^ the city was meant to feel sterile and tightly controlled. That's what the Emperor wanted. Nature is chaos. (perfectly exemplified by the Praetorian Devouring Earth.)

I agree with this. Even after the game is released, and even with the colossal content CoX had, the unfortunate thing that may turn new people away is it's using a 10+ years engine.

Honestly, I really don't think the aging game engine will turn off that many people compared to the fact that it will be a mmo that will never get new content that will influence people's decision more.  At least until APR happens.

There will probably be people coming in to check out what all the talk is about and see what they might have missed, but for the most part I foresee the vast majority of the players for COH Classic will be returning vets

Yeah, they should totally port it to a 17 year old engine, like Unreal.

Ha should have said 10+ years old graphics (but that was correct with Agge with updated graphics throughout the life of CoX) What is most strange I tried to find a "I walked right into that one" picture but I can't find one

Praetoria was like a jail to me, I suppose thats why it may seem bland, but on a design note I must say this (having actually taken a modern architecture course last semester) one of the main tools of an architect these days is cement. This makes for lots of smooth white walls. Visually white is attributed with purity and Nothingness (colour), cloudy skies (white clouds). Smooth surfaces are very popular in modern cement art, but it's more like the difference between say a novice 3D modeller and one that can apply textures and knows different detailing methods.

Buildings are prettier with mixed stone of bricks or even various types of cinder blocks, roman columns go a long way from turning your adobe hut into a civilized building.

modern building architecture is a load of hooey. it's either flat concrete or flat glass, the glass looks nice, but there's no details (etching and patterns) everything is sleek, smooth and unimaginative.

I liked king's row it was rugged and dirty, very believable.

Lastly, the open space in praetoria, it made it feel empty, there's no hustle or bustle of a city, it's like no one lives there. it's like half the city was demolished and wiped under a carpet somewhere and Tyrant told everyone to stay quiet about it.

I was sad to see Praetoria get more empty as time went on.

I was over it in the beta. I never even bothered with it on the live server.

Indeed.  Praetoria was the home of most of my characters for the last 2 years of the game.  I would keep characters tied to it as long as possible (with the addition of First and Night Wards, that was like up to L35), Even now, using Titan Icon, I'm more likely to fly around Goldside than Blue or Red.  It's just incredibly beautiful.

I liked starting in Praetoria. More of a challenge and just something new after all the years of the other area's. Was nice to have not just 1 or 2 options...but a 3rd?  Yes please! :p

Actually, the Disney version could have Jedi Avengers helping the Incredibles save San Fransokyo from Darth Thanos.

Ok, when all the heroes trying to take the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos started singing "Let it go" I'd probably have to turn off the sound, but it would be awesome-sauce until then.

We really need "LIKE" buttons for posts exactly like this one.  ;D

What I have heard being floated was a one time pay $xx dollars and get everything from the vet rewards, badges and the whole deal.
So imagine a $24.99 or some sort of price to reset everything and help pay for the initial purchase of the game and then various ways to go forward, you can sub for similar rewards as in the past and also the F2P way with basically nothing just a new start.

Not sure how crazy I am about the idea of paying a second time for things I've paid for once before that were taken away.

I hope someone at least considered or kicked around the idea of letting people re-enter their retail box codes perhaps?

Well, you can always live without them, then.  But look at it this way.  The first time around, you paid NCSoft.  This time around, you'll be paying someone else as the whole thing is (hopefully) being restarted under new management.  So you're not paying NCSoft twice for the same things.

You'll still be paying them indirectly through the leasing company. Like buying a car,,having it repo'd even tho you made payments on it,,then the leasing company sells it back to you.

I still think re-entering original box codes would be fare. Would love to hear word on that.

Unless NCSoft helpfully includes a database of which codes are valid and linked to what boxed set and items, I would not hold my breath.  And again, if paying for them twice doesn't work for you, you can just live without them.  Me, I'm happy to throw money at whatever company (hopefully) resurrects the game, as I want them to stay in business as long as possible.

As much as I'd love to be able to toss money out, I cant. Even more so when I paid for it once already. Might be a deal breaker for a lot of people sadly. For those that are ok with it. Rock on !!!!!!!

Whatelse73

It'd be great if I had all my old characters back again.  Lots of stories and biographies of information and achievements with them over the years.

However, if we all started back up again fresh without anything, that'd actually be kind of cool too.  Starting with nothing and going thru the fun again would be almost like a new adventure, especially after so long.

parabola

Haven't checked in for a while, from the way the conversations are much the same as when I last looked I'm guessing there's not much in the way of real news?

My take on the payment thing is that at this stage I'm not thinking in terms of getting the same game 'that I've already paid for' back. The money that I spent (multi accounts etc) on the game was for the game I played then. If the game comes back I'm going to assume whoever brings it back is going to need money for their efforts or to keep it running or whatever. I will happily pay more or less whatever is asked for this new incarnation of a game I love.

Ironwolf

I am just curious for those who want the game so badly - but don't want to pay for it - how in your mind will the new company get enough money to pay off the investment and keep the servers running?

I really am curious, this new company has never had a dime of your money.

It's not a 10+ years old engine. It repeatedly, constantly got overhauled, updated, added to, and removed from. If you compared the launch engine to the final engine at shutdown, it's damn near a different game.

Even the I24 engine was going to be very different from the I23 engine.

Ultra Mode wasn't 10+ years old, either. Frankly, I never saw anything wrong with the graphics, and, now that I have a new computer and can see what the game was actually supposed to look like, it's beautiful.  It's too bad I didn't have a computer like this while the game was up and running :(
