The Fifth Horseman

Quote from: Thirty-Seven on June 29, 2014, 09:16:18 AMI keep hearing about this, but have yet to see a thread or any other communication about what SCORE is exactly or what it stands for even.
A community server project. Stands for Secret Cabal Of Reverse Engineers. Last we heard, they were also modifying chunks of the client software.  Some of the information has mysteriously vanished from the forums. Obviously a Nemesis plot.

I just thought of something very disheartening that I hope is very much NOT the case.

What if the new buyers or the devs that end up working on the game end up changing things that ought not to be changed.  Suddenly all IOs are only available with real money, you can only have 1 character slot, powers are tweaked so that they are far less effective, debt is made relevant, enemies are all given powers that can apply a full 1 minute hold even on Tankers, etc. etc.  Costume pieces will all be given stats!?!

Isn't it entirely possible that some of the fans of the game who had the most ludicrous of ideas on the forums are the very people who will be put in charge of this game and destroy everything that we love about it?
That's entriely possible. Still, the alternative is no CoH at all.
We were heroes. We were villains. At the end of the world we all fought as one. It's what we did that defines us.
The end occurred pretty much as we predicted: all servers redlining until midnight... and then no servers to go around.

Somewhere beyond time and space, if you look hard you might find a flash of silver trailing crimson: a lone lost Spartan on his way home.

Ok, this is apart from the question IF they're going to include account data...I realize we just don't know yet...but IF they do, how is this going to interact with the changes from the old account system?

I tried to access my original account today, and one of my two security questions isn't what I thought it was, then once I got verified past that, they're wanting my old NC Master Account converted to something new.

I didn't mess with it because I'm afraid of messing it up for later, but sooner or later this'll have to be addressed if it's not a fresh start. Any ideas?

this is one of the reasons Ironwolf keeps going to...

Step One Acquire the game

Step Two Figure everything else out..

Until the game is actually acquired and we know what was acquired.. how can we answer these questions.. I a hoping that its not a fresh start... I have a lot of time effort and money into my creations.. but its all about Step One...

To the people on here who are doing these negotiations:

I know you don't need me to tell you this, but don't let the fan pressure force you to make mistakes. Take your time and get everything right! It's better to get the game back online later than it is to not get it back at all. I personally have no expectation of seeing it back before 2016. If it happens to be back before then, well, my credit card is always ready!

I'm sure there's a process currently in place to transition old COH accounts to current NC accounts...preaching at me about Step One is useless when I have a family member trying to force GW2 on me today and I'm trying to make sure I don't lock myself out of the account I currently have, or once had, as it may be...

Sorry, I realize that comes off kinda harsh...I'd rather not even touch it til COH is back, or not, but failing that I'm trying to not make a mess of it.

So just make a new account...

Thirty-Seven

CoH account data isn't currently in use, so why would your master account affect that?

I'm sure the new devs would need to come up with a totally different system that can read the account data they -might- get from NC, meaning we'd need to somehow prove we had access to a particular account and then associate that with the new account system created specifically for the relaunched game.

Scendera

I'm basically concerned if I make an account on my primary email addy, it'll mess up any chance I could get the COH account associated with the addy back if/when the game comes back.

Frankly, I don't even want GW2 til NCSoft makes good. I'm still pissed, but she doesn't get that and all she sees is "Cheap sale!" She knows all she has to do is waste the money and I'll feel guilty enough...family, gotta love it.

If you don't want it, tell your kid to shut up about it. Simples (and yes, I have kids too, two of them).

When CoH was killed, I swore NCSoft would never get another penny of my money, and I stand by that.  I don't care how good a game may be, I will not buy it under any current circumstances.

-IF- they sell CoH in this deal and we get it back, I -might- reconsider that, but not until.

Scendera

Not...quite the situation. But yeah, think I'll just put my foot down and sort it out if and when I actually need to.

Are we so sure NCsoft are the only party responsible for the shutdown? I mean, early in life one is tought that it is seldom fair to only blaim one when two are fighting!

With only the public side of events to go by, NCSoft -are- the only ones we can blame.  Unless you either know something others don't or want to invent a 3rd party out of thin air...

After reading the vast bulk of this thread, I decided to create an account primarily to register my appreciation of the efforts of Ironwolf (and others) in keeping us all informed as to developments and the secret buyers for working to bring back our beloved Paragon City.

Hopefully see you all in game ; virtue server.
A world to defend
A city to protect
Innocents to save
"Why?" They ask "they hate you"
We're heroes, it's what we do.

Nope, I dont know more than what is written on internet. What I read is that there was a deal going on at closure and that it was unsuccessfull. So if there was more than one party involved is it only possible that one is to blaim?

This point is moot for me.. Ultimately the shutdown was NC Soft's decision. They owned the property and the studio.. period..

Now the former attempts to buyout.. who knows.. none of us were in the room.. but the decision to shut the game down was 100% NC Soft..

I'm simply in awe of this community...118 pages of replies responses and ideas on this one posting! I monitor this one all the time to watch how many people are posting! I can't wait to have the chance to team with all of you again! Thank you Ironwolf! And thanks to all those working to restore our world! I wish all of you( and I mean ALL of you out there) much success!
"You've started an interstellar war!" "No, I didn't start it. But I'm liable to finish it."

I hope you all don't take my posts in the wrong light, I never try to be defensive or snarky. I try to explain it differently at times. If I say this is happening and some one doesn't get what I mean I try a little different wording.

If this adds some confusion - it is all my fault!

At this point all we can say for sure is - someone is trying to buy the game, the have the money and resources to run the game. We don't know what we will get yet as assets. I said once before hell, they may throw in everything including Statesman's statue - but we don't know yet.

Your conduct has been exemplary and extremely helpful. You have not promised anything, just kept us abreast of something ongoing and given us a reason to hope. No matter how simply you explain things, some confusion is inevitable as well as some frustrated or snarky replies from the jaded and embittered.

Thank you for bringing us hope Ironwolf.

Are we there yet?  ;D
We're almost there!  ;D
