Searched around to read about this Nexon-NCSoft soap opera and found this, published Feb 2015:

http://massivelyop.net/2015/02/12/nexon-pressures-ncsoft-as-largest-shareholder/

"Nexon issued a proposal to NCsoft with an unspecified deadline to allow Nexon to appoint a board member, sell certain non-core assets, disclose wages for unregistered board members, and adopt an electronic voting system for shareholders, among other demands. NCsoft responded to the proposal although the specifics of the response were not revealed."

I think CoX and other closed games would fall under the category of non-core assets.  Never even heard of Netmarble... Strange bedfellows indeed.

Its probably not outside the realm of possibility that with the right code conversion a top of the line smartphone could run a CoH server instance.  It wouldn't handle very many players, but possibly enough to run an incarnate trial.  The original CoH software was written to be run on conventional server hardware of 2002-2003.  Those would be the days of single core 2Ghz Xeons and K7 Athlons.  Although the Issue 24 software was significantly modified from that, at its heart its probably still possible to run it on very small platforms (albeit slowly and with less capacity).

Heck, in many ways my iPhone is significantly more powerful than the computer I first used to play City of Heroes.

Excellent insight Arcana!

Running full CoH on or from a cell phone is nice and all, but how about a mobile version of Icon?

But can it run crisis lol?

Its only time before they will port it over for smartphone Android xD

Not surprised, people are beginning to say smart phones and tablets will be replacing game consoles soon.  Considering the amount of power we are packing into such small devices I can see that.  Course, the real question is, are you willing to play a game on just touch screen or is it such you need a mouse and keyboard?  Or gamepad?

Know, I wonder, what it'd be like to use a tablet to play a game on the big screen with a gamepad.....:).
Currently; Not doing any streaming, found myself with less time available recently.  Still playing starbound periodically, though I am thinking of trying other games.  Don't tell me to play mmohtg's though please :).  Getting back into participating in VO and the successors again to.

Isn't that what Wii u does?

The Wii u is a console though.  Not a dedicated tablet.

One of the things that I think will always keep PC and console gaming ahead of Mobile/Tablets is that while we can pack really powerful hardware in our phones (My old Note II has a Quad-Core CPU) that even puts what we all used to have to shame...We'll always be able to squeeze far more powerful components in a computer.

Those are honestly the same thoughts I have.  The more space one has to work with the more of those powerful components you can fit :).

I'm fairly certain that that NCC 1701-E's computer core had more gaming power than the comm badge.

Yes but how long will the battery last before needing a recharge? unless you have a really long power cord to connect to the device of course...

I would never want to play a game like COH on my Note 4... I much prefer a large monitor..keyboard..mouse.
I love my phone but a 6" screen for gaming like in COH is way too small for me.

I certainly wouldn't use a phone or tablet for development lol.
6" screen vs 3 19" displays.
And yes, I make near constant use of all three while working on Revival.
Not to mention the 11-12 GB of RAM I frequently use at any time while working on newer assets.

If I wanted, I could hook my phone up to my 50-something" HD TV and watch a movie. Not sure why I'd want to do that and not use the capabilities of the cable box we have, with a remote that is compatible with the TV.

I'm not saying that using phone and tablets are the awesome or anything. I much prefer my PC over my phone for most everything. Except phone calls and GPSing.

And texting...

I just saw an article talking about a microsoft demo where they use a smartphone as a cpu. It might work for email/fb users but it wont work in schools and most other uses. My employer locks down and encrypts my desktop. he will not be touching the phone I paid for. he will not be touching the laptop I paid for.
a. I paid for them
b. I couldnt upload software or remote into the hardware I maintain with their restrictions.

as for schools, I can see Johnny walking into class, hooking his phone up to the schools monitor, only to have completely inappropriate wallpaper showing for everyone to see. or telling his teacher that his dad took away his phone due to punishment so johnny cant do his classwork. there are enough idiots pushing byod but wanting to keep control of proprietary info. not going to work.

OK I see a lot of talk about Mobile MMOs again having studied this myself with the intent of doing it, the outcome is this:

System Specs mean Nothing. Overheating and battery consumption are too big of enemies for mobile/tablet platforms, they just can't run complex programs for long periods. Unless you plug them in, take off their case and provide fan based and heat-sink based cooling (or liquid cooling) at which it is no long 'Mobile' because it's plugged in, and no those little prechargable USB powerpacks wouldn't suffice to run CoX or any other major MMO for even 2 hours a pop, combine with in device batteries you're looking at 3 maybe 4 hours a pop then you /HAVE/ to find an outlet. and no, it's not like other mobile games you can't just plug it in at 0 - 10 % and expect to play as soon as there's a tiny smidget of bar left, the consumption rate will be greater than the recharge rate.

But you wouldn't have to worry about any of that anyways, even with the case off and ventilation supplied the components are too close together and no ventilation is good enough! you'd have to separate them out over a medium sized motherboard but then it's a computer... if you don't do that and just keep it as a mobile system expect things to eventually melt with such heavy graphical calculations, basically you wont have a phone you'll have a hot gooey mess/ or a fire, electric shocks and a trip to the emergency room.

Electrons create heat, they create more heat the faster they move, the need to move faster to process powerful graphical programs because more electrons are needed to carry the data. it's physics.

Shall I get into the market data of the projected course of the mobile game market?
There is always another way. But it might not work exactly like you may desire.

A wise old rabbit once told me "Never give-up!, Trust your instincts!" granted the advice at the time led me on a tripped-out voyage out of an asteroid belt, but hey it was more impressive than a bunch of rocks and space monkies.

I would NEVER play on a mobile device regardless of screen size. Lets be honest it wouldn't be the same. ever.
