1) The only thing they mismanaged was the shutdown itself, and as has been mentioned before in this thread, they were in the middle of a merger and had to make a lot of decisions in a hurry.

2) Who says the brand is worthless? People associate it with a very good game that isn't around anymore. That's far from the situation that, say, "Duke Nukem" is in. :)

3) Really, we only have rumor and speculation as to what the previous offers were and whether they were, in fact, generous. Someone could say, "I made a generous offer to NCSoft and they turned it down," when further investigation might indicate that they thought twenty bucks and some pizza coupons was pretty generous for a shuttered game, or that they made that offer to a potted plant in the lobby that turned out to have very little decision-making power. :) Really, it's not worth worrying about. This effort looks to be working, the only thing impatience can do is derail it, so why not just calm down and think happy thoughts?

1) Completely and totally disagree.  They mis-managed the entire game, which was one-of-a-kind and should have had a bigger fan-base... had it been advertised, for example.

2) Sale before shutdown multi-millions, now... a fraction of that.  If this current push doesn't work out... even less.  Not quite worthless, but... trending that direction and will arrive at that destination eventually.

3) True, all we have to go on is others' words, and we know how that can be sometimes, but... with the goodwill and potential that the game had, I'll bet dollars to donuts there were multi multi-million dollar offers.  Probably of a magnitude higher than the offer being worked out now.  And while this is just speculation, I am basing it on the multi-million dollar offer my wife received from a company for an *idea* for an online product.  One that is built, running, working and has an already established and proven fanatic fan-base ... there were offers.

This is crazy how long this process is taking. I'm starting to feel like NCSoft is doing this on purpose just to see how long they can drag it out for. I also think it's very one sided of them to expect the team involved in the purchase to respect their culture and business ways of doing things, yet don't show the same respect for the team and their own cultural differences.

I totally understand your feelings.  However, like others have said, we're barely a blip on the radar population-wise here, and NC holds all the cards.  I don't like it any more than you do, trust me.  But I'd much rather hear nothing than "We rushed it and blew it."  It almost seems to good to be true that Team Hail Mary will ever pull this off, but I'm kind of liking being in this limbo of "maybe it will actually happen at some point, and APR as well!"  It sure beats the usual "ZOMG, I hope somebody comes up with a compatible server sometime this century because I sure can't!" that we're usually left with instead.

While I'd be ecstatic at getting the i24 version of CoX, I'd honestly be 99.999% as ecstatic to get the i23 version back.

Now, getting back all our i23 characters and possessions would be an incredible improvement.  Honestly, I'd take that over an i24 server that would be otherwise blank.  But even if we don't get our old characters back, at least we'd have the opportunity to make them again.

I'm the opposite. I would cheerfully take all the level 50s I had, all the characters I've nurtured over the run of the game since beta, throw them all on the bonfire and light the match, happily singing and dancing as they were irretrievably lost - IF that meant getting I24 instead of I23.

The loss of I24 cannot be overstated. I am disappointed.

I am so confused are you saying getting if the game is returned with i23, the game is a disappointment because i24 isn't implemented? If that is the case you ratter have nothing than the game with i23? Everyone is entitled to their wants and opinions, but to me that's telling the people who has been working getting the game back on their own time, at their own expense, with zero to no compensation and not even a sure thing they are not doing enough, when you probably didn't do anything to further aid the game's revival. I may come off hostile, but appreciate there are people who cares enough for the community to work for the community.

I agree but that's kinda the way it always works.   The one in the position of power is the one that must be appeased.

For instance, a nightclub can cancel a gig for a band at the last minute and the band pretty much has to smile and take it.   ....But if the band were to cancel at the last minute?  (or at all!)  The club would be furious and never hire them again.   I know about this personally.... :(

This isn't a "cultural differences" thing; this is just normal when doing business at this level. NCSoft is a multinational corporation selling a property to an unknown entity. They are going to do a lot of due diligence to make sure that they aren't selling this to someone who will mismanage it, damage the brand to the point that it's worthless, or entangle the legal rights in such a way that it can't be resold should they fail with it. It's a long, drawn-out process by its very nature, not because NCSoft is a Korean company or because they don't like us. As I have told everyone who has complained about the timeframe: No news is good news. No news means the talks haven't fallen through yet, even if they're not going as fast as we want them to.
You bring up good points, but I didn't think that's what the poster was talking about.

The things you talk about here are typical things I would expect any company from any country to do.

I think the poster meant things like, "You can't talk directly to anyone...you must be introduced first".   Cultural things.   Wasn't that one of the things that derailed other proposals for CoH?

And I think this only happens because NCSoft is the big entity here.   Would a small Korean company do that if Microsoft© called them?   I doubt it very much.   So it's really only happening because NCSoft has the power.

It seems only logical that any company would at least be aware of other cultures and not be "offended" if a company from that culture did not follow their "rules" exactly.

Doesn't make sense, but just grit your teeth and deal with it.

You would seem to be very confused or else I am.

I read his comments as saying he valued the improvements of I24 far more than he valued all his previously existing characters, not that he would rather have no game than I23.

I don't see where you're getting that at all.

I was confused what he was saying. The part where he was saying with the bonfire I understood, but the last part I didn't know if he was interpreting it as he was disappointed as just not having i24 or disappointed in the team's effort of not getting i24

I'm a blaster at heart. My first two 50s were blasters and those were during Issue 4 when they were a running Dept Joke. I really wish I24 went live, but if that went live I'm sure something awesome sauce in I25 would have been just as missed.

At this point I'm begging and not choosing. I'd take Issue 0 right now.

I24 will be much of the backbone of APR, fear not, it will come, if not in exact detail, then in the same spirit.

Try getting a building permit sometime.

NCSoft holds all the cards and it is their game.  The Hail Mary team has to play by NCSoft's rules of business and the business culture over there.

I want the game back the same as everyone, but this is a time for the tortoise to beat the hare, or put another way: haste makes waste.  They can't go rushing this.

By the way, for any fans of Sword Art Online...
Imagine...

City of Heroes being built for NERvGear. Think about that and drool.

Oh man, with all the characters I had to be trapped as certain ones....that would be fantastic.
The irony is that I never did put much time into my SG base, it was tiny but had the teleporters and a storage area.

Or to put another way, my characters had PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS...............and a itty bitty living space.  :)

Oh efficiency, definitely efficiency.

Me: "Hi, I need to sort out planning permission for a conservatory."
Them: "Sure, just fill out this form."
Me: *Fills out form and hands back"
Them: *Reads & stamps* "There, all sorted, here's your copy."
