Since we are talking about future characters and I am coming up with names... I have a question.

I never really saw that many real named heroes... like celebrities. I can think of a few properly named celebs whose names would make great super hero names... like.. David Copperfield as an Illusion controller. My question... does this type of naming violate the TOS? Would that name be genericed under the old CoH rules?

I had a Wolverine clone that I made early on (I joined in Issue 12, I think) that was based off a story line done in the late 80s involving the world thinking the X-Men were all dead, so they had to change their appearances when they went "into town." (It seems like they were in the Australian outback, or something.) The "disguise" that Logan used was a crew cut and large, dark sunglasses, usually wearing a "wife-beater" t-shirt and jeans. I named him Frank Gorshen. He made it all the way to shutdown, but I would always have to explain the whole thing at least once, any time I teamed with him.

I was stunned by how many times I had to explain who Frank Gorshen was. In a super-powered video game! :)
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Even as a kid, watching Batman, Cesar Romero's Joker was never more than a clown, and didn't seem to be very dangerous. (And it was hard to take him seriously with the facepaint covering that moustache that Romero refused to shave off.) But Gorshen's Riddler.... He'd be monologuing about how he was going to trap Batman and Robin, and do away with them once and for all. His voice would start rising ecstatically toward the end, and then he'd hit that giggle, and you knew he was insane enough to be a real threat. Gorshen WAS the Riddler, and will always be the standard against which other portrayals will be measured.

I knew there were a few Scadian's here who would appreciate it but I didn't quite realize how many. :)

There was more to the back story of that toon. Not long before I created it I had a very clean shot blown off by someone on the field. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt and didn't question it but when I got off the field I had a few people come up and tell me it was a very nice shot and that the guy was known for not calling blows from women even if they hit hard.

The incident came to mind while I was playing with the costume creator to see how close I could come to making some of the Scadian fighters I knew. And no, I did not model the toon after the guy who didn't take the blow, though I was really tempted.  :D

What I have done on the field especially in melee is when they hit you after you have repeatedly hit them - stop and say oh, you ARE playing? I thought you weren't playing today - as I hit you and you never acknowledged my blows! Would you like to take my shot and I will take yours - or we can just ignore each other?

Exactly or pretty close? If it was pretty close, then I may be your idiot. The char was Gaic Vision and he did have a different look (alt costume).

I don't remember writing a bio for him though.
I want to say it was as exact as you could get in the character creator. And I don't think the character's name was Gaic Vision. I think it was straight up Vision. And he had a bio.

It was one of those "What in the blue hell made this guy think he could get away with this?"

Good. Glad it wasn't me. I didn't think I was close enough for a delete or generitization (I think I just made a word).

I didn't copy the character exactly, but the powers... pretty much. Inv/SS tank w/ lazer beam eyes and even intangible. For the issue range when I created him it was pretty spot on.
Cogito, Ergo... eh?

Admittedly, many of my favorite characters were more or less loosely based on comics characters (though I usually tweaked their powersets), but I'm surprised that Dr. Bodog made it to the end.  He originally looked exactly like Captain Marvel archfoe Dr. Sivana, and "Bodog" is Sivana's middle name.  I actually made him when I first tried the game on a trial account, and I didn't think I'd be sticking around long.

... I stuck around long.  When I subscribed, I changed his costume (I changed his white lab coat into a black Baron jacket, traded out his little glasses for giant goggles, gave him a red beard, and when I got the single-shoulder cape vet reward, I added one of those, too) to avoid being generic'd, and I guess it worked.

This reminded me of a mechanic I posted back in the day where brutes could buff fury by taking hits from one another and other melee toons to pump themselves up before a fight.

I don't always get sucked into a jet engine and live to talk about it, but when I do I use the new ICD-10 V97.33XD code.  Because things like that need to be trended by your insurance company and your money!

Huh. I just miss it like crazy, 4th straight night that I have had a dream that convinced me that it was up and running and I was killing badies, then when I finally wake up I realize it isn't yet.

I've dreamed about the game in the past pretty often and most recently was two nights ago. In the dream, I went out of town with my parents to some kind of all natural spa place but we only took one car and there was a TV in the place that aired a brief advert stating the return of City of Heroes was happening on that same day.

And I ended up arguing with everyone trying to find reasons for us to all go home early, like immediately, so I could log on. And my mother says "there's the door, no one's stopping you!" To which I replied, "But I don't have my car. Am I supposed to walk?" She goes, "yeah, ya better get moving." And that was pretty accurate to my mother upon reflection, she doesn't take crap from anyone. The whole scenario was like something we might have done way, way, way back when I was a teenager.

Even in that moment between asleep and awake after it happened, it was still in my head that the game was really back and I convinced myself to roll back over and fall back to sleep because it'll still be there in another couple hours.

And now... your moment of creativity. A supergroup girl scout troop I once came across.

That has to be one of the most clever themed groups I have ever seen!

Most of my toons had at least one naked bunny android costume.

The Clan Remaugen Bunny Droids mostly hung out on Champion Server. I had two accounts and my own SG & VG but I couldn't ever manage a nice group shot with just two at a time. I suppose I could have tried some photo manipulation, maybe scene melding or something. I tried in Icon, but I couldn't figure out how to get the saved costumes loaded on NPCs.

I dreamed I was leading an Underground Trial a few nights ago. I was leading 1-3 of those a day at one point on Freedom. I even had key binds setup to provide instructions on each phase to save me time.

Congrats! Have a cigar! Just don't smoke it in the hospital, people will cough and look at you with anger in their eyes.

Hope things go very well!
