I am hoping the sale of COH would go thru very soon. Then we would have the legacy game to play while Atlas Park Revival project works it's magic. Not sure why this is taking so long , it is slightly depressing. Now would be the time with all the focus on Super heroes on TV and movies . Just saw trailers for Supergirl and the Legends of Tomorrow , not to mention Antman , Batman vs Superman.
I for one could not trust NCSoft if they revived the game themselves, oh I would play but only for free.

Are those superhero movies and TV shows on over in Asia, though, or just here in the US?  Because I have always thought that part of the problem was that Asians just don't "get" superheroes in any form, and having them popular in some far-off land isn't going to impact NCSoft's collective minds the way it would if they were big over there.

Japan yes but isn't ncsoft in korea? Pretty sure the Koreans are more into fantasy than anything.

Arcana

I'm not an expert in the culture of all of Asia, but yes Japan at least does "get" superheroes.  In fact, when I was growing up (in Hawaii, not Japan) the first superhero I was introduced to wasn't Superman or Batman, it was this guy:

Outside of the US, I think Japanese pop culture has the strongest superhero presence, in anime, in manga, in television.  Its no doubt due in significant measure to the fact that Japanese modern pop culture is strongly influenced by Western, and particularly American influences.

I don't think superheroes are a thing in Korea. My thought on  a quick return was solely for us. Advertising the return a super hero game would be nice tie in with the tv or movies. It could proably help with subscriptions. We are proably not a blip on NCSofts radar. Sadly.

I believe you are correct in that Korea tends to prefer fantasy to super hero.

As to Japan, oh yes, the know superheroes.  Does the name ULTRAMAN sound familiar? :)

Just thought of a minor tune up for Khelds once the game returns and can be updated.

Going off memory and some old data files I have on the subject from the old forums,  a popular gripe about Warshades was that they had teleport and couldn't access the flight pool. Thus many warshades had superspeed/hasten which of course also helped with them farming missions, as well as zone travel.

So here's my idea for the minor tune up: when you create a PB or a WS, you get to pick your primary/secondary powers and then you can CHOOSE between energy flight or quantum teleport. You can have one or the other, not both (unless you use build #2 and make a build with the other power), your choice can only be changed via respec.  If you pick flight you get the hover power at L10 like always or if you pick teleport you get the TP ally power like always.

Thus both PB and WS get a CHOICE. Pick whichever of the two travel powers you like.

Heh, just had a funny memory.  A group that I ran regularly with on Pinnacle had someone that always griped when I brought in my PB. Their main gripe of course was the knockback in all the powers, which I knew how to mitigate.  When you have mutliple accounts with at least one PB each you learn some things.

Anyway this chucklehead kept on griping and moaning and the rest of us kept telling them to zip it. I finally PM'd the rest and told them to get ready for a bit of a surprise.   I then switched to build #3 on that particular PB.....a build that was effective but one that also had knockback boosters in any and all possible powers........ after that I stayed in human form with perma light form running and then showed that griper just how KB can be if the player isn't doing anything to mitigate and also has augmented KB via IO's.

It was quite fun to see enemies just flying everywhere as I was taking them down like shooting skeet.

I then reverted back to my main build and the griper finally realized he should zip it.

I remember as a kid, the Korean Superheroes were dubs of Sentai Force series like Maskmen or Freshmen. Basically they are the equivalent to Power Rangers in the west. Only thing I can think of "Super Heroes" while growing up was authenticly Korean was Folklore (this was in the 90s and still Folklores,) like a guy who can move mountains, puts a gang together to hunt for gumiho, (9 tailed fox) etc. Granted growing up in the US, so I didn't know what was hot out there in the 90's, but if k-pop was any indication, Korea just started to adopt American style music and really didn't have anything before hand so I can assume the culture was more the same.  I'm sure Avengers is getting steam now from the movies, but I don't remember ever actual super heroes that were created out of Korea. That if you don't count fat boy Un's family where the North Koreans portrayed his dad and his grandfather as some kind of demigod figure.

Ive seen almost every series of Ultraman they have created. I skipped Ultraman Powered after reading how bad it was made.   I wonder what they have planned for the 50th anniversary next year?

a popular gripe about Warshades was that they had teleport and couldn't access the flight pool.

That was already fixed in I24. Kheldians were no longer locked out of certain pools.

Yes, that means Peacebringers could get Flight twice (three times if you count Mystic Flight from Sorcery). But the "no foot shooting" rule was one of Jack's legacies that was finally starting to be done away with.

So, first video I made.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev86zd0YWGE  It's not listed in public right now, but at the end, well, you know my feelings on the matter.

I miss the faster gameplay of city of heroes.  Yeah, I felt it was faster.  I think I'll go play marathon right now....

So, you're complaining about inertial drift in a zero g environment!? Dude, that's a bit...weak.

Yeah, I had the idiots moaning about my PB's knockback too... Until the first mob, when instead they were all "Whu?" and by the 5th mob, they were "Uh, can I shoot something too?" :P

Oh, my goodness, you're back in the Spectreman and Space Giants era!!! We're so freaking old!!! I miss Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers as well, but I don't want to watch any of it for fear of ruining the memories.
I can't think of anything clever to place here as I am currently over-caffeinated on very little sleep. All the cool people have a signature, so I will drop random text here trying to fit in.

Star Blazers can be rented on disc from Netflix, it's still decent to watch.

Battle of the Planets......no. I'd rather watch it in its original form Gatchaman

Also for an example of heavy censorship when converted to Amercia, what the original VOLTRON cartoon then watch it in its original form GOLION

Energy Blaster, MA Scrapper, Illusion Controller - it seemed the one thing I always had was knockback, but I seemed to be luckier than most players in that friend or pug rarely did I get complaints about it.  Of course as I used to say, if the purpose of the game wasn't to throw villains into trees there wouldn't be a physics engine.

I was actually so good at using knock on my energy blaster for mitigation purposes right from the get-go that I had no idea I was a glass cannon until I started running into knockback resistant things and started taking actual damage.  I used to do laps around Talos where I would just pound on the large spawn groups with torrent and explosive blast (and using stealth to guarantee getting the first strike) and then plinking whatever was still alive with single target blasts.  The next blaster I rolled that tried to do that, Fire/Electric, spent more time in the hospital than Evel Knievel before deciding on a safer hobby (like tanking Hamidon).
