QuoteNope "Paragon Studio Games" is not a new company nor is it the name. It is the title of the page saying "Paragon Studio" Games as in games that fall under them. If you look at other publishers, you can see that:

http://www.gamespot.com/companies/bethesda-softworks/

The name of the tittle is "Bethesda Softworks Games," but we all know they are known as "Bethesda Softworks" or casually "Bethesda"

"No games on this platform have been released yet!"

this still tells me it's a new company, even if "Games" is omitted from the name. if it were the original Paragon it would have the past project of city of heroes listed.

I suppose I shouldn't jump to this conclusion, I'll go ask when they listed this.

Bingo, we have a winner.

"Paragon Studios Games", New company, No titles yet, nothing listed as Coming Soon. gamespot would only list it if it was a valid company

Ooooor they never deleted the page.

you're like Sherlock Holmes without the violin and the copious amounts of cocaine. well without the violin anyway.

Sherlock Holmes? Cocaine? Is this the screen version or something, because I can swear that Arthur Conan Doyle's character used opium as his drug of choice.

7% solution of cocaine. It was not illegal then as even Coca Cola had cocaine in it.

Codewalker

And a powerful decongestant. The ENT I used to go to when I lived in a different area had bottles of liquid with handwritten labels that said "6% solution substitute". That stuff was STRONG: a couple puffs in aerosol form would clear you out in a heartbeat, and leave the roof of your mouth numb for a while afterward. And that was just the substitute.

One day I asked what it was a substitute for. The answer: Cocaine.

Apparently they still *could* use it in controlled amounts for medical reasons, but several years prior to when I visited the doctors decided it was more trouble than it was worth, and switched to a combination of several other drugs to avoid the regulations -- and people trying to steal it.

Vee

They still use it as an eye anesthetic for lasik surgery etc.

I leave for a day and we're already drawing rash conclusions without any verified evidence, that a simple few clicks can disprove.

I want the game back too, but I think after the five thousandth time, it's obvious that these theories hold little to no water in reality.

If something concrete pops up, it will be in Codewalker's thread before any of you even hear a 'rumor'.

Twisted Toon

I heard this rumor, from an unspecified voice that rattles around in my head, that the game was going to come back next week. And that we'd get the Issue 26 server up and running a couple of weeks after that, with all the Incarnate stuff they had ever dreamed of coming out with added in to the mix.

I'm sure I can trust that voice, since it told me that I was going to live forever, and I haven't died yet. So, it's gotta be true.

Lol. thats what I use to sarcastically tell people how fortune tellers work. "you will live forever", it's a very great lie because by the time you find out it isn't true you can't do anything about it or go back to call them a liar cause they can't hear spirits after all..

but, in this case I at least hope that voice in your head is telling the truth about the first part. in fact I wonder if you might have ties to the THeM and they fed it through to you, maybe while you were sleeping or engaged on the computer.

or maybe they hacked your computer and used subliminal messaging techniques to feed the information through your sound card at a barely audible level. I wonder if they hypnotized you to come on here and post this now lol.

ok jokes aside, I too hope for this week. and if not this week then the next and so on and so forth, till forth becomes froth and followed by "at the mouth".

you must admit, the last update was technically leaked via a 'blog?' correct me if I am wrong, then someone found that info and posted something about it here in this thread then codewalker confirmed it as legit and posted it in the wake-up thread.

but I suppose you're right, I could be jumping the gun here, but then again maybe not, we'll know when gamespot replies about the date the paragon studios page was posted and where they got the information from.

if it's recent there's still a chance it's a repost because they have had to rebuild their databases for some reason, and I'm not sure when the rebuilding started.. then again in the off chance that it's not a repost and it's info about a new company, where they found that listing can tell us a lot more.

Or you could go through the various official state business name registries and search for "Paragon Studio Games" as an actual legal entity.

But that wouldn't be as much fun as trusting the truthiness to Gamespot.

No.

Stop right there.  You are jumping the gun.

If something happens, the titan staff, and all involved with the deal will know something way before any of us will. All these theories do is spread false hope and disappointment.

It wasn't 'leaked', it was something Nate posted in reply to a question in the comments section of a news article. I initially resisted putting it in the wake-up thread because it was a non-update and did not contain any new information. I only edited it into the post (without replying and triggering notifications) because people kept sending it to me.

As to the idea of Gamespot somehow knowing more than anyone else and having super secret information entrusted to them (about something that would be impossible or at least nonsensical), I have only one word: Lawl

Joshex can't build his theories on actual reality, so yes, trusting the truthiness of Gamespot sounds about right

Kay's all-Kin ITF that I was on was hilarious; eight angry hummingbirds zipping around virtually-stationary mobs with multiple stacks of buffs and debuffs everywhere.

Quote from: hurple on October 22, 2015, 02:47:06 PMI did a mostly Mastermind TF once, like 5 of 8 were MMs.  The rooms got so full of pets it was hard to tell what was going on.  I can only imagine a full team of MMs.

An all-MM ITF I participated in once got unpleasant in the caverns as it started pushing the game engine to its limits, and again on the Beach of Lag just from the sheer number of mobs.

In other news, the Librarian of Congress has issued new rules for exemptions to DRM copyright laws, and one section applies to orphan games. From this article:

QuoteThe Librarian granted part of EFF's new proposal for an exemption to preserve abandoned video games. The new exemption allows players to modify their copy of a game to eliminate the need for an authentication server after the original server is shut down. Museums, libraries, and archives can go a step further and jailbreak game consoles as needed to get the games working again. Disappointingly, the Librarian limited the exemption to games that can't be played at all after a server shutdown, excluding games where only the online multiplayer features are lost. Still, this exemption will help keep many classic and beloved video games playable by future generations.

IANAL, but it sounds on the face of it that the exemptions explicitly make Paragon Chat an acceptable use of the CoH client, and arguably permits the creation of a server emulator that sits behind the client to make the game playable after a fashion, although I'm pretty sure that building a replacement for the game server falls outside the exemptions in the rulings.

Daemien

I do not have the necessary knowledge of laws and regulation, especially international laws (US ruling vs. Korean laws rights...), but I think CoX does not fall under the "abandoned" category. NC Soft still owns and sits on the IP of the game.
