I would do THIS atleast twice. I always loved having two accounts and fully plan to do so again!
I'd need at LEAST two accounts...as I have a son who never got to play before. :D

Yup, a more detailed version should be up on the wookieepedia...or just look up Kessel Run on google.  Just be careful, you could be on there for years reading up Star Wars related stuff.

And officially, Disney gets to make all calls on any explanations so they may retcon the retcon :)

Not me. My fascination with Star Wars and Star Wars lore ended with the Prequels. I was iffy after Return of the Jedi, but the prequels did it in. It's a shame too because I saw the original in 77 a bunch of times and Empire really stoked the flames. I leave it to those who still have a passion for it.

This turns out not to be the case.

When an object travels near lightspeed, time dilation slows its experience of the passing of time. Massless particles (like photons) *must* travel at exactly the speed of light. These particles do not experience the passing of time whatsoever. A photon leaving the Andromeda galaxy arrives at the mirror of my telescope in ZERO TIME, as far as the photon is concerned. To me, it took about 2.5 million years from Point A to Point B.

Objects with rest mass cannot travel at lightspeed (their mass would increase to infinity). The closer to lightspeed you go, the slower time passes. So just wave your hand and say, "They were travelling so close to light speed that only 3 or 4 months of subjective time passed as they travelled to Earth." It's actually trivially easy to calculate *exactly* how fast they were moving if you know the distance and their subjective time experience.

The mechanism used and the energy expended to accelerate our hypothetical relativistic Keldans is left as a (hand-waving) exercise for the student.  ;)

Yeah... ummm...  I was just gonna say that :P

Yes, but how many Kheldians can dance on the head of a pin when going at that speed? Or at rest for that matter? Stick pin? Hat pin? Inquiring minds want to know!

The first group who tried to buy the game was the Paragon Studio buyout with VV and company and they were buying the game still running.

Wait, what? Now I'm confused again. I thought that Paragon Studios, led by Brian Clayton, was in secret talks to buy the game. The talks fell through, and the next day we learned about the shutdown. Following that announcement, TonyV started the SaveCoH campaing, and then even farther after that, VV & others got started with the Task Force Hail Mary stuff. I was under the impression that VV knew as much as any of the players about the Paragon Studios buy out - that is to say, nothing, until interviews brought out info much after the fact.

While I agree with you about parsecs, I have heard the explanation that the ship actually warps space by bending it. The more it's warped the less physical distance it actually travels. If so, then 12 parsecs is a measure of distance. A less capable ship might make the run in say 21 parsecs because it could not warp space sufficiently.

I thought it was because the Run is near The Maw, a bunch of black holes, and if you fly properly near them, you can literally take a shorter distance than other routes, because a massive group of black holes does crazy things to space / time.

Somewhere, on some disks, or in a data storage facility, or on a tape, is a complete backup of every single line of code for CoH. There's also employee emails, logins, and a huge variety of other things.

Which doesn't make the blindest bit of difference if nobody currently at NCSoft knows where it is.
Exactly.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

I'll always prefer the explanation that Han Solo was trying to see how much of a rube his potential client was and spouted that nonsense on purpose to see if they would correct him (and thus indicate they would be harder to take advantage of). It may not be the official explanation, but it makes Solo look more clever and that's good enough for me. :)

LOL! I hope Spielberg never lives down "jiggabytes". Serves him right for not doing his homework. And the same with Lucas and "made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs". Being an "artiste" doesn't mean you shouldn't have your facts straight.

I facepalm whenever The Doctor on ST:Voyager uses the unit "roentgen" when talking about radiation measurement. First, it was a "meaningless" legacy unit at the time the show came out, so they wouldn't still be using it 400 years in the future. Second, you don't pronounce it phonetically; it's a German word, pronounced (with a "hard" G) "runtgen." (it tends to come out more like "renkin" in conversation)
I wouldn't use the word "replace," but there's no word for "take over for you and make everything better almost immediately," so we just say "replace."

Except that they wouldn't have... Lived, that is.  Remember, unjoined Kheldians only live 8 years (another stupidhead thing about them.  Whoever thought -that- one up needs some slappage!)

We know from the lore that Khelds come from outside our galaxy (though how far out is unknown). It's  impossible for a lifeform with only an 8 year lifespan to travel the millions of light years between galaxies if its limited to light speed.  Even time dilation effects wouldn't allow it, it's too far.

Per the Lore AMA (http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Lore_AMA/Sorted#200) they're relatively close:

QuoteQ) Kheldians are an extragalactic race. Are we talking actual "other galaxy" as in Andromeda, etc, or just "outside" like, say, the Magellanic Clouds? (Memphis Bill)
A) Outside. (Matt)

And I think I mentioned that the short lifespan is integral to the Nictus origin story - extending it is why they started munching on other Khelds in the first place.

Sure, why not? I've heard lots of different ones.

Yes, the mass would warp space/time. With multiples there it would be difficult to map but not impossible if you can determine the mass, you could work out the distortion. You woud have to factor how each one warps the space of the others.

In fact the entire arrangement is unstable and would likely collapse as the gravitational waves cause the black holes to lose orbital energy making collapse more likely. A mess to keep updated charts!

Interestingly, the original script has Obi-Wan reacting in such a way that it indicates his disbelief of the "clearly" outlandish claims. It doesn't say why the claims are crazy (because 12 parsecs is just too few, or if it's the units) but it's interesting.

If they were to do that. I wonder how far they'd have to go in order for you to run a server, for say for a team of eight, and store all your character info locally?

Edit: I should have said all account info, including bases. That way if you're on someone's elses server you could still use them.

Well, I ran a WOW server emulator on a 3ghz P3 Northwood running Vista and only 4gig of RAM some years back... Supported about 32 players, no worries.

I noticed someone mentioned 2 accounts.  I also had 2 accounts and paid for both for periods.  I'll most likely do the same again after a short time depending on whether we have our accounts back or not.

I had... all up 4 accounts I think and at least 2 subscriptions at all times over it's life (well from my beginning which wasn't quite opening day). I'd certainly pay for at least 2 more if I was given the choice.

I also bought it twice more for other people.

Has anybody else ever wondered how the freak tanks and slicers ...err ...wipe?

Probably the same way that a guy with an RV unloads the contents of his toilet tank. Go to a location with the necessary equipment, attach a hose to a port somewhere on the freak, wait while everything gets sucked out.   :)

I'm hoping CoH comes back...and a part of me wants it back as a blank slate.. no account info etc. I look forward to logging in on day one and seeing a bunch of low level characters. Would love to have huge groups of people in The Hollows and Kings Row. I can come across as caustic (I prefer to call it blunt) but I am/was a HUGE fan of CoH it was the only MMO I played more than 2 to 3 weeks....I played from late 2004 until the doors closed... paying subscriber for 2 accounts the entire time. I have been spending the past few days making builds for all my new characters. :)

Nice seeing you again Toast. I certainly experienced some of that while helping other CoH players with technical issues.

Forums anywhere are well forums.  :( Well, I'm hoping this happens and we can all enjoy our game again.

What if you can buy a one time purchase and get everything - for free? You won't need paragon points then! Then if they do make a store for extras - BONUS!

Sure, how much?
