I am very happy and will likely never use the Mod power. I want to hear what you all say - but it goes both ways, listen to each other as well.

Just as there was no single way to correctly play CoH there is no single way to go through life. I don't go through life angry. I lost my first wife to cancer at age 31 and that changes you forever. I am far more patient than I used to be - in my youth I loved to fight and was damned good at it. I have learned only fight to protect someone weak or yourself if under threat.

Every single person here has a different personality and it can lead to this:

It's more just as glass to break in an emergency rather than an expectation of policing the thread. Also a "hey listen to this guy" marker.

Different colored dots are a bonus, too. :)

The highs and lows of this game have kind of paralleled my life.

The highs:

I purchased CoH back in the Summer of 2004. I had never ventured into MMO land but all my co-workers were playing. I was hooked from the start. Actually, the only reason I initially played was that there was this really hot girl at work who was playing and I figured that by playing the game and teaming up with her we would sort of be hanging out together after work (even if it was only on the computer). It worked. She must have suffered a busted synapse somewhere along the way because she married me in 2006.

The lows:

Ok - Fast forward to 2012. Our buddy Eric (Judge Fear on Infinity), who was one of the aforementioned co-workers, dies in July. In August it's announced that CoH is shutting down. In October my Dad drops dead. It was a pretty sucky year.

To get this game back would give me a little spot of redemption. Now... if my Dad or Eric were to show up at my door, I would have to shoot them in the head because they'd be zombies and we can't have any of that nonsense happening.
If I was a Jedi, there's a 100% chance that I'd use The Force inappropriately.

Damn, man.  I hope I don't look like Eric.  (Or your dad.)

ROFL, oh god, I'll never be able to hear that line again and not think of them. As old as I am, I'm gonna cherish that.
Please don't send blind requests in games to me, I learned to ignore them in CoX, no offense meant. (this is only here until I can figure out how to put it in my actual profile on here.)

...On a positive/lighter note, I think things have significantly calmed down over on the Facebook pages. A lot of our peeps have taken some action over there and chilled everyone out. Granted, there are still the random few whom for WHATEVER reason insist on doing more damage than good. But still. I think they've quieted down drastically.

Not too long after my wife and I started playing, we did a Synapse TF with a member of the Angry Angels SG.  My wife ended up getting an invite to join them (I was on the character in my avi pic, so didn't), and out of curiosity I went out and googled to see what I could learn about the ladies.  One of the things I found is, in retrospect, probably a big reason I fell in love with CoH, if not *the* reason.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1N4jr5DFLE

The videos by Samuraiko, Angelus Animi, Leandro, and others all reflect the spirit of what I came to love about the game so much.  This one, especially the shot on the IP bridge, is where it all started for me.

First one I remember seeing was Mr. Abyss' video, and then I made the mistake of watching Aralcox's stuff. And immediately went through this phase of, "Oh my Gods, I give up - I will NEVER be that good, nope nope nope, screw it." Aral found out about it and chewed me out for giving up - we were going to collaborate on a video but he ended up leaving the game for undisclosed reasons and we never got the chance. I still wish we had...

(Seriously, his stuff is amazing. It's a pity that YouTube only has the low rez versions of his stuff - you guys should totally watch it, though.)

Nowadays I watch Angelus' stuff and she is totally the heir apparent to Aralcox. (Right up there with Leandro - their tech work is infinitely better than mine.) Her "Pure Imagination" video makes me bawl every time I watch it.

Ah the fun of people telling you the right way to pay. :)

Remember one group where the tank was trying to dictate where everyone should stand. He'd go, you stay here, you there... for the entire group. Myself and another guy kept running about or just slowly moving away from where we supposed to be just to mess with him.  Eventually we went, we're starting our own team if you want join us you're welcome to, to the rest of the team.  Everyone bailed on the tank.

Then another team the tan absolutely insisted we just HAD to herd to succeed...while fighting devouring earth. She kept yelling for the controllers to lock things down, and insisted those pesky little things the DE dropped didn't,t matter.  But we ad to herd, because that was the best way and we just need to use our aoe's to kill things.  To which I had to point out... our group was a couple controllers, a couple scrappers (me as a MA/SR and another DM/INV) a defender and the tank, the tank wasn't high enough for foot stomp, I didn't have dragons tail yet, so our aoes were the other scrappers shadow maul or the defenders ball lightning.

It always annoyed me when people saw one good way to do something and insisted it was the only way to do something, even when you have a team of completely different power sets that don't work together the same way

Cool.  Been a while since I sent a "Congrats!" for dinging a level.  Congrats, Ironwolf!

It's not quite "Congrats!", but in FFXIV if I see someone level I will always use the auto-translator do say "Congratulations!", mostly because I know that's just [Enter] -C-O-N-[tab]-[enter].

I can do it fast, and mid-fight with minimal issues.

That being said I'm sorry and wouldn't mind a change of topic if you guys don't. Does anyone know how far Wind Control was along? I only have up to i23, so I can see Bio Armor and Psi Weapons, but none of the other powersets they were working on. How far along do you think they were to finishing any of them AND if we got the tools to develop, do you think any of them could be finished?

Not very far. Wind Control has no animations or FX. The numbers are a first draft at best and I'm not sure if those are the final mechanics they were going to go with. It's more like a scratchpad outline of the set than actual development on it.

Psi Melee is pretty much ready to go as-is. Rad armor is probably the closest to being complete. Savage Melee needs some FX work but would probably be salvageable. Rad Melee needs FX and maybe an animation or two.

The other origin pools are pretty much in the same boat as Wind Control -- what's implemented isn't much more than notes on a wiki page so you'd be building most of it from scratch.

Most of the other datamined sets don't even have placeholder powers yet. The names were gleaned from the product catalog which tended to get things added to it that were in the drawing board stage.

All the sets I saw have associated product IDs, so it seems they were going to be for-purchase. It's possible they might have changed their mind and given one for free to VIPs, but there's nothing to indicate which.

For me, I only know about Rad (had forgotten) Savage (which I thought was part of a new Epic AT they wanted to do but cancelled cause it was too complicated), Psi Weapons, Martial, bio armor, and the power pools (like gadgets)...but there were more? Also what do you mean as "origin pools"

For the record, CoT has no issue with dumpster diving, and has alleviated the issue which caused CoH to nerf it through an alternative method.

Our CoH devs were fond of applying multiple redundant fixes to a single issue when one would be sufficient.  For example, Burn patches - cap the number of  targets hit as well as making mobs run from the flames, and later on add aggro limits so the original problem of luring hundreds of critters into it goes away but leave the first two changes ("nerfs") in place.

IIRC the fear effect was removed or dampened towards the end of CoH's life but there was a significant period of time the power was largely neutered from the overlapping nerfs.  And yes, I understand that different engine functionalities surely became available to the devs at different times which resulted in these "three different ways around the barn" fixes, no complaints about that, the critique is over the devs seeming to lack any sort of issue tracking/documentation so when new options *did* become available they could look up previous work and apply a correct fix in place of a previous partial fix, instead of not realizing and applying both over top of each other.  At my workplace we've been using an application called JIRA for managing similar software issues for some time, and there were other tools for doing the same before JIRA came along.  If the CoH devs were using such tools it really didn't show or we were seeing alot of issues that fell through the cracks.

Would be very curious to hear of what tools the CoT team will employ not only to get the project off the ground but to cover long-term support.

All in due time. But the basics boiled down to looking at the real issue, rather than the incidental reflections of it.

Also, I think its worth noting, though it may/maynot be corporate propaganda,  they are also dealing with a culture difference.

That's what I'm thinking. (This next is conjecture on my part.) During the first sale attempt, they got a lot of flak from the player base, and it put them off. They probably didn't want to lose face by seeming as though they were caving to the pressure. Now, they're considering selling after all, but, after the fiasco of the last time, they might want their "reversing course" to be kept quiet. And it may be that the more noise we make, the more they feel like they're being seen as caving.

They just want to get the deal done quietly. And that's perfectly fine with me. But, apparently, that's too much to ask of some of us in exchange for our getting our virtual home back. I just don't understand the scorched-earth attitude of "So what if I scuttle the deal? We'll have it back my way, or none of us will have it at all."

As I said before, if the game ever comes back that should be the official return video.

I used a Firefox add-on to download it; then, I took it to a friend's house (he also played CoX), and we watched it on his big-screen TV. It was even more perfect than I already thought it was.

I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to do a nine-hero team, though.
