So either overpriced and overstylized, or unreliable and gets "updates" way more often than are actually merited and actually do nothing but make the game worse?

;D
I'm trying to figure out which is which there. All of those things seem to apply to both apple and microsoft these days :D

Speaking of which, was CoH playable on a Linux system? In particular, did anyone ever get it running on Wine?

I can't speak to the latter applying to Apple, but fair point anyway.

I did, although I had to play on the lowest settings (plus side: WAY higher FPS), I think because of an issue related to the Linux drivers for my graphics card.  Can't really remember, it was 7 years ago.  I did eventually give up and just play on Windows because of the frustration in getting it to run to my satisfaction, but it was technically playable.  In fact I think there was even a stickied thread on the official forums back in the day detailing how to do it.

I've been annoyed at apple since i installed itunes on my new compy to find they'd taken cover flow out because some people didn't like it and were i guess too dumb to switch out of it. blessing in disguise though as i'd never have installed music bee otherwise.

That'd be more like if Perfect Worlds got their greasy mitts on it.

No kidding.  I have a lifetime in STO and I checked out the pricing for the Delta expansion.  149.99 for ONE expansion.  WTF is up with that?  Plus, you have to go searching and seeking for prices and costs of expansions too.

CO's latest "sale" is 10 keys for 900 zen, but its always been 10 keys for 900 zen.  lol  They make it seem like its a brand new thing when you login though.

I was under the impression the $150 was for the expansion pack, which is a bunch of goodies that make life easier and are hard to get otherwise. Similar to the Legacy of Romulus pack, which you didn't need to buy to access the Romulan content. Just making things easier for the 50-60 level grind, which you do by playing the expansion, which is free ("free"?).
I used CIT before they even joined the Titan network! But then I left for a long ol' time, and came back. Now I edit the wiki.

I'm working on sorting the Lore AMAs so that questions are easily found and linked: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted Tell me what you think!

im so impatient, but im hoping they stick to what COV(COH) was gaming wise. i felt like a villain when i was a villain and hero when i was a hero, and the lvl and piggyback leveling was amazing. i could mmake a new hero/villain and not lvl grind. i soncerly hope they keep just the way it was... but im not foolish enough to think there wont be any changes or new features

The Apple version would be called iPowers, and would be redesigned by Jony Ive to have only five supported costume colors and all the background music would be rescored by U2.  Also, every NPC would ask about your build and make enhancement recommendations, including Lord Recluse and Hamidon.  But it would instantly become the most popular MMO in the world by virtue of being auto-pushed to every IOS device in the world.

The Microsoft version would be called City of Heroes 2015 R2 and ship in 2016.  It would ship on all versions of Windows and Xbox and allow you to foot stomp with Kinect controls.  Then it would be updated to remove the powerbar and mouse controls when Microsoft announces that analysis shows whistling combined with hand signals is more efficient at activating powers.  Microsoft's marketing strategy: "World of Warcraft doesn't have Cortana."

The theoretical Disney version would probably be "City of Princesses", and... I wouldn't want to go there.... :o

This is correct, Delta Rising is free with the rest of the game and the Pack is not required for any of the content.  They did the same thing with Legacy of Romulus.

...That idea is actually not half bad.  It's not half good either though.

Christ. Still nothing?

I can understand the sentiment.  Recent discussion on what characters people would play first got me thinking about more concrete decisions, which is only making me miss the game more.

That being said, I hope those working on this project don't take our apparent impatience as a lack of appreciation for their efforts; just the opposite!  Our eagerness to play again is a great tribute to the gratitude I'm sure we all feel for those trying to make it possible.  I for one feel a monthly subscription for a maintenance mode City is far more appealing than for any other games I can find.

The 50 or so people? my wife runs a city of heroes site with several hundred people alone. And more then a few of them have openly stated that they would be willing to pay even for is i23 zombie. They and myself are obviously not talking about paying any 19.99 a month subscription for a game that is as old as this one. but even a percentage of people willing to pay hell even 2.99-4.99 would be enough to pay for a server upkeep cost. Yes you are not going to see subscription revenue that will be running millions of dollars, but the COX classic would be great to get the player base going, while "hopefully" a coh 1.5/2.0 is developed or classic updated enough with the unreal engine. Yes this game in any incarnation is never going to be a multimillion subscriber game raking in millions upon millions of dollars, but I can tell you that no one, will open a game with a minute player base unwilling to pay a simple cent to support it. we the players have maintained our dedication to the game, and if that means that if we want to get the game  back that I am required to pay a small amount to support it, then I will. And I won't be alone.

I'd cheerfully pay double that every month to have CoH back, even as a zombie i23.

Yeah, I read that the other day. No doubt, there are many, many lurkers waiting for news. Active posters don't equate to those who have an interest in the games return. I don't let that bother me. Also, AFAIK CoX never charged more than a $15 monthly fee. Many of us, in the past, have said we'd be willing to pay a full price sub. Personally I wouldn't mind a sliding scale for those who wanted to contribute a bit more to funding CoX 1.5. For some of us it's well worth it! Or hopefully I can pay to get my 8 years of vet rewards back :D
