :P

Over the past year, I have become an "optimistic pessimist".  I don't really believe that we'll ever get the game  back, but i sure hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, me too.  Only I see it as being more of a "realist."   :P

Pyromantic

I believe that we'll most likely get the game back at some point, but no idea when.  We've received the occasional reassurance that the process is ongoing, and it seems unlikely to me that this would still be the case unless all parties see an eventual end in sight.

What worries me most is actually if they come to the conclusion that it simply isn't feasible to reconstruct the game from a technical standpoint--if there are simply too many missing pieces to get the backend up and running.

The one thing I have the most faith in is that someone somewhere will always be trying to get the game back. This community is beyond dedicated.

The top two quotes make me think that both NC and THeM are making sure it runs smoothly, as I don't think NC would have them buy a faulty game with their name on it.
Also, I too am not really sure when the game is to return, but I think it'll be after they can get all(or atleast, with little to no game impacting bugs) of CoH working before unveiling the return/finishing the sale..
50's: Necro/Dark, Fire x3 Dom, Plant/Savage Dom, Ice/Time Blaster, Arch/TA Blaster, SS/Elec Brute, Rad/Rad Def.

Only 50+3s? I found the secret paths to get all the way up to +6.

First, you have to go to the moon. To do this you must stand on the Warburg rocket doing the teabag emote for 12 minutes, then pop 11 Present Inspirations and then throw 6 handfuls of rose petals.

That was the easy part to figure out ;)

Funny, I was just thinking of how much some people I hanged out with were technically scrubs.....

.....and they were of the unrealistic expectation of innovation types.
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

I believe we will, but minus our old accounts and characters.
Which is fine as that can be more of an opportunity rather then a burden.
Of course IF the sentinel files can do at least a partial restore then that is fine too, but we shall see.
